Your Favourite Performances from 1929 to present are...
GregoryPeckfan replied to Bogie56's topic in Your Favorites
Thanks for the recommendation. Due to lack of access, I have seen few Mary Pickford movies myself. I am much more familiar with her second (?) husband Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. His movies are easier to find. -
ARTHUR -title character portrayed by Dudley Moore.

I have not seen this movie yet either. I've been avoiding it. I'm fine with weepy movies if it is during the daytime and not before I try to sleep. I cannot watch anything sentimental with anyone in it who is old enough to die of old age, however, regardless of the time of day. -

I knew someone would come up with the title for me. Yes, Night Flight. I have a hard time watching John's later movies after he became ill. It is hard to watch a talent wasted like his. I saw the biopic based upon Diana Barrymore where John was portrayed by Errol Flynn, another talent who died young. When John Barrymore was healthy, his movies were excellent. That's why I wish the night of his films in April didn't focus so much on the Buldog Drummand series so much. I'd like them to focus on the early 30s and some silent films for him. ................................................................................................................................................................................................... As for L.B.M. I have to take him with a grain of salt. After all, he was the one who along with her mother allowed Judy Garland to have 5 doctors to keep her working, none of whom apparently knew about the others. -

Yes, we Canadians do not necessarily like all Canadian performers. I love Mary Pickford myself, but there are few current day Canadian singers I cannot stand..... -

I've seen COQUETTE, yes. It is certainly an oddity. I love Pickford, but I agree the romantic lead was a weird choice of casting. I found him boring. She had much more success with movies opposite other leading me like Clark Gable and Robert Montgomery. -

Well, if you don't like weepie movies, beware of Kay Francis movies..... -
He always wanted a pool William Holden narration in Sunset Boulevard

Hello everyone. ClassicMovieRankings hasn't been TCM forums in a few days, but I wanted to let people know who are fans of Lillian Gish that he completed her page: http://www.ultimatemovierankings.com/lillian-gish-movies/comment-page-1/#comment-17319 It is his quest to do all 50 AFI legends. He now has only Mary Pickford and Buster Keaton to complete this 5 year goal. He would love to publish a book on all 50 of them depending upon costs. My favourite Lillian Gish movie is The Night of the Hunter. I've seen some movies from her early career, and some of her television appearances. Lillian Gish lovers will enjoy this page.

I need a new DVD player. The colour on mine is starting to bleed. I thought that it might have to do with the age of the DVDs themselves, but even a brand new one did that.

I saw Helen Hayes in an Airport movie, and I've seen her in an Agatha Christie, ad in a flying ace movie with both Lionel and John Barrymore and where she played the wife of Clark Gable in an early performance of his. But so far for me she is a famous name whose greatest performances I have never seen. -

As a person with both Canadian and American background, I quite often use the letter U. Sometimes I spell favourite and favorite in the same post as I did in my new thread on Hollywood siblings in the Favourite section

Oh, I didn't mean I didn't like politically themed movies. And some of my favourite movies are not about pleasant topics. I read To Kill A Mockingbird and cried. Then I watched the movie in class expecting to hate it and couldn't help but enjoy Peck's performance. But I do tend to watch movies that are not set in today's times where I do not know how something is going to end and that focus on current events makes it hard to watch something as watching a movie for enjoyment. By fantasy world of an era before I was born, I mean I like to pretend that all the studio system era favourites of mine are still alive, that they are friends of mine. I have watched these favourites of mine do often that I am devastated when they die, almost as if they were family members of mine, even though they aren't.

Favorite Siblings and Their Movies

I've seen a lot more of Jeff's films than Beau's films. I love this family. I'm a big fan of their father. My favourite movie of both of theirs is The Fabulous Baker Boys. -

I have always preferred Jane Fonda films over Peter Fonda films-likely the types of movies they made. I enjoy all the Carradines. I'm much more familiar with Stacy Keach than James Keach. Thanks for your choices. -
Yes, Canada does not have the same price for many things. $27 is too high a price for me per movie. Most of the DVDs I own I bought before TCM became available to us in Canada.

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread and given me suggestions on how to maneuver my way through this website. I appreciate the input and again apologize if my original post went on and on. Cheers everyone and I look forward to the people who leave the site until March returning as I've not gotten to know any of them. Have a creative day everyone. Be kind to yourself.

Love the threads on photographs. love them. I have written a lot of poetry myself. A thread about what someone has eaten that day? I am glad I started this thread.

There are some beautiful photographs in a few of threads in the off-topic section started by Jake Holman that I want to follow. I've responded to the so that I do get updates when Jake posts new photographs. I'd hate to miss them. Maybe I could look at the New Content section through a filter of just items I have participated in and then otherwise check out individual forums for new threads. Again, I joined at the end of January, just so people know how new here I am.

From now on, cats and dogs will be at the TCM controls overnight while people are asleep these animals will press buttons and snap -all the movies being recorded by PVR will stop in the middle only to be replaced by the second half of completely separate movies.

"mark all forums as read...." So that is what that option means. Thanks for that information. There are many sites that do not have an off-topic section. I do appreciate that this site does. Less than a month on this site, I'm still a newbie in my mind - for all that it says Advanced Member

There are a lot of Hollywood families in the movie industry. Usually when the relationships are parent and child, they have the same surname. Siblings quite often don't, especially during the studio system era when you were given new names. What siblings do you admire their work. Are you familiar with all members of a family, or do you prefer one over the other? What are your favourite films of theirs? I am a fan of both Joan Fontaine and Olivia DeHaviland I love all Barrymore siblings with a preference for lionel I am a fan of both James Arness and Peter Graves I am more of a fan of Dana Andrews than Steve Forrest.
