I should have gotten this the first time around. Steve Martin and his cello discovered Asa Yoelson and the rest is showbiz history. William Demarest played Steve Martin in "The Jolson Story" and in "Jolson Sings Again", as Jolie's mentor in showbiz. Jolie was Scotty Beckett and then he morphed into Larry Parks. Of course, William Demarest was also the "beloved" Uncle Charlie on "My Three Sons". *(Miles--"The Husband and Wife" thread still beckons.)

John Barrymore was in "The Great Profile" with Mary Beth Hughes.

"High Hopes" It was sung by Frank Sinatra in "A Hole in the Head" and was written by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen. Frank was assisted in the song by Jimmy Hodges, who played his son in the movie. And the song was re-tooled by the lyricist, Sammy Cahn, as JFK's campaign song in his 1960 presidential election. Oh, and I forgot to say it also won the 1959 Oscar for best original song.
