  1. Thanks for all these images, Jake. They are wonderful. Take care. Flora
  2. I would rather hear Ella sing, because she dis some great ad libbing. Would you like to sing a solo in front of a live audience and gets lots of fame, or would you like to sing in a choir with lots of people who only perform for rest homes?
  3. Virginia Field. I think Sally is an overrated actress. Next: Mark Twain or Harper lee
  4. Ice Follies of 1939 is absolutely horrible. I watched it for the stars and just barely got through it. Zeigfeld it aint....
  5. 3) He decided on the surname of Caine as his professional name while he was watching The Caine Mutiny
  6. I would rather study with Bette Davis as she is a favourite. Next: Would you rather write a play with Shakespeare or Beckett?
  7. I've always wondered why they could not do that, at least for TCM Canada. Even if it only aired here in Canada TCM could havestill done it. We often have a different evening anyway.
  8. Re:Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe on The Misfits set. For sure, he should not have been doing his own stunts. Apparently, he never spoke about her to Kay as he often kept things private in general. But it is well known that Miller had written the script for Monroe and that as their marriage fell apart, Miller would rewrite the script and make her part smaller and send script changes to everyone and that Gable refused to allow it. He would not be a third party to that circus and stated that the script was to remain as is or he would leave the film. In retrospect, he should have.
  9. I routinely have delete things before I watch them, usually trying to make sure they are movies I have seen before. I refuse to delete The Seven Samerai before I see it at least once. I recorded most of the films on Greg's birthday even though I have seen them before. And hey - speaking of Errol, I still have some of his films recorded I have yet to see. I am a big fan of the sisters Joan and Olivia.
  10. What did you think of her in Reflections in a Golden Eye where she maims herself?
  11. No, he didn't. I'm not sure why. He enjoyed watching films like The Naked Gun series with me, but then that was an all-out farce. Friends was too realistic, maybe? Also, I look a bit like Jennifer did when she was younger, so perhaps that is what made him unable to watch the show with me.
  12. I understand that Lou Gossett Jr's night has been recorded and scheduled. According to TopBilled, Cabin in the Sky is replaced with Night of the Hunter.
  13. Monroe was a big star. She was fired from a movie she was supposed to make with Dean Martin that was later made after she died with a completely separate cast. Lee Marvin 's drinking was totally out of control sometimes, but he was such a good actor and box office draw that people put up with it. It did shorten his lifespan. I love the fact that in the last 5 years of his life he was married to his first love and had gone to her place and insisted that she was going back home with him. I guess it is the romantic in me as someone who never married wanting there to be real life examples of people who end up with their first loves after a long break in time.
  14. You watched the second film with your parents? I've seen a lot of films of all genres with my Mom, but I couldn't even watch episodes of Friends with my father for reasons I won't go into.........................................
  15. Marilyn Monroe required a lot of takes too. Depending upon the co-star, they either put up with it without saying anything, or they made a big hassle about it. Others loved her regardless like George Chakiris when they made Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
  16. Glad to see that Lou Gossett Jr.'s night has an official date.
  17. I think he had it in for her because he wanted Lauren Bacall to play the role.
  18. I've not read the book. I wonder if my fascination with this film is tied up in the Julie Harris aspect of the film completely. She played another character who really freaked me out in Reflections of a Golden Eye.
  19. I understand completely, MissWonderly. I have seen the movie several times because I am a fan of the cast. My ability to watch such films about nuclear war become less and less as time goes by. They are no longer "satire" even when they are Dr. Strangelove because the reality of this happening is real. When I do watch such movies, I have seen them because I am a fan of the cast, director etc. Even then, they are not the first movie I go to when I say to myself "I'm going to watch a (artist's name) movie." That is why when I talk about On the Beach I spend a lot of time talking about Fred Astaire and that I would hope that Fred Astaire fans do see this movie as he does not sing or dance and is very effective in his cynical role. It's not that I don't love Gregory Peck in this film, but there are other Gregory Peck films to see. Another type of film I have a hard time with is pet animals dying. Gregory Peck made a very famous one of those; The Yearling. It's beautiful and heartbreaking and you can believe it that I got through the film because I have a goal of seeing everything Gregory Peck ever did at least once. I have not seen it again since several years before he died, and even that was a long time ago now.
