  1. Yeah *J.L. warner & Warner Bros. publicity tried that artificial jazz with *Cagney, by wanting him to put on lifts & shaving 5yrs of his life, citing him born in 1904 vs 1899, but he'd have none of it
  2. I think Foch was up for a supporting *Oscar for 1954's "Executive Suite"
  3. & Eddie G., Jr. died young of something & is also interred at that "Hollywood, Forever, park"-(the 1 that borders Paramount & the old RKO Radio) & was ok in the famed classic from Hawks & Hughes 1932's "Scarface: Shame of a Nation" (UA)-(SEE MY BELOW POST ABOUT RAFT & EDWARD G., SR. THE TWO DETESTED EACH OTHER!) Never yet saw "red Light" though & as you & others probably recall his supporting turn in 1960's "Ocean's Eleven" (***-out of four) Plus, 1961's often hilarious Jerry Lewis comedy "The Ladies' Man" (***1/2) But, when it came to acting he was no Eddie G!
  4. It won the Best sound *0scar, but not a fan of this (**1/2) for 2 reasons, *Laughton-(superb actor, but I never cared for him my self) & it's a bit dated nowadays
  5. & like many during Hollywoods Golden age/studio System Era-(1925-1960) Raft also heighted & wore lifts, along w/Edward G, 5'5, *Bogart, 5'8, B. Donlevy, *Yul Brynner, Tyrone Power & of course the tragic Alan Ladd of whom was said to be 5'6 on his best day!
  6. Yep, even as fellow true life tough guy & also from Hell's Kitchen *Cagney wrote in his autobio that Raft was the actual toughest of them all He even flattened Edward G, during 1941's good "Manpower" (***-out of 4 stars)
  7. Yeah, Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer-(l927-59) was always in trouble & loved DOGs though & later earned $money$ by walking them & reportedly that's what caused his untimely death in '59, fighting with a guy over walking his dog & was shot to death in this guys' house, for yrs his son would charge kids to come & see the bullet hole in the wall. His grave at "Hollywood Forever, cem" has dogs on it
  8. I hate to admit it but Alec Baldwin would also be a marvelous host! Though not over the top (3) I already suggested
  9. I agree about her neat accent! Though never cared for Karger & his pc Ew reviews
  10. WINONA even hosted when Robert Osborne was out for a week & was also a TCM "Guest Programmer" TO SUPERVISOPR(S) PLEASE CONSIDFER THESE (3) THOUGH!
  11. However, the network is sorely missing a few that would be more qualified to host Leonard Maltin, Peter Bogdanovich & Winona Ryder are the prime examples
  12. Karger was a critic for EW magazine But I kinda like her, especially vs Tiffany Vasquez
  13. I wrote about this yrs ago on here, but still nothing ever happened as far as programming Maybe because of Reagan later become the president & Raft & his crime buddy Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel (l906-l947) he was the sole person at his funeral at "Hollywood Forever, park"
  14. Although George Raft (l895-l980) was a one note actor, he still should at least be a TCM "STOTM" one time. Like Ronald Reagan-(1911-2004) he made about 50 flix too.
  15. Didn't see the clips yet though
  16. A nice movie (***) but was called a commie film due to to HUAC witch hunt Necause the ladies' all shared an apt together?
  17. For once somebody else agrees with me on *Nicholson as "The Joker"
  18. I had listed (2) new & special tv documentaries/movies to cover here, but may wait for the other? THANK YOU By the way-(hope I spell it a ok?) ANDRE'S real name was Andre Russimoff) & privately had his ashes scattered on his beloved farm (ALSO: Does anyone know of any other pictures he appeared-in?) Many celebs besides pro=-wrestlers are interviewed: Billy Crystal, Rob Reiner, Robin Wright-Penn-(at least I think it may still be Penn? I know she's not hitched to *Sean anymore though), Cary Elwes, family members, including his only daughter of whom it says he left everything to)
  19. OOPS, how could I 4-get her in 1989 wonderful "Batman" ($251m.) In our current pathetic moviegoing era, with sequels, rehashes, comic books, etc I still think Tim Burton's first from '89 was great & entertaining fun & of course w/*JACK AS "THE JOKER!" I still rate his over *Oscar winning-(posthumously) *Heath Ledger's very strong & more evil turn though. However, of all lady screamers in THE M.O.V.I.E.S. *Kim may take the cake in it as Vicky Vale
  20. I've rarely written in this marvelous topic/.forum/thread,etc But just felt the need to try it & write of a couple brand new docu's I saw within the last couple of weeks. Both though were on HBO, the first that aired was almost as incredible as it's person it was about "ANDRE THE GIANT" Not only a must see of course for fans of professional wrestling-(which I was as a teen), but for anyone in general! They always fib about a wrestler's actual size, listing Hulk Hogan as always being 6'8, when he even recently said he was now barely 6'4 & 1/2-(pt of it is due to his spinal damage) But, as for ANDRE, the didn;'t have to hype his massive size up one bit! He truly was 7'4 inches & went in the lbs from 480lbs to approx. 600lbs when he suddenly passed away of a massive heart attack on his farm in N. Carolina in 1993 age 46. He knew for many yrs he was dying-(GIANT'S DISAEASE") so literally first tried to drink himself to death & never stopped! I first got to see this bohemeth very close around 1975-(about age 10) in a dumpy place in Philly called "The Arena" & first thing that struck me was the sheer size of his head. Back then the good & bad guys would come out of separate entrances. He was the good guy back then. Very 1st Wrestler I saw as me & my pal entered the arena was "Rowdy" Roddy Piper-(also already gone) Then we-(my friends & mother were with me) really got to see/view him very, very close in Asbury Park, NJ & it was actually in a high school auditorium. ANDRE was in a tag team match & he was for virtually entire match in our corner, about 1`0ft from our frt row chairs. Also saw him & dig this VS. Hogan back around 1981 in "Shea Stadium"-(lousy place for sports, planes flying over & they then had all leave for the train through same entrance!?) & despite as Vince McMahon says, everything that occurs in the past in the game, never did, to build the hype for the next big thing. Hogan body slammed him back then & in their final match, where ANDRE was now the villain & Hulk the good guy of course-(1980's & McMahon reinvented it all) & as far as anyone knew or knows unlike almost all of these athletes, he never even worked-out,etc & in order to pass the torch, ANDRE lost deliberately in this 1987 final match. Of course it's fixed & mostly fake, but often they don't know entire outcome & as this docu shows, they even have scripts. The show shows all of this & a lot more of course. Hulk kept worrying & nagging him about the ending & ANDRE would just play cards in the dressing rm & say "Don't worry About It" Born in France & strangely none of his family had same disease though. & as most know-(also a great pt of this docu) his most famous film role was in R. Reiner's fun (***) 1987 "The Princess Bride" ($31m.) also a cameo in '84';s "Micki & Maude" & played "Bigfoot" on TV's "Six Million Dollar Man"-(something Hollywood wanted to make for decades now?) It sadly goes on about his flying/tours & such & his ever increasing pain! CHECK IT OUT (Overall a strong ***1/2-out of 4 stars)
  21. Strangely & somewhat ironically despite Jeff coming from another "Acting Dynasty" & td has won 1 Best Actor *Oscar 7 noms. I bet he'll still always be remembered as "THE DUDE"
  22. Also saw "Door in the Floor" & your correct underrated & fairly good strong (**1/2)
  23. Caught this one on tv around '88 & it's pretty fun (**1/2 to ***) Never a big fan of *Basinger-(NOTE: & though like most I forecasted then 87yr old Gloria Start in *"Titanic" to become *"TITANIC'S" (12th victory) that year, but as you know *Kim won instead for "L.A. Confidential" ($65m.) (strong ***1/2) & still her sole nod. Personallyt never thought she was that great in "L.A." though? &much better in "Nadine" & a stage type of film opposite the already gone Sam Shepard "Fool for Love" (l984) & as for theever going excellent character actor Rip Torn (l931-) he's always strong & himself also a one time *Oscar contender for '83's fine "Cross Creek" (***)-(obviously the novel from which "The Yearling" was based on) (TRIVIA: Not certain but I think her debut was in the 1979 tv mini-series of "From Here to Eternity" W/NATALIE, W. Devane, Steve Railsback, Joe Pantaliano, Peter Boyle *Kim was in the *Donna Reed role)
  24. & was robbed of at least one more shot for "Postcards..." s. actress race Ever see "In Her Shoes" (2005) (***) ($35m.)? Never caught "Used People" or "Gambit" After again watching 1956's unfairly *Oscar sweeping *"Around the World in 80 Days" (***) it seems she's the sole survivor Plus, pretty-much sole survivor of "THE RAT PACK" (Henry Silva was somewhat one, but not as much as her) On an interview with Larry King-(l933-) she told Larry she had just had a dream of *Francis Albert the other ight Certain you know this, but for others in case *Shirley-(mom named her that because she just adored Shirley Temple) Her *Oscar noms & wins td: 1958 "Some Came Running" 1960 *"The Apartment" 1963 "Irma La Douce" (';63) 1977 "The Turning Point"-(*AMPAS trivia; ted with '85's "C. Purple" for most nods (11) without winning even one) & 1983's *"Terms of Endearment"-(of course won) & you all be the judge, the yr she deserved a 6th for "Postcards..."-(of course *"Marvelous Meryl" was once again in the Golden Race for it *W. Goldberg, "Ghost"-(won) Annette Bening, "The Grifters" Lorraine Bracco, "GoodFellas"-(I predicted *Whoppi would win, but my vote went with Bracco, the main lady in an all guys' picture!) Mary McDonnell, *"Dances With Wolves" & Dianne Ladd in "Wild at Heart" (SUPERB!)
