  1. The man who did the orchestration for this movie was my father's music writing partner, Eliot Kaplan. It was his final credit, I believe, before he died when I was in grade 10. Sadly, I never met him.
  2. Now that would have been a superhero franchise I would watch! Seriously, though, you ask me to name a Batman actor, and I will say ADAM WEST. First, last, and always.
  3. I have to be in the right mood to watch it, Dargo. Let me assure that I am indeed a big fan of Billy Wilder, and his list of favourites of mine compared to films I don't like rivals my love of Hitchcock movies. I can count on one hand the number of films of these directors that were a one time only for me. I find it poignant and beautiful. I cringe at places. I think of how awful Fred's character is and how badly he treated Shirley and no one else gave a DAMN about whether or not she is dead at that office until Jack finds her in his apartment. Maybe I analyse it too much as I majored in psychology in university. When I analyse a movie, I am not enjoying it as much as admiring how well a movie is made. I hate Fred in this. I love him in Double Indemnity. I don't like seeing him with NO morality at all. My favourite scenes in the film are the ones in the apartment where Shirley and Jack are alone. As long as the two of them are together, she's safe. It's too painful a movie for me to say it is my favourite Wilder. My favourites of Wilder is Sunset Boulevard. I love these Billy Wilder comedies- top 3: The Odd Couple The Fortune Cookie Some Like It Hot (for the music)
  4. Knowing Dargo's love of satire, I think he knows....
  5. Wow. I hope this wasn't Gregory Peck in Designing Woman...but was it?
  6. Wonderful story about your grandfather and Howe, Lawrence. And you are so right about when you see films. I have a tendency to watch movies that got an artist an Academy Award before that artist dies or when a tribute airs for a recently died artist. Sometimes I have gotten burned by that because I was way too young to see a movie that was meant to be understood by adults. I should never have seen Zorba the Greek when in my 20s. That traumatized me in a way that I was not when I recently saw Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe because I was nearly 40. I'm not sure I would ever have seen a single Hitchcock movie if not for Burr. All I knew of Hitchcock before this was the famous gory scenes in The Birds and Psycho. I could not imagine watching them. I have seen early all his films now.
  7. Bogart wanted Bacall to get the part of Sabrina. Meanwhile, Holden was smitten with Hepburn.
  8. Is it NORTH BY NORTH WEST?
  9. RAPTER ROMANCE.... Sounds like a western
  10. Okay, so just so everyone knows: I GOT NUMBER 1 INCORRECT..
  11. So WEST is correct for number 5, All the actors except for Ball (that I can think of) made Westerns that are famous titles. All the pictures are on the West Coast, though. Hmmm.
  12. You said that 9 was listed as Capricorn One? I thought it was Under Capricorn and someone had already guessed correctly.
  13. Re: The Apartment: I admire this film more than I enjoy it. It is a great film. It's not even remotely close to my favourite Billy Wilder film. I love the TCM featurette that MacMurray's daughter made that aired when he was Star of the Month. She mentioned that he was approached by a woman while he was with his family at Disneyland. The woman asked if he was Fred MacMurray. He said yes. She told him she had taken her children to see the movie and hit him in the head with her purse.
  14. Yes, I do, thanks MissWonderly. I do use that and the Pacific time zone. The American schedules are always up earlier than the Canadian schedules.
  15. The Paradine Case is correct, despite Greg's non-British accent. Azure, you were first so it's your thread.
  16. "narrow range of acting.." Yes, well, I always did prefer his westerns, Lawrence. I usually try to avoid dissing acting abilities (ha!), but I often saw Cooper as movie Star first, actor second. The same could likely be said about Clark Gable - probably was - and yet he is my favourite actor born the same day I was, 75 years apart. These two giants died about 1 month apart. And yes, that would have been an interesting comment if you had written it. Of course, you didn't.
  17. Thanks, Azure. Next movie: British barrister falls for his client.
  18. Princess: I did not see It's a Wonderful Life until only a few years ago. Same thing with Casablanca. No reason, just worked out that way. It did not start watching Hitchcock movies until I was 19 after Raymond Burr, my favourite Canadian actor died. I saw Rear Window because he was in it and then I became a fan of the director. My favourite Capra films are as follows: No order, just as they come to mind: this changes over time, except the first: You Can't Take it With You Ball of Fire Mr. Smith Goes to Washington It's a Wonderful Life I just never bought Cooper as being the James Stewart hokey film type like - I could not see Cooper as Elwood Dowd in Harvey
