  1. "Lust In The Dust" (1985)--Divine, Tab Hunter and Lainie Kazan in a funny spoof of Western cliches.  It's not perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than the critics said.  Fast moving, campy, and funny.  Has TCM ever shown this?

Lust in the Dust is an actual other movie than Duel in the Sun? Lust in the Dust was the unofficial nickname for the Peck western because it was so bad.

Okay, so that makes your boxed set even more ironic..

  2. They were friends, but Wayne hated, I mean absolutely despised, High Noon, and would grumble about it to Cooper for the rest of Coop's life.

It always confused me why Wayne agreed to accept Cooper's Oscar for Best Actor that year.  Wayne thought the film Un-American.

  3. While it's widely regarded as the greatest movie year of all time, 1939 falls short when it comes to my purposes in this thread. Everyone has made very interesting choices, but unfortunately I have seen 90% of them already. Out of those few that I haven't, I have a few taped already to watch, which only leaves 2 or 3 to look for, such as The Light That Failed. And that one was already on my radar from the Top Ten Films thread. The only one so far that I haven't seen or haven't heard of is Sweepstakes Winner submitted by Kay. So extra kudos to Kay!

True.  I have not seen as high a percentage of movies from this year as you have by a long shot, and most of the films I have not seen I had heard of before.  However, this is not true of the many foreign films listed.

Kay does indeed list ones I've not seen all of them.  Even if I did not like Pigskin Parade, I want to see everything Judy Garland made, so yes indeed: Kudos to Kay!

  4. Just mentioned Three Days of the Condor is one of my favourite political movies of all time.  It is based on a book called SIX Days of the Condor, but it was shortened because it was felt that this was too nail-biting a length for the public.

  5. The histories are the only ones that I like.

Yes, well, it depends upon one's tastes.  My ability to enjoy a Shakespeare movie really is on a film by film basis.  Some I love and some I like and others I tolerate.

When I was in university I took Shakespeare as what I  thought would eventually be a major in English  but I becme burnt out and switched English to my minor and switched my minor of Psychology to a Major.

That particular semester the professor decided that she would give us all the rarely read plays that year.  I was so happy that I had read Hamlet in Advanced Placement English in grade 12 because it was too famous to be read that semester.

People who wanted to read Hamlet were disappointed.

I wrote a paper on Richard III, a play that I did nor really understand because it was one of the options of a list of topics for us.  We had not yet read gone over it in class and I did NOT want to write about Titus Andronicus.

Bad move as I barely got 50 percent.  This from a person who went to university entirely based upon scholarships, hence my switch of subjects.

  6. My college Shakespeare professor said that the Olivier HAMLET was recommendable only to those interested in castle architecture.

    Really?

I love that movie.  It has some great performances in it and is one of my favourite versions of the p[lay.

I have heard most people say that any of Shakespeare's histories are long and boring and just look at the scenery.

  7. Here's all you need to play:

    Your Brain

    A Computer

Three Movie Titles [with corresponding plotlines]

    I'll start:

    Lust in the Dust

    Duel in the Sun

    A River Runs Through It

    Next?

Great, only Lust in the Dust and Duel in the Sun are the same movie.

  8. I just meant that the internet makes it a lot easier to

answer trivia questions, especially if one clue is given.

I had never heard of Pattie Brooks, but it's very easy

to google around and find the correct answer.

Only if the weather has not knocked out your internet service.  I haven't heard of her either.  I know most people who have taken part in the Canadiana thread use Wikipedia to find out who is and who is not Canadian.  It has lain dormant since I gave up on my last answer since I am too busy to keep checking it every day.

WINNER: Hattie McDaniel for GONE WITH THE WIND:

Billie Burke in The Wizard of Oz

    Marjorie Main in The Women

    Virginia Grey in the Women

Virginia Grey in Another Thin Man

Ruth Hussey in Another Thin Man

    Flora Robson in Wuthering Heights

    Geraldine Fitzgerald in Wuthering Heights

Greer Garson in Goodbye, Mr. Chips

Kay Francis in In Name Only

  10. I was heartsick - for weeks - when Heath Ledger failed to win The Best Actor Oscar for his towering performance  as Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain".

And I was equally heartsick - for weeks - when Jake Glyennhaal failed to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his superb performance as Jack Twist in the same film.

Heath Ledger is a tragic figure all around.

I loved Brokeback Mountain.  I don't normally love movies made since I was born, but this one I loved.

  11. On IMDb, there is a "Patti Brooks", who is an actress with 8 TV credits. There is also a "Pattie Brooks", who is a singer, and who has songs on 9 film soundtracks.

That is going to help answer this question and what Vautrin meant.  Also that several people who normally participate in trivia threads are quite busy.

I am not sure which soundtrack DGF wants.
