In the 1930's there was a Broadway show called "I'd Rather Be Right" with music by Rodgers and Hart. In the show Franklin D. Roosevelt is a character and he sings a song called "Off The Record". In the 1942 movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy", James Cagney appears as the FDR character singing the song and dancing too. Here it is:
Larry Hart did it again with this number. A good example of how a great lyricist can be entertaining, up to date with current events and patriotic all at the same time. And this no doubt was one of the numbers that helped James Cagney win that Academy Award for "Yankee Doodle Dandy".
