Just saw few days ago 1981's good (strong ***-0out if 4 stars) many critics give it 3 & 1/2 Absence of Malice with *Newman & *Sally Field An Oscar contender as usual for *Paul again & Melinda Dillon-(support) I bet many have already seen this one, for me it's been yrs 1st caught it in a theatre Christmas 1981 in NJ Another film about Journalism of course (All the President's Men the obvious mt. summit) Wilford Brimley-(just now age 85, where is nobody would believe me back with 1985's Cocoon when I said he was only 50, *Ameche for example was 26yrs older! Sadly, only got to see the three old guys chairs when on that set, they were likely doing sequences down the rd where most was filmed at another Retirement Villaqe

Asked this before but no reply-(by the way good shot of Errol, how young) don't know where you live sppedracer5, but if you ever can go to Glendale & Mulhooland, Dr & check out his grave & fmr house It was also used for location in a few movies-(mostly burned down now, but some left for now) 1994's rarely known of comedy w/*Pesci Jimmy Hollywood being just one & 1983's Breathless remake with Richard Gere another, there are more

Does anybody here collect all THE LEGENS OF HOLLYWOOD STAMPS? I've furiously written this before but *The Great: Tracy is the sole old out I'm positive collectors of that marvelous series-(I only have 13 td & framed on my own WALLS-OF-FAME) probably searched for *Tracy's to add to the collection & he's mysteriously absent Reason being is own grandson mixed-0n when they were actually announcing 2 prototypes pf a stamp for him , one was perfecto from Boys Town & the other not so much-(even the Tracy's agreed, Cyndi in particular) from '49's ok (**12) Edward, My son But Joe TRACY had to push his own prototype &he's always been more then obnoxious-(actually sounded like my dad on the phone & was also a marine during Desert Strom) was so obnoxious they chucked the lot as the limey folks say The govt was wrong & shoulda went 4th no matter with his own stamp Maybe now that every single other Golden Age heavyweight has one they will come out with them (NOTE: Amazon has all of them by the way) I was lucky enough to get my 13 at actual local post office, they don't do it anymore, due to the net *Bogart, *Davis, Universal Horror Actors, J.D., Marilyn, *Cagney-(also got a couple of Mr. Dynamites due to being my own mum's fav ever!), , Edward G. & to my delighted surprise one day in May of 08 the post office dedicated an entire wall to *Francis Albert Sinatra on anniversary of his demise on May 14th, 1998. Needles to say I had a field day getting as much as I could $afford$ Of course no *JW then as yet. AGAIN, CHECK OUT ALL ON AMAZON, though don't know if you can just pay for say 1 Garbo or *Kate Hepburn, but a book? My goal was (l998/99) to get then them all THANKS FOR YOU KIND ATTENTION

(*-always will indicates an Oscar winner) Also, due to our pc era it took the postal service a lot longer to finally give *Wayne a stamp, then the rest & with AFI's 10yrs....100 Stars it's still difficult to fathom that they voted him down the list at #13th all-time male star??? *Bogey as most know was voted A #1-(who I'm a bit of a fan of too), but who's more legendary in even regular history to me it's *Chaplin & *The Duke" & on that vote, *Charles (Spencer) Chaplin was even short changed at #10th ever

Erik, you know though the fake trailers & cracking screen was meant as a homage to 1970's drive in cinema, right I was mixed on the first 1/2 by Rodriguez-(who also helmed the terrificly inventive 2005 Sin-City Mickey Rourke was left out in the cold fir a s. actor shot for it!) but that 2nd chapter was something to behold those car scenes & all, STEVE McQUEEN woulda' love it, or maybe he still did Stunningly it didn't even earn a Film Editing **** that year

Benjan Button was amazing at times & deserved it's Academy Awards Visual effects, Make-Up & Art Direction Leonard Maltin very stingy with his rating gives it 4 stars! & it did well with ticket sakes at $135m But a very expensive film kinda like Fight Club ($38m.) same director as Benjamin Button David Fincher & see the WW2 tank film he made? I think snatch & Kalifornia were his finest hrs of pure acting, but to me overall his greatest picture yet is *Tarentino's WW11 epic Inglorious Basterds & must admit, despite *The Chairman Sinatra being one of my idols, I thought the remake of Ocean's Eleven ($182m.) was about as good CLAIRE DE LUNE scene was worth the price of admission

Yeah Thelma & Louise got him noticed & it was around this time-(l990/91) that he was actually going out with Robin Givens, of curse then Mike Tyson's lady & one night-(Tyson always jokes about this incident) he happened to be outside his mansion-(which she & her mother later got) & up the driveway comes her & Pitt-(then virtually unkown) driving up the driveway to the house & then Brad sees who is standing there & puts 2 & 2 together & freaks out, jumps out of the car & keeps yelling "No No man, not in the Face, just don't hit me in the Face" unquote, all the while seemingly high on pot probably kinda smiling at Mike & apologizing, etc Tyson never hit him, but says he was close. That was the last time anybody saw Bad with Givens, this was just before Tyson lost his title she and her monster of a mother did this all the time, gold-digging & got him real good eventually He probably wouldn't have lost the title that fast (just 4yrs) if he'd never met robin & on this night Pitt was caught n the middle Just punch in n your computer Brad Pitt & Robin Givens together & many photos will show up

Nether a I a slasher fan, it's just so '80's huh Halloween was in a different & classier league

Just relocated an old book by Peter Bogdanovich titled>Movie of the week: 52 Classic Films for one Year was a gift around 1985 or so & for the most pt it's like the current TCM book titled>The Essentials: 52 Must-See Movies and Why They Matter by Jeremy Arnold & Mr Robert 0sborne it's far classier than Peter's book, but almost identical in subject matter He has as just a ample the likes of>Some Came Running-(not just my fav of *Sinatra's 58, but is always among *Scorsese's top ten period), The Awful Truth, Rio Bravo, North by Northwest, Only Angels Have Wings, Ambersons, Kane, Liberty Valance, Bringing Up Baby-(his total inspiration for his own marvelous screwball comedy 1972 What's up Doc?), North by Northwest, Notorious, The Quiet Man, Out of the Past, The Third man, Singin in the Rain & 1 for every day of the wee, think he meant this book as a guide for families Peter even lists the dates to watch like a guide.

God, I unfortunately remember this one as well I was wrong back then about Rap Music & Break Dancing predicting both would die fast, obviously one is still around

Yeah, not only Ebert and Siskel but other critics said that about the *Wayne thing. Never thought of it but when one does there was a little look alike with Swayze & Kurt ever see Kurt in a role-(forgot about this villian, but still not as bad as the guy in Grindhouse) a 1975 tv movie with Ned Beatty where he played Charles Whitman the guy on the bldg. I think in Texas that shot down at people in the '60's Forget it's name right now Don't know your taste ion movies,. but Once upon a time in Hollywood to me was worth a look (**1/2-out of 4) especially if our a Tinsel-Town buff, see he scene where both are in frt of a restuarant Musso & Franks, went there in '99 w/my ma and it actually cost over $36.00 for 2 sands & 2 ice tea's It's also often focused on TCM & Manny-(likely now gone) he was about 87 a few yrs ago & ran the restaurant & did little tricks, etc He wasn't there the day I went, but McQueen used to be a regular and it was here where *Brando's son and daughter got into a huge argument & left, couple hrs later he shot her boyfriend to death up at *Marlon's mansion on Mulholland Oldest restaurant still running in town est in 1919 Plus, you see the Cineramadome & what I call The House Sinatra Built Capitol Records a lot it's the really tall white rigged bdg It'll likely snag about 9 Oscar noms A film or 2 you may ot yet have seen with Pitt-(likely o earn his 4th shot an Academy Award) Snatch-(his finest per.), Kalifornia are 2
-
To speedracer5, keep 'em comin brings back memories with all these movies though I only saw this one on tv around 1985 Didn't like it, but brings back memories of a better time in my life memories of a better time in my life Kenneth McMillian is a fellow Irishman that drank himself to death ion 1989 at only age 60 See his greatest work as an actor as Willie Conklin in Ragtime l98l, actually getting to have scenes with *CAGNEY! Are you big on the '80's especially? what ever became of teenage sex comedies & slasher films?
-
Just a sample of a few of Bogdanovich's favorite films Remember he also helmed same yr he did the superb Last Picture show (l97l) Directed by John Ford (l97l)-(NOTE: can't TCM air that one ever?) But his own inspirations in cinema history-(in no special order)> The Quiet Man (l952) Only Angels Have Wings (l939) Rio Bravo (l959) She Wore a Yellow Ribbon 9l949) The Searchers (l956) The Magnificent Ambersons (l942)-(he always rated it over Kane) Touch of Evil (l958) Stagecoach (l939) North by Northwest (l959) The Big Sleep (l946 version) My Darling Clementine (l946) & many more, his top ten listed in 1972 as part of Sight and Sound Survey was always longer & his idols>Hawks, *Ford, Hitch & *Welles

Interesting topic, didn't see who the author is though?
-
YUK THOUGH JOAN COLLINS!!!
-
Terrific job again top, I was correct she was up for 1974's Claudine but didn't have a chance vs winner *Ellen Burstyn in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (*Scorsese yet again) but My own Alternate Oscar that year must go to Gena Rowlands in A Woman Under the Influence
-
Wasn't she an Oscar contender for Claudine?
-
wow, yet another and not old either

Saw a few on cable demand the TCM section, who else has it? 1988's quiet, somber & strong Running on Empty helmed by Sidney Lumet & ironically considering his younger brother is all over the place right now Joaquin Phoenix, River Phoenix-(s. actor nom) typically of the academy though he's in every frame of it gets nommed for support, ala *T. Hutton in Ordinary people, *Eva Marie Saint in waterfront and many more still he's exceptional here Judd Hirsch and Christine Lahti portray his parents all on the run from blowing up a munitions-(hope I spelled it ok) during the height of Vietnam & the family tries to stay together no matter, what, but means they can never settle anywhere including the boy he plays, a talented musician but must hide due o his mom and dad The ending is a heartbreaker. it's script was also in the race look for it, I reviewed it that year & still give it (***1/2-0put of four)
-
I remember hat movie all said Kurt Russell was doing a *John Wayne impersonation Ever see *Tarentino's 2007 Grindhouse? You'd never now it but ol Kurt portrayed one of the sickest guys ever who liked killing young girls with his car-(a fmr stuntman his car was supped up BIG-TIME!) It has 2 sections Grindhouse the 1st half was Robet Rodriguez as director & about zombies, *Quentin did the 2nd and a long film as well, only raking in $25m. still that 2nd half is so powerful & has car chase scenes like you've never seen before or since But he was truly an all out villian

Unfortunately I do not reside in the culture mecca of the world down here in Pinellas Co. Florida, so no fan groups or anything like that is popular even louis-(Madonna) hates Florida, she comes her briefly todo a concert, but A it's too humid-(which she despises) & B it's dead A musician once even made a crack at her, a drummer once in rehearsals about he should be embarrassed about coming from 0rlando, though he had a good comeback for MY QUEEN "I'm sorry miss Detroit" unquote when they were building up Orlando & the studios they fully planned it to be another Hollywood type of place, but the weather won't allow it-(the Bucs go perfect with Tampa Bay) I' often written & spoke of them filming the terrific 1985 Cocoon down here, they shot another almost simultaneously with the wonderful John Candy-(1950-l994) 1985's mediocre Summer Rental (**) ($20m.) was the result, and then the Chamber of Commerce acted up in St. Petersburg by not allowing Warner Bros. to film a bldg. exploding for one of the Lethal Weapon flix, so the crew & WB's got even-0(the audience was laughing so hard too) they still did it, but over the final credits. They did shoot some movies in & around FL over the decades, most notably a couple Esther Williams musicals, Beneath he 20,000 Reef & somewhat with the all-time heavyweight from 1958 Old Ma and the sea with *The Great: Spencer Tracy, started off Key west, then off Cuba & *Tracy loathed locations, so they shot most of the classic back at Warner bros. in whats still the largest sound stage on the planet, I got to go by it on the WB's VIP tour & *Clooney had his usual basketball hoop outside it & they were inside filming 2000's huge blockbuster A Perfect Storm ($182mn.) (***1/2)

THANX LOVE THE CLIPS, NO MATTER WHAT PAL Somebody should do a clipfest segment on AFI's 2 first specials-(only the top ten finalist) 100yrs...100 Movies & 100yrs...100 Stars-(though they only had 25 winners for it?) She's still having ex, with who George Washington? -

1969's Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice is a well-made one (***) & a huge 3hit$ but I just don't like seeing NATALIE like that, old fashioned about her & Culp seemed to old for it, George Segal in my view woulda been better Strangely it's her biggest $hit$ even over the gigantic *West Side story -

Can you believe Dr. Ruth is still around and giving advice I always remember her throughout the '80's and she seemed like an old lady then -

Good one again pal it's often off the charts, but *Brando is brilliant as usual & right at home in this type of film 1973's Last Tango in Paris On that note, did most know that young girl passed away a couple yrs back? they say people were taken back to see him in this-(not only because of his perversions in it), but he was much younger then they thought right after Don Corleone
