Why did Chaplin refuse his award? Was that the time he was banned from the US?
It was for political reasons. Hitler considered Chaplin to be his favourite actor. Chaplain changed the ending of the movie to include a speech. He refused to accept an award for lampooning Hitler. As time went on he got more and more upset about the Nazis and was sorry the original ending had ever ben made.

Mickey Rooney in Thoroughbreds Don't Cry which I could not complete because he irritated me
Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's as well as the person who had the bright idea to cast him as a Japanese

Your screen name reminds me that I'd like to pitchfork Nick Charles. Except for certain films, such as LOVE CRAZY and LIFE WITH FATHER, I'm not a fan of William Powell.
Interesting example you give. I love Powell, and yet one of the few movies I don't like is the example you give - Life with Father.

Lol. That sounds like me. Except sub in "stupider" for "something I've seen 5,000 times." Right now for example, I could be watching one of the 300-something films on my DVR... but instead I'm watching Breakfast at Tiffany's which I've seen a billion times. I just get in the mood to watch a specific film and I have to watch it.
I watch Breakfast at Tiffany's all the time too.
What was I watching tonight instead of going through my PVR recordings but Columbo as it aired on MeTv.

I just saw Kitty Foyle. It was a very enjoyable film. Both Ginger Rogers and Dennis Morgan gave excellent performances. I've been rather indifferent to Rogers, now I may seek her out more. She was really rocking the brunette hair too. I still pick Davis as Best Actress for "The Letter," but Rogers comes in a close #2 now.
Rogers is wonderful in Kitty Foyle. I first knew Ginger as Astaire's partner only, but then I started seeing her in a variety of films, not all musicals or comedies. I've seen a lot of movies that Rogers has been in that originally I would not have thought that she would be in.

I would like to add Kathy Bates the Academy Award winner for MISERY 1990. She has always given great performances as leads or character roles. Kathy is her own woman, and she proved that not every actress has to be a size five. I just saw her in Melissa McCarthy`s new movie THE BOSS 2016. Sunday Morning on CBS had a nice interview on today with Kathy today. She discussed her problem with swelling lymph nodes in her arms. The conditions is treatable, and Kathy is a trooper.
I love Misery. It was fantastic. I have ben meaning to re-watch that movie. And I agree about Bates. Back in the studio system era, there were a lot of sized women. Some were small like Bacall or Hepburn (either one). But then you had Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell. If you were a non-dancer - and here of course it is an important point as Judy was not allowed to be her normal size - it did not matter *as much* what size you were.

Yea, Audrey is one of my favorites too. Just recently I acquired a British film from the early 50's in which
she played a charming cigarette girl. MY favorite performance(s) are Charade and Roman Holiday.
I love Charade and Roman Holiday. She and Gregory Peck made a great couple. She was just starting out in films and Greg saw the rushes and realized how great she was and that she might steal the film from him and Eddie. So he insisted that Audrey be listed *above" the title in the credits. Sure enough, she got attention from the Oscars.
I watch Charade at least once a month. It is my favourite non-Gregory Peck film since he made his movie debut. (I word my statement that way because I love Gone with the Wind and that was before Peck, for example).
Charade is my favourite film of most of the people in that film:
Grant
Hepburn
Coburn
Kennedy
Matthau
Glass
The funeral scene is the funniest scene in movies as far as I am concerned. My favourite part is where Coburn holds a mirror to 'Charlie's' face to see if he is breathing.

I'm watching Columbo on Metv. The episode is the one where child star Jackie Cooper guest stars as the killer.

Sorry I forgot to watch OR record it as I got home late last night. I'll try to catch the other segments of the docu..

Do you have PVR, Hibi? I can often set mine up to record up to 2 weeks in advance if I have enough space. I have to keep deleting movies and programs to accomplish it. I try to keep mine at no higher than 75% recorded.

GPF. I remember seeing a tv version of that tale. It might have been on PBS, not sure.
I do remember it starred a really cute guy, who used to be on that show with Kirstie Alley I think. Let me find his name on IMDB.
Update: It starred Dan Cortese who was in "Veronica's Closet" and it was a tv movie from 1996:
The Lottery

Jason, who came to the city with his father at a young age, remembers little ...See full summary »Director: Daniel SackheimThanks for checking this up for me, CaveGirl. I have read The lottery and thought it would make a great screenplay.
I will keep it in mind.

Jakeem - thanks for these pictures and the quotes from Field of Dreams.
My favourite one-liner from Field of Dreams:

Monday, April 18
The day schedule looks like a cut and paste job from not long ago.
Ethel Barrymore night.
8 p.m. None But the Lonely Heart (1944) has to be one of Ethel’s best.
10 p.m. The Spiral Staircase (1945) In Canada and the U.S. TCM Canada is not regional by the way.
Thanks for the confirmation. I did not think TCM Canada was regional, but I remember that Shaw TV likes to make its sports channels regional. I used to have Shaw. You never know..
The second time viewing I'll look out for things I did not see the first time around.

Yes, Gail Patrick and legally dead. Funny how she ended up being the producer of Perry Mason on television.
Edit note: of course I know that the band The Doors didn't exist in 1940. Just being silly.

According to my provider, tomorrow night Canada - at least so says Optic TV listings on my screen - is still set to see The Spiral Staircase after all.
Bogie56 or Barton Keyes - what are you set to get in Ontario? Are you getting The Spiral Staircase or another film?
I have seen The Spiral Staircase on youtube, but if I could see it on a bigger screen that would be great.

Re: Raymond Massey as Abe Lincoln - that President is Massey's most enduring role and yet he was from Canada.
He also played a famous American in A Matter of Life and Death.

Well done, LawrenceA.
♣ Aces ♣
It's your turn to post a question, Lawrence.

I would rather act in a Hitchcock movie as he is my favourite director.
Would you rather learn to tap dance or to do trapeze acts?
