He died a staggering awful death though didn't he, think he smoke e-5 pks per day & then, the most despicable act of his wife was sneaking a photo of him while in the hospital dying & sold it!!!

Lots of Oscar fans thought it unfair that 3 time winner Walter Brennan won yet again in THE WESTERNER because they felt it a co-starring role with the legendary Gary Cooper & not support Not me though He was also ignored as Stumpy in RIO BRAVO
-
I've seen them all except CAPRICE

Top, how do you play this trivia game It appears you just say yes or no, correct?

I know off the top of my head who was officially up for leading actor for 1954 & The Chairman of the Board: Francis (Albert) Sinatra shoulda been nommed for Best Actor that year It's barely my vote as his finest hr of pure acting, he chose 1955's Man With the Golden arm instead. Suddenly is just 77 minutes & unlike many villians he had no redeeming qualities right to the end He was a far superior actor then Bing too. & never took one single lesson Anybody else ever see this crime-drama/thriller, it's often on TCM Official Best Actor contenders for '54 were: *Brando in Waterfront Bing Crosby, Country Girl James Mason, A star is Born Bogey in Caine Mutiny & Dan 0'Herlihy, Robinson Crusoe-(this is the slot FS deserved to be in) (Honorable mention: Tracy in Broken Lance) THANX

(*-always denotes Oscar victory) Posted something like this yrs ago when I first discovered that AFI had a huge special & poll at The Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood conducted by now 87yr old J. Williams They voted on the top 25 all-time greatest film scores, but I'd love you TCM-ITE'S own candidates please to compare Again just as a reminded here was AFI's top ten out of 25 (P.S. though very early watch for both Randy & Thomas Newman go up against each other for o. score for Marriage Story & 1917) AFI-(American Film Institute) 2006 survey 1st *Star Wars (John Williams) 2nd GWTW (Max Steiner) 3rd *Lawrence of Arabia (Maurice Jarre) 4th The Godfather (Carmine Coppola & Nino Rota) 5th Psycho (B. Herrmann) 6th Laura (David Raskin) 7th *Jaws (J. Williams) 8. The Magnificent 7 (E. Bernstein) 9. Chinatown (Jerry Goldsmith) 10th place *High Noon (D. Tiomkin) & Runners-Up 11th *The Adventures of Robin Hood (Erich Wolfgang Korngold) 12th Vertigo (B. Herrmann) vs. my own favs 1. (tie) Once Upon a Time in the West & Once Upon a Time in America (Ennio Morricone) 2. Modern Times (Chaplin) (SMILE) 3. The Godfather 4. East of Eden (L. Rosenman) 5. *Jaws 6. On the Waterfront (Leonard Bernstein) 7. Giant (D. Tiomkin) 8. *0ut of Africa (John Barry) 9. Somewhere in Time (J. Barry) 10th own fav The Quiet Man (Victor Young) Anyway one cuts it *MAX STEINER (l888-l97l) is the CHAMP!!!

Urerageously Peckinpah only earned 1 single nomination

Irony of ironies, though Pat Garrett & the Kid is terrific filmmaking with a ton of familiar faces according to history the pop flix Young Guns & Young Guns II are the most accurate, who woulda thunk it? -
Just now rewatching for the umpteenth time his own favorite from '73 Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (***1/2-out of four)]\ & TCM just aired the cult flick with the vastly underrated Warren 0ates Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (**1/2) Matter of fact Leonard Maltin writes that Warren's work in the other drive in cult film from 1971 Two-Lane Blacktop (***1/2) shoulda had the Oscar & though Depp played Dillinger, 0ates had him down perfecto & looked more like him too But, Peckinpah's sole shot at an Academy Award was for writing his masterpiece THE WILD BUNCH? Which going over my Oscar bible by the late Mr. 0sborne only garnered 2 lousy nomination for '69 Edmond 0'Brien was equally robbed of another shot too 1 film I wasn't fond of by Sam was his last The Osterman weekend (**) (TRIVIA: Oates died at only age 52 in 1982 & had his ashes scattered ion his ranch which pal Dennis Quaid bought)
-
I neglected to include a huge film he made fior 1977 that has mixed reviews among his best NEW YORK, NEW YORK
-
Top, do you like the new format buddy?

even more so then Bogdanovich Marty is a walking, talking bible of motion picture history

Can't believe tis utterly fantastic film only made $4m. & not 1 single Oscar shot? For true fans of the greatest comedic duo in motion picture history it is an absolute must I was even teary eyed at it's finale, which I rarely if ever do & once again Hollywood/AMPAS screwed up BIG-TIME Who has seen it? THANK YOU
