WHY WERE WE CUT OFF FROM "THE TEN COMMANDMENTS"?
GregoryPeckfan replied to doreet's topic in Information, Please!
Hello, Doreet. I understand your frustration. I am glad my teenaged neighbour showed me how to record things by PVR so that I can watch things when I want to watch them and fast forward through ads. I used to get lots of mag subscriptions and have cancelled them all. I live in British Columbia and there were several channels that aired The Ten Commandments and other religious epics during Holy Week. I have movies that I want to watch every particular holiday. For me, Christmas is Christmas without Sim's version of Christmas Carol -
I have the same reaction to The Days of Wine and Roses you have. I know that the song by Mancini is haunting and I have it on a cd of his compositions, but I have dealt with such people in my life. I have the same type of reaction to The Lost Weekend. Great film. But difficult for me too watch as it is too near me.

I love this movie too. But just this first one.

Rudyard Kipling Adaptions in Movies and Television
GregoryPeckfan replied to GregoryPeckfan's topic in Your Favorites
I forgot to mention in this thread when we were on the year 1937 in the Favourite Performances thread the movie and novel Captains Courageous. There has been quite a debate over whether Spencer Tracy who won the Oscar for Best Actor should have been a supporting Actor category participant and many people agree about this. Regardless, the movie is a fun adventure film full of great performances and a popular child star, Freddie Bartholomew.- 29 replies

This reminds me of how Mary Tyler Moore lost out on playing the daughter of Danny Thomas. She lost the role because their noses were too dissimilar. Remember too, DGF, that since there are two biological parent, the child could look like one over the other or even half way between.

Ah, Raymond Burr. My favourite Canadian-born actor of all time. I am not sure I'll be able to focus on getting answers for this today because I'm tired today, but I had to comment on it because I love Burr so much and I am happy with the category.

Your Favourite Performances from 1929 to present are...
GregoryPeckfan replied to Bogie56's topic in Your Favorites
Thanks for the pm. The poll you mentioned I guess was the wrong word. I thought you meant like the poll Paulll started about the decades. I see that is not what you meant. I have the weekends cleared up now as to years. I found out Tuesday night that my solo is going to include some choreography. I have to process up the aisle when I am the caller for I Hear the Profit Calling. In the morning. Five days notice. Sigh. thanks for clearing that up. Cheers GPF -
People have quite different reactions to movies and genres on this site which I find refreshing. Even if someone hates a film I love, not everyone will agree. I am slowly learning on this site to write for me alone. If other people enjoy it, great. Bonus. If not, I am having fun. I do have NO sense of humour when I have not slept mind you. OR my humour is in such bad taste I cringe when I read it the next day. And ultimately, I hate my typing skills and sometimes just decide to forgo fixing mistakes.

This movie is excellent. It is one of my favourite all time Robert Ryan movies.

Your Favourite Performances from 1929 to present are...
GregoryPeckfan replied to Bogie56's topic in Your Favorites
That will be fine by me. I already wrote out what films I've seen for 1939 so I could get that done long before this big weekend for me. But are you setting up the poll? I was going to originally try (?) to take at least a 24 hour if not 48 hour break from online just to see if I could do it, and then check back here for 1939, but if we are starting earlier than Sunday, I won't. Just an experiment to see if I really can do it or if it is really a function of not being interested in the hot topics of the day. My guess is only in terms of out of sight out of mind. Period. -
Great Performances That Did Not Win An Oscar
GregoryPeckfan replied to rayban's topic in General Discussions
I believe Bobby Darin was nominated for his role in Captain Newman, M.D. It was the height of his dream to be nominated. He knew with his rheumatic fever as a child he would die young. -
Incendiary Blonde - new to me musical I watched as it aired as part of TCM's night of Arturo's movies. Betty Hutton was the title character. I have been unfamiliar with this singer's biography up until now. It was full of great music, dancing, supporting actors. But: SPOILER: I wonder why she did not tell Arturo that she was not going to be able to wait for him and kept it secret? I mean, why not tell him she was going to die before he got out? Bit of a downer ending. As I said, I did not know the biography of this woman. If I did before I saw it, I would have watched it during the daytime instead of at night. I could have recorded it. Oh well. Great music anyway!

Twelve O'clock High is one of my favourite ten movies of all time of Gregory Peck's career. People who have been in combat in planes who have seen the film say that this movie is exactly what the relationship between commanding officer and men. Glad you are back online.
