  9. I am truly shocked that nobody remembers the famous song bird of the south, Aka First Lady of the radio, Miss Kate Smith. Her theme song was when the moon comes over the mountain. But she will be forever associated with Irving Berlin's God Bless America. President Franklin Roosevelt introduced her to the king of England as --this is Kate Smith. Miss Smith is America. She garnered certified gold records for million sellers before there was a billboard magazine. She was a big radio star with a number of programs. Abbott and Costello were the comics on her radio show from 1937 to 1945 the Kate Smith hour. Miss Smith starred in the kate smith hour on n_b_c television from 1952 -1954, daily on an afternoon show. In 1960 she hosted a prime-time CBS television show the Kate Smith show. Kate Smith first sang God Bless America on Armistice Day in 1938. The composer, Irving Berlin and the singer, Kate Smith never took any royalties. The 10 million dollars in royalties was given to the Boys and Girls Scouts of America. This category is retro and Kate Smith is definitely retro. I know all about this afternoon show because I used to watch it in the afternoon. And sing along with her.
