  1. I've noticed that so far, I seem to be the only person listing anyone from Splendor. It did air last year on TCM as part of the TCM SOTM look at David Niven who is a great example of someone who rose from bit parts to become a big star instead of the other way around. Has anyone else seen Splendor? What do any of you think of it?
  2. I can see that, Lorna. I love Frederic March. If you are looking in terms of the entire movie, then yes I prefer the March movie. But we were talking about actors in the duel roles, and I prefer the Tracy makeup. I'm guessing here and I am basing this on my knowledge of the actors here, but if I were able to get past the special effects of Barrymore's transformation which include a huge spider across the screen - I have mentioned my inability to get through any version of Dracula because of the insects - That I would prefer the interpretation of John Barrymore. Barrymore was excellent before he became ill with alcoholism. But I do own the DVD and it is waiting for me.
  3. I did not think that ANYONE was still alive by the time this movie was made who actually knew him well.
  4. Yes, I call it a short story too. But it was part of a list of books/novellas for us. I had grand illusions of being able to write a paper on Wuthering Heights, freaked out, and chose this short story instead. I enjoyed the story more than I enjoy most film adaptations. In reading it, you can see why it has been adapted so many times. As far as adaptations are concerned, I have the John Barrymore DVD, but have not yet seen it. The makeup for me is too much for March, but I see why he won. Tracy is my favourite of the ones I've seen. I love the animated Film. I've never seen a foreign language version. And I was wondering if someone would mention Lewis today.
  5. Wow, but you come up with difficult clues, Lav. By the way - is Azure correct in the Describe the Scene thread? MY ANSWER; My answer is likely incorrect here but I'll try: LEONARDO DICAPRIO AS HOWARD HUGHES IN THE AVIATOR? As far as the actress us concerned, I am not sure who was still alive? Was Kate Hepburn still alive?
  6. By the way, the first part of my last post was directed to limey, and the second was to Dargo. And for people who have not seen that Twilight Zone episode or forgotten the original meaning of the term: A gremlin is not a horror film character in the original use. A gremlin was a term used by people who have been in combat who see people/monsters who are not actually there.
  7. Yes, that is how a lot of people found out that it was NOT Phil Silvers. Including myself. To me, regarding Raymond Burr, he does not remotely to me look like a Gremlin. But hey, if you were WATCHING BILL LATE AT NIGHT, WELL, MAYBE YOU STARTED TO SEE THINGS........
  8. This is war movie. I had to edit it because I had an A instead of an E in the second word.
  9. 1) George Brent was born today, March 15th, in the year 1904.
  10. Hulk Hogan Next: Harry Houndini or David Copperfield
  11. 6) Goldfinger stars Sean Connery, considered by many to be the best Bond. He was not the first Bond, though. The first Bond was Barry Nelson in a TV movie version of Casino Royale.
  12. 4) The composer is John Barry who would be closely identified with the Bond franchise.
  13. Gregory Hines seems like he would be less intimidating with his great dancing. Next: Don Rickles or Donald Sutherland
  14. 10) Merle Oberon was not the actress Olivier wanted to play Cathy. He wanted his girlfriend Leigh. But Oberon was already signed. To avoid clashes, Leigh was offered a different role and turned it down. And so we have a great Wuthering Heights. Next: George Brent
  15. Yes, Lorna; I read the original story by R.L.S. in grade nine and wrote a book report on it. It was one of a long list of suggested books. We had to pick one book per term. This was one of mine. The other two were The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Catcher in the Rye.
  16. 2) This movie was the first film that future James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan saw when he moved to London.
  17. Alice Adams - Katherine Hepburn in 1935
  18. Not that I don't like to work my brain anyway In the Games and trivia thread anyway, but when spam is here I find myself hiding in that forum and trying to answer trivia questions in genres that I know I don't know anything about them.
  19. 10) This movie seems to a rare film and it would be great if it were to air on TCM. Next: GOLDFINGER
