  1. Ted Danson was in Three Men and a Baby with Tom Selleck.
  2. If it's me, 9 times out of 10 it's the Beach Boys--LOL It was their first appearance in 1964. And they lip-synced to Don't Worry Baby. They were so nervous and so young and so cute. Azure--you're up--
  3. Guess-- Cole Porter's easy to love--- Van Johnson starred in the movie.
  4. Hint: this can be seen on a Dick Clark American Bandstand DVD
  5. Very good, Lawrence-- looks like we could have a whole thread on American movies that have been taken from foreign vehicles. 1) 3 Men and a Baby starred Tom Selleck in the US and André Dussollier in France. Spock aka Leonard Nimoy directed the US version. 2) Thierry Lhermitte starred and produced Un indien dans la ville. 3) Tom Hanks starred in the US version. Pierre Richard who starred in the French original, also starred in the French movies the Toy and Father's Day, both of which were made into American movies. 4) Gérard Depardieu starred in both the French original and the American version of My Father the Hero. Mon père, ce héros -- a title from a Victor Hugo poem. Gérard Laurier directed the original French version. I think Robin Williams and Billy Crystal were in Fathers' Day. This wasn't a big hit but most all the others were. And there you have it - - and they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.LOL LAWRENCE --C'EST A VOUS-- a good job with the French and that means it's all yours--
  6. Sister Rose doesn't look any fatter than any woman that I've seen at Walmart. In fact I've seen plenty who are fatter than her. Whatever she looks like, I don't see that it has anything to do with her commentary of the movies. Full disclosure here-- I'm Catholic and it's not nice to make fun of nuns.
  7. This American rock & roll group's first appearance on Dick Clark's American Bandstand was a bit fuzzy. They lip-synced without their instruments and felt a bit uncomfortable. They decided the next time they did this sort of thing they would bring their instruments. Can you name this all-American group and the song that they sang on their first appearance with Dick Clark?
  8. Officer Muldoon Next: William Frawley or William Demarest?
  9. Colin Serreau, Hervé Palud, Gérard Laurier & Yves Robert-- what do these 4 French film directors have in common?
  10. The director of everybody's favorite comedy in the 1980s. Next to Dustin Hoffman, he was the best actor in the movie. And he had the best line in the movie. Tootsie director, Sydney Pollack
  11. GPF-- correct on all points. Cyd was a trained ballet dancer - and Gene Kelly had been training her to be a jazz dancer. MGM had been grooming her to be a star with a contract for a number of years. Cyd was married to the MGM contract singer Tony Martin. The studio had invested a lot of money in Cyd, and they were very disappointed when she couldn't take this role. She discussed all this in a People magazine article, following the success of the That's Entertainment movies. An American in Paris role for the girl doesn't require tap dancing. The whole point of the movie in the ballet was-- the American tap danced from the American jazz cultural perspective and the French girl danced classical- ballet from French culture. GPF-- you can Shuffle off to Buffalo--your turn, well-done!
  12. I really liked Desi's book - - The public just never gave him the credit that he deserved. He's truly one of the great pioneers of American television. All the time being a fine actor, singer, musician, comedian, and a damn good looking guy!
  13. I've been talking about rock n roll groups so much that I've neglected the solo artist. Elton John is about the greatest solo artist that we have in rock and roll music from 1970 on, as a performer, as a composer, as a Pianist and as a humanitarian. I don't think I can say this about any other artists' cover record of The Beatles, but Elton John's Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, I think, was better than the original. But least we forget, that's John Lennon pushing him to greatness, singing the chorus with him. And in terms of musicianship or piano artistry, have you ever heard a rock and roll artists who can play the piano like Elton John? Well, Jerry Lee was very good and so is Little Richard. Paul McCartney's not bad either-- But Sir Elton John is the tops! Bennie, Bennie, Bennie and the Jets!
  14. Lawrence, this is just a guess-- In high school, my French class did a report from a French magazine about how the Beatles were unhappy with a TV movie, I believe it was the Magical Mystery Tour.??
  15. Fra-- the Culture Club and Wham had something special in their era. And the Last Train to Clarksville is a bloody good number. All I'm saying is when you got groups like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Stones or the Beach Boys-- they're in a completely different League then somebody like The Monkees. In terms of not just the songs they wrote, but also their contribution to rock and roll. If all rock and roll was gone tomorrow and you could only save the output of one group or one song-- Fra, would you pick The Monkees?
  16. Yes, Lawrence-- well done, answering a Hitchcock Art question. Your turn--
  17. Female dancer in major Studio was scheduled to co-star in a major Musical. The married dancer discovers she's pregnant and considers an abortion. She doesn't have the abortion, so the Studio has to find a replacement. The replacement is a debut artist who subsequently becomes a big star. Please identify the two dancers, the major Studio and the major Musical that we mentioned in the question.
  18. Joan danced with Fred Astaire in The Sky's the Limit.
  19. Fred Allen's radio scripts were often written by Nat Hiken.
  20. Mary Next: Marlo Thomas or Elizabeth Montgomery?
  21. This movie director wasn't known for dabbling in the avant-garde, but he most famously used Salvador Dali's art profusely in one of his films. In another film, music played an important role in the plot. In this particular instance it was about one popular song, and one note in a classical orchestrated suite. We need: the director, the two movies, the name of the song, and the composer of the classical suite.
  22. When I was 13 I'd definitely say David McCallum-- By the way, who is David Hemmings? Next: Robert Stack or Raymond Burr?
