Lav, good question. Jack Carson and Lola Albright-- Jack was in "A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" with Elizabeth Taylor and in "Arsenic and Old Lace" with Cary Grant. Lola was in "The Tender Trap" with Frank Sinatra. And she was Edie Hart, the memorable girlfriend of Peter Gunn. Lola was a nightclub singer in the TV series and actually was a recording artist in her own right.

Well, Miles, you caught me with my tap shoes unbuckled. I'd forgotten this one because it was not written for a movie. But it's used in movies, and a lot of documentaries about movies. That's got to be a one in a million song. "You Oughta Be In Pictures"--music by Dana Suesse and lyrics by Edward Heyman It was a hit for Rudy Vallee in 1934. Miles, a terrific choice--It's the kind of song that should have been in a 42nd street musical sung by Ginger Rogers.

Sad to say she became a trump supporter later in life. But you would have to say that was in line with her geographical-social background and her lack of education. I thought it was odd for a person who claimed to be concerned about women's issues as well as someone who didn't appear to be actively racist. I can remember working in a corporate position and being the United Way coordinator the year she was the national spokesperson for the campaign. So she didn't seem to be a hateful person, but when a person enables a racist and a misogynist, it can't help but make you wonder.

Peggy Ryan was in "Miss Annie Rooney" with June Lockhart.

His wife Lita Baron said she divorced him because he had dozens of mistresses. Maybe that's why he aged so fast. ☺️

I really don't know how daring it was. I never knew of a Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway smash hit that wasn't a success in a Hollywood adaptation. They kept it up until "The Sound of Music," went through the roof. And as I can recall, there were quite a few people of Asian descent in "The King and I". And that certainly was a big hit too.

I think Jack Soo was the best thing in it too. And all these actors were not Chinese Americans at all. Jack, James Shigeta, Reiko Sato and Miyoshi Umeki were of Japanese descent. Jack, James and Reiko were Americans and Miyoshi was born in Japan. I believe she was the first Japanese performer to win an Oscar. She won for Best Supporting Actress in "Sayonara". Pat Suzuki, a Japanese American performer, played the Linda Low starring role on Broadway. She obviously did all of her singing, dancing and acting. The singing part was dubbed for Nancy Kwan. What I love about this musical is that it is a dancing musical. Gene Kelly was the original Broadway director with his MGM dance assistant Carol Haney being the original Broadway choreographer. Fred Astaire's choreographer, Hermes Pan, took over that chore for the movie.

Whatever, if you're interested in that culture and that Cinema you still ought to do a thread about it.

By the time of my generation we didn't know who Max Baer was. I'd heard of Joe Louis, "The Brown Bomber", but Max Baer was only the father of Jethro Bodine for me. Max Baer Jr became one of the biggest sitcom icons of my generation--Co starring in the top rated sitcom "The Beverly Hillbillies" for years. His father Max Baer was heavyweight champion for only one year, but parleyed that title into somewhat of a film career. He appeared in "The Prizefighter and The Lady", co-starring with Myrna Loy and even was in Humphrey Bogart's last film, "The Harder They Fall". Max Jr had a hard time getting away from the typecasting of Jethro, so he had to buy his own properties and produce in order to work. He wrote produced and starred in " Macon County Line" and also produced the movie "Ode to Billy Joe". I don't think it has ever really been appreciated enough about how great his comedic performance was in "The Beverly Hillbillies" and how much talent he had.
