Keep Calm & Carry On--The British Are Coming!
Princess of Tap replied to cujas's topic in Games and Trivia
That is a good answer but I don't think he ever appeared with Katharine Hepburn on stage. -
8) the Bogarts named their daughter Leslie because Leslie Howard was responsible for Humphrey Bogart getting the part of Duke Mantee in the Petrified Forest in the Warner Brothers movie. This launched Bogart's career at Warner Brothers and eventual stardom.
-
Miles, Astaire was pretending to be drunk or something when he was doing that dance. Miles, are you going to be on the threads at a quarter to three? Miles' turn--
-
Marsha, there were six movies in The Thin Man series. Undoubtedly there were a lot of actors in these movies. It's a given that these people are in those movies but they all have something in common within the context of those movies. You answered half of the question - - Revisit each of the movies that you listed and the characters connection in the plot. - -
-
Miles, did the hint give it away? Miles, take it away - -
-
Looks like Joe Sawyer
-
Hint-- she hated Bette DAVIS

This song is so associated with Frank Sinatra that most people think it was written for him. In fact, Sinatra sings this song in one of his movies. When actually the song was written for Fred Astaire. All the great American composers wanted to write for Fred Astaire. And most of them did. This particular song was written by a Duo that had a tremendous track record. And they had a lot of success working with others. So can you name, the composer and lyricist, the Astaire movie where it was introduced, and the Sinatra movie where he claims it for himself?

And the question is still on-- You can check the question out below but in summary it is - - another james whale favorite Renown stage actor in England and from the English aristocracy Appeared on Broadway with Katharine Hepburn -
Star, I never had any doubt that you knew all about the Meglin Kiddies. I've only seen the shorts a couple of times, but they are so gorgeous, so cute. She always had it. Star, come and give us another one - -

Nicholas joy is not the answer to my question. However if you can prove that he fits the criteria that I gave forward then you can have question. So I would ask you to name the films that he was in with James Whale as director. And some information about his aristocratic background will also be useful here, as well as his place on the English stage. So far the only part you've answered is that he was on Broadway with Katharine Hepburn. So, Marsha has first dibs on this one-- -
I can share this with somebody - - - the female would Carole Lombard. But it could be any man????
-
Star, I think we should form the Judy Garland fan club right now. All things Judy - - Now we're going to go beyond the young Judy to the little girl Judy. Just like me and millions of other little girls, Judy Garland went to dance school and learned to tap dance. She was so good that she went on with other members of the school into Hollywood shorts. Can you name the school and the short that first presented Judy to the world.
-
Miles, sorry about that. I was running to the gym but when I saw Astaire there I just had to answer the question so I was in quite a hurry. What about another question - - about Fred Astaire? Fred Astaire said that he got the idea for the top hat number during a Broadway show, starring himself and sister. He was good in the number. But unfortunately the show was not a success. But when he took the number to Hollywood, the number and the show was a big success. It was called Top Hat. We're going to need the name of the number and the name of the show --that's all folks--

Terrence although I do believe that Carol Landis did appear on Broadway-- The person I'm talking about was co-starring in the top wartime Broadway show. And did stop the show every night, according to Walter Winchell.
-
The Get Happy number that Judy performed in Summer Stock is reminiscent of --that is similar to -- another number in terms of the costume and the style of dance. The number I'm talking about was actually filmed, but it was cut from the final footage of one of her movies. We need the name of the film, the number, and the composer.
-
Hint-- its an MGM question
-
And that's that she was blonde and above average tall.
-
Well you know more about young Judy than I do. I'm more with the Carnegie Hall Judy. But I got your answer. now it's the Broadway melody of 1938. Where she tap dances with buddy Ebsen okay? (YOURS & MINE)

Let's stay with the 1950's TV because, I'm comfortable there. According to my mother, I did sing everyday with a singer who was on television every day. The singer had been a big hit on radio and continued in television for quite a while. Singer also appeared in motion pictures. Singer had many hit Recordings. Hint-- Miles,it's not Eddie Fisher.
-
That was very good Star, especially the Gus Kahn Part. But I'm not surprised you know this song because, after all,Judy named her first child after this song. Now for a Star turn - -
-
4) the role that the critics and Leslie Howard fans most closely associate the actor with is the fop, Sir Percy Blakeney aka The Scarlet Pimpernel.1934 They seek him here, they seek him there, they seek him everywhere.

This actor was another favorite of director James Whale. A renowned English stage actor, he was born into the aristocracy. He appeared on the London stage and on Broadway with Katharine Hepburn. The movies he made with Whale are fan favorites but he also appeared in other films during his long career. Any takers on this one? -
Star - - I don't know the answer either. But if everybody's guessing, I hAve a guess too-- The finale of presenting Lily Mars with Judy dancing with Chuck Walters?.
-
I believe the Walking Dead best describes the movie that I was talking about. It's all yours Lav--
