Frank Lloyd is not a director that many people remember. I've seen the Howards of Virginia, a nice vehicle for Cary Grant; however, I always look forward to seeing Ronald Colman in if I Were King. Lloyd had a substantial career in silent movies and pre-Code films, so since I haven't seen one of those films, I wouldn't be qualified to give an opinion about this work. Really, the significant association I can recall is mutiny on the bounty. Of course, I've seen that film. Is a most impressive work of art. It was a difficult Film to make. As I recall, two men died making this movie. Lloyd certainly was qualified to have won the Oscar for directing this movie. It was a tremendous boost to Clark Gable's career and Charles Laughton was remembered by the public and critics for this role, years before he played Quasimoto. He won the Oscar for the Divine lady and cavalcade. Another Film of note was Maid of Salem, starring Claudette Colbert.

Why is it when people want to criticize they always pick women? Two of the most mundane actors I've ever seen in Hollywood were- - Paul Newman and John Wayne. But I will at least say this for John Wayne - - he had charisma. And Paul Newman makes a good pizza.

Shutoo - - I want you to do one more thing for me. Close your eyes and imagine you're at Rick's Café Américain in Casablanca. Sam aka Dooley Wilson is getting ready to sing a song. You guessed it-- "It had to be you". Even with as time goes by, they still had to put in-- "It had to be you". What a song! Shutoo--very well done! It's all yours--

Thanx, Azure-- This enduring song has always been a favorite of mine. The first time I heard it, Betty Hutton was singing it in a movie. Ginger Rogers also sang it in a movie and Gene Kelly has danced to it in another movie. And of course, Woody Allen, that purveyor of American popular music, had the song sung in one of his most popular movies. When you identify this song, please give the names of the composer(s) and/or lyricist(s), the names of the movies listed above and of course, any others that you might know of. FYI--there are quite a few others.

I'm a big fan of classical music - - this is from Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony. Jeanette looks like Russian nobility, so they called it Czaritza-- very very classy and classical! Full disclosure - - Maytime is my favorite Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy musical movie.
