  1. By no means confused, I write on approx. a dozen others Just my satyle, but trying to improve a wee-=bit as us MICKS say BUT, NO MATTER=-(see below) I STILL ENJOY THOSE "ASTERISK"
  2. Man, man, o, man had a lot more faithful in you guys Thought at least one would at least only choose just one picture, let along 3 to 5, WHAT HAPPENED HERE VERY DISSAPOINTING Besides Top, where is LawrenceA, Jakeem & many others It's obviously not difficult???
  3. Top,. respect your opinion, especially on film & really thought you'd be among very first top cast even some of your favs within in film genre (P.S. Learned to use an "asterisk" decades ago & from movie books-=(late 1970's/early '80's) couple of reasons, got used to it & feel it brings more attention to such word OK Sports Fans-(quoting always 1980';s superb role by *Duvall in "The Great Santini" & always once in awhile stuck with me all these years?)
  4. & always reminds me what *SINATRA said during his '80's, "unfortunately when you get very much older everyone else from your orbit just drops like flies" unquote
  5. Who wages whom will be next recipient. An easy one but my $Dough$ goes on *BOBBY DEE
  6. When does it start airing? & will it be televised "Live?" Runners-Up: that may received the next OSBO Award are as fallow-(just my opinion) **DiCaprio-(though he made 5 already with *Marty, may still be too young at just age 44>) *Duvall would be my A #1 choice MAY HAVE GOT IT: Harvey Keitel-(l939-)-(TRIVIA: In a career spanning over 50yrs what is now Keitel's sole shot at an *Oscar???) However, these new awards are directed as Mr. 0sborne & not *Scorsese after this one Poor "OSBO" *Bill Holden was his movie idol, then Cary Grant & *James (Matlaind) Stewart & of his ladies in cinema: Gene Tierney, *Davis & grand friend *De Havilland, though think his fav. filmmaker Stanley Doen is still with us at 94 or so?-(matter of fact he told Donen on way out to the stage his top ten fav. movies & 7 were Stanley's! (TRIVIA: Marty's top heroes long gone though Cassavettes-(l929-89) & Michael Powell)
  7. Late last evening I first did the paper (almost 2hrs of research, files, etc & then carefully posted ton these very forums, still not one single takers yet though??? Would vust anyone explain WHY? IT'S THE HEADING OF YOUR TCM-ERS PERSONAL FAVS IN EACH & EVERY FIULM GENERE DATING BACK TO EVEN BEFORE SILENT ERA & YOU FANS HAD TO ONLY VOTE FOR ONE PIC. PLEASE AT LEAST LOOK AT IT thanx
  8. At Culver Studios, *Selznick's not only set a fire the huge walls of his "Kong" but "Little Lord Flauntleroy" & "Last of the Mohicans?"
  9. Didn't see entire post yet, did many mention *"THE IRISHMAN" with *Pesci, etc
  10. (*-always indicates an *AMPAS victor) Below I thought many times would be a kinda' fun survey of my fellow TCM-ITES & each fans individual favs within each of about 19 separate film genre's Of course nobody has top participate, just think it would be cool to see what us true movie books are like? i.e. virtually every other movie medium website & FB has done such fun fare already (NOTE: Each Genre can have up top 4-5 or even just 1 of your favorite within threat film genre, so HERE GOES & HOPEFULLY HAVE FUN & favs don't have to be limited to the US either ) & I';ll cast my own after watching these mostly almost 40yrs Sure Mr. 0sborne woulda' enjoy playing this one too & once again this (*) means an *Oscar winner) ACTORS: *Spencer Tracy (l900-l967)-(however *Spence is our all-time finest film actor (*Olivier on the stage) *Francis Albert is many almost equal hero & idol, though more for his astonishing 6 decades of music!) ACTRESSES: Natalie Wood-(l938-8l)=("Love of My Life" even prior to her staggering demise on Nov. 29th, 1981. at only age 16. BUT AGAIN FAVS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST HERE) DIRECTORS: *John Ford-(l894-l973)-(aka "The Master" & 4 BD victories & 2 more in WW2) ALL-TIME GREATEST MOTION PICTURE FINALE: *"Casablanca" but close behind *Modern Times" ANIMATED: "Dumbo" (l94l Walt Disney/RKO) ADVENTURE starting from the alphabetical top: "Captains Courageous" (l937-MGM)-(barely over "Treasure Sierra Madre" (l948-Warner Bros.) BIO's: "Raging Bull" (l980) YOUR FAVORITE CARTOON CHARACTER: "Bugs Bunny" (Warner Bros.) (was a combo of Groucho & others) OUT & OUT COMEDY-(meaning not comedy-dramas such as a *"Cuckoo's Nest" & myriad of others) (My choice "Modern Times" (l936-UA)-(again by a flip of a coin over 1935's "A Night at the 0pera" (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) COMEDY-DRAMAS: "City Lights" (l931-UA) CRIME/GANGSTERS: "The Godfather" (l972) DRAMAS: *"Casablanca" (l943-WB's) DOCUMENTARIES: "Shoah" (l985 France) FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM: "Cinema, Paradiso" (l989 Italy) FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION: "2001: A Space 0ddysey" (l968-British) & FANTASY: "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" (l982) MYSTERY/FILM 'NOIR "The Third Man" (l950)-(Selznick/London Films) & A VERY FINE LINE BEWTEEN THE 2 FILM GENRE'S "Vertigo" as well. MUSICALS: "The Wizard of 0z" (1939 M-G-M)-(ultra close race between it & 1952's "Singin' In the Rain" MGM) ORIGINAL-MUSIC SCORES: (A TIE FOR ME): "Once Upon a Time in the West" (l969) (Ennio Morricone) & Leone's 15yr later companion pc "Once Upon a Time in America"-(directors cut) WAR: "Apocalypse Now" (l979) WESTERNS: "The Searchers" followed by "Shane" (l953-Paramount Pictures) & If you guys also want another poll & or survey what about all-time favorite fistfight-(Boxing not included though): "The Quiet Man" THANK YOU FOR ME TIME & CERTAINLY WANT SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE'S TO MATCH UP??? J.S. (Spencer)
  11. And director, author, critic Peter Bogdanoch-(l939-) though did 1 superb picture in '71's "Last Picture Show" & did the grandly entertainment from '73 "Paper Moon" Was far more a cinephile & movie buff, note all his books & docu's-(including the superb 1971 docu with *John "Pappy" Ford in Monument Valley & was an actor at times including most notably on TV's tremendous series "The Sopranos" All these filmmakers came out of film school (UCLA, USC & many more-P.S. *Spence truly despised that type of thing himself!) Others *Spielberg, *Lucas, *Friedkin & many more Mainly because his own mentors never even tried or needed to do so
  12. *Francis Ford Coppola-(l939-) was never really a big movie fan though & mainly made *"THE GODFATHER" (l972) due to wanting to show the disintegrating of the Italian famiy
  13. Certain you guys will know of this easy one, Paul Agguire got to choose (4) of his favorite pictures-(same as all-the rest of TCM's star "Guest Programmers" However, notice other day the current winner only was allowed to shoe one film, why & what was it' Of course his name is (Paul Agguire, or maybe before him was Peter Bosch, get confused on these winners OOPS, matter of fact 2017's winner ended with name of Matinez I think? & on that unfair note, these winners are snubbed & also deserve to chose (4) flix, like the celebs WHAT 1 FILM DID HE SELECT THOUGH? Man, imagine of they had *SCORSESE on & his top 4, I'm positive he always bounces back between "Vertigo" & "The Searchers"0(a Western he's adored since childhood BIG-TIME!) Maybe on a very brief TMZ interview getting into his car-(I & WHOM ELSE DESPISES THAT TV SHOW?) he quickly just & for the first time blurted pout Hitchcock's A #1 ever vs. "The Searchers" instead? Maybe was also due to the stunningly upset in 2012 of "KANE" finally being unseated from "VERTIGO" that yr in the legendary "SIGHT AND SOUND SURVEY" or not? & It took 50 Years for another film to do so!!! PLEASE CLERIFY BUDDIES
  14. Sorry though cannot rate *Curtiz among cinema history's all-time greatest film directors though. Obviously your a big fan, but just look at HOLLYWOODS track record & no insult meant, but can you match him with some of the below "Name Above the Title" picture giants, though he did also have his name above the title as well I utterly adore "The Studio-System"-(circa 1925 to 1960 or some say 1963) over 35 years & *Jimmy Stewart often said it was the best way to make pictures. The stars just loved it too, not mostly having the leave the studio. *Tracy loathed locations & as he grew older & much nastier he almost to refuse to leave Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer- some called the "Dutchie's" who knows what they meant, please? always wanted to know since the must have "MGM: When the Lion Roared" (l992) & as far as it's longtime contract directors, each studio had it's own flavor/texture. L.B.'s fav was a total drunk W.S. Van Dyke, III" (d-1944) he would do just thought, 1 quy quick take take & move on. Filming such famous one's as "The Thin-Man-series"-(nommed for 1st) "Trador Horn" "Tarzan-series" "San Francisco"-(nomination) & many more quickies During that glorious era some other & mostly independant filmmakers intevented what was called "The Invisible Style" ala *Wyler, *Lean, though those latter landscapes *Curtiz-(somewhat) & of course other contracted directors & the epitome of the system helmer was MGM's *V. Fleming-(just check out his track out. Typical & fast essembly line working) *Michael was same on the Warner Bros. side "Moguls' knew these guys would get a picture down & fast, saving the studios $$$ BUT, a 25-26 yr old multi genius just shows up & threw out all that junk as he called it, you know who he was *WELLES. *Chaplin just went his own way per usual bldg. his own "Dream Factory" on La Brea-(tar pits still there) & Keaton was almost physically destroyed after silent era & MGM signed him in some lousy quickies w/Durante. Mayer simply loathed comics! But my own votes for the top 5 fav. filmmakers/directors-(PLEASE SEND YOUR ?)>A pretty good Western (**1/2) however *Lee drew before *"The Duke"
  15. MAN, MAN, O, MAN, I really taken back & mostly from this group! Doesn't anyone even care about the history of a place once dubbed "HOLLYWOOD" anymore I write on many other sites & they even give 2 cents on this tragic matter? & they are in no means in you folks category WHAT HAPPENED HERE? & as I just wrote I have myriad of books on every so many more that just made way from current & mostly money & greeed (P.S. & this shook me to my cord when first trying to even get my knees stable, almost falling out when only entering that gates at 3 & 1/2 acres "Westwood, park" & I'm very aware most may act same way to to MM';s final resting place, though after 18yrs & 1/2 I finally was getting close to Natalie's grave-(always under huge tree & still standing) & after only somewhat getting myself together I obviously notice her lil cemetary was now also getting overrun everywhere with business buildings! I immediately when getting home down here in FL & hit the net & bless them, for now her cem was officially & all,of a sudden protected from the govt. A national shrine I think is the them, same as something much, much, lighter Jayne Mansfields's pink palace also protected E. Humberdink immeditaly wanted to do it over, but they said NOPE!
  16. I have it narrowed to to just two images/Avatars, *Tracy & *Sinatra & as I previously stayed have them SAVED for about 6 months just waiting for help (NOTICE: A fellow TCM-ITE did indeed try to help me but I had tons of personal prolem as the time)
  17. NO MATTER HOW I TRY IT I STILL AFTER (17/18yrs) SIMPLY CANNOT PUT AN AVATAR ON MY PROFILE??? & HAD A BIT OF A OFFICE TOO NEED DETAILED HELP PLEASE THANK YOU Even have the photo saved also for many months & how long & tedious does it take, but very, very much want it
  18. To all you TCM-ITES, just noticed on about 5 smaller sites, they act as it will be anytime now in literally destroying the RKO RADIO GLOBE that sits on Melrose & Gower I believe. Personal not for me exact same motel I stayed at all 3 vacations was almost a stone's thrown away & got tons of shots of it, even from across Melrose. All know Joseph P. Kennedy had it installed around 1929/30 when purchasing the studio, that surprising to this veeery long student of HOLLYWOOD, shared same lot with PARAMOUNT. Reckon' due to our disgusting current era now the will now tear down entire RKO side to make it all Paramount of course HOLLYWOOD is wo5rse then NYC & others in totally destroying it's never to be repeated history I could check out my books-(but that's cheatin) must first come off your head & not the overexposed & cheating internet either. Just a compilation of famed places they tore down since the inception of HOLLYWOOD, but that's for another page RKO's left side of the factory had or maybe still has-(2005 was my last trip) a phenomenal; hamburger joint next door Astro Burger & with & you may have guess it Bogey's liquor store nearby ALSO: For those that can't entirely recall this legendary RKO Globe, it's all over the net, just punch in it, Paramount & of course RKO On the Paramount tour-(which is very good (***1/2) But the architecture changes as you simply walk over a line from current to the 1930's I kept nagging the tour guide about is this huge s. stage where some of "KANE" was shot or even "KONG" he always should me them though-(though most filmed near what was yet another decimated empire called M-G-M_(200 acres, now 40 & Sony) but just up it's rd a tonnage was filmed at Culver Studios-(books & net coverage a lot, but still offers no tours) They say from a façade & from it's locked gates you can still easily see Tara, same used for *Selznick's 1946 "Duel in the Sun" & sooo many more classics on both movies & TV were shot within it's guarded walls Still a fuctioning studio as well CHECK IT OUT ON (www.seeing stars.com & even better to find Culver Studios just go to it's website LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND??? NEED INFO
  19. Ben Mankiewicz' all-time favs in cinema-(l967-) most know it's hard to locate his favs & had a couple discussions about this matter on the boards, though I found his tops months ago)> 1st *"WEST SIDE STORY" (l96l) 2nd *ALL ABOUT EVE": (l950-Fox) 3rd *"BEN-HUR" (l959-MGM)-(maybe his #1?) 4th "OUT OF SIGHT" (l998) & Ben's actors> 1st STEVE MCQUEEN-(l930-l980)-(he often says he want to be "The King of Movie Cool") 2nd *LEE MARVIN (l924-87) Not yet certain of his favourite actress though, ANYBODY KNOW? & I THANK YOU (P.S. For those they not be familiar with Ben's relatives *J.L. Mankiewicz & *Herman J. Mankiewicz-("Kane") he still really looks like both men, but much lighter)
  20. GEE, wonder what happened to the too young Tiffany Vasquez? I know what likely happened TOO YOUNG! I started studying cinema history at 14 to 15, but wasn't on the airwaves BRING WINONA BACK, she loves & knows her stuff sports fans Even a couple days a week
  21. I recall Karger from my EW mag subscribing & strongly disliked his reviews then, but for a few reasons I simply loath what the pc culture is doing & has for about 10yrs rating movie on a school teacher's grade of A, B, C, D,etc These ridiculous ratings starting on the net & from wet behind the ears college kids to start with Karger never really even wrote about classic cinema-(20-25yrs & older) in his pieces either, now all of a sudden his either Maltin or the next Mr. 0sborne? Ebert & Siskel, Schickel, Corliss, Premiere & many others got infuriated when these up & comers started that rating system, ALWAYS sticking with the four star system that started in Daily News & in the 1920's & not certain but what well be thee A No.1 all-time finest film critic & of course screenwriter James Agee-(l909-55) would turn over in his grave. I can wager right now that if the current TCM likes of David Karger didn't use cue cards on even say "Captains Courageous" "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" & mayb even the legendary "KANE" he couldn't know the facts in his head. Not to begin to include the silent era THANK YOU FOR YOU TIME
  22. To anybody, Top Billed, LawrenceA, Jakeem, etc please send me something on an on air new item-(not the superb TCM "NP" Guide sent via regular mail. I have boxes of 'em & was lucky because it unfortunately folded as u know) This seems very different & I pd each detail to these newer-(2 months) commercials IT IS ADVERTIZED AS A NEW TCM "NOW PLAYING" though DIGITEL GUIDE & I QUOTE IT'S FREE & SENT EVERY MONTH OR EVEN TWICE MONTHLY GUIDE OF THE NETWORKS PROGRAMMING PLEASE HELP ME WHEN YOU CAN & AS USUAL I THANK YOU
  23. (*-always indicates an *AMPAS winner) Obviously 3 time *Academy Award contender & also 1956 annual $Box-0ffice$ champ *William Holden-(l9l8-8l) is TCM's STOTM for this month of April-(NOTE: For those that already know who is that for May?) & just wanted to throw in my 2 or 3 cents on my personal candidates for what Mr. 0sborne would call "The Seentials" & all were limited to just 4 flix, same as his marvelous monthly GP's-("Guest Programmers") 1st things first his noms & wins for > 1950 "Sunset Blvd" (Paramount) (leading actor nod but *J. Ferrer as "Cyrano de Bergerac" won that year instead) 1953 *Stalag 17" (Paramount) (the role of his career as Sefton & had strong competition to win with Brando in "Julius Caesar" Montgomery Clift & Burt Lancaster in "From Here to Eternity" & Richard Burton in "The Robe"-(FOOTNOTE: *"The Great: Tracy" actually won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama in "The Actress" but received for a change no nomination for this terrificly done work in the Cukor production & should have in Burton's slot. Burton was later a heavyweight actor & speaking/narration voice, but even Leonard Maltin writes his work in "The Robe" was stiff & dull. & I knew remaining family of *Tracy's-(lived in Action CALIF. then) & Cyndi T. virtually refused to believe he ever won a Globe? So she went into other rm & saw I was on the $$$ It would eventually gave him a grand total of all (10) Nominations though. Next time theunderrated 7 somewhat laconic *Bill & his last was the staggeringly volcanic 1976 "Network" though as most now insists he really had the leading role & it's anchor, don't get me wrong *Finch was sooo brilliant, but only totally had approx. 22 minutes screen time. (FACT/FUN: *Holden came in at the bottom unfortunately at 25th in 199's "AFI's 100yrs...100 Stars") & ion recent yrs the likes of our own R. 0sborne, A. Baldwin, Bill Murray=-"Stalag" is a pic he says he can't satop watching) & even 2 time *Academy victor *Kevin Costner idolizes *Holden & a role model) & Paramount always planned to cadst both Aldo Ray & Eli Wallach in the roles of Robert E. Lee Prewitt & Maggio) & My "Essential *Wiliam Holden movies, or If I were have a Film Festival of his> 1st "Sunset Blvd"-(utlra close w/"Stalag" though) 2nd "Stalag 17"-(can you believe this is where the '60's sitcom from?) 3rd "From Here to Eternity" -(swept 8 *Oscars as most know reading this. An Aside but this is among the top war films, but for my money "Shane" still stands up the test of time) 4th *"Bridge on the River Kwai" (l957-British/Columbia)-(again he had more story/vocal point then *Oscar winner *Alec Guinness, nonetheless a true 1950's era & more tremendous WWII drama. *Alec's 1 & only acting *Oscar victory & pretty certain it was between this & Must always be included among Hollywoods top ten war-films)-(SEE BELOW "WIOLD BUNCH" which I like even more monthly) & 5th, but not really, this utterly game changing Western changed all the rules of Hollywoods oldest film genre & by doing to they invented the MPAA-('67's "B & C" started it rolling of course) It is "The Wild Bunch" (l969) & back to my 135-50 books, many vote "WB" as among the all-time all-around greatest films! Now this got nominations for it's Screenplay, Editing, Score-(Jerry Feilding), & that was about it? & think it was author Danny Peary of "Alternate Oscars" & said he without question there were the greatest horse soldiers of all-time. AN ACADEMY CO "WB" & his terrific "Cable Houg""(Jason Robards l970 3 1/2but this isn't mostly about & don't 4-get the splendid 1974 "Wild Rovers" (***1/2) among his finest roles opposite Ryan 0'Neal. (ON SECOIND THOUGHT "WB" is now my 4th "Essential" of his, "Pike" *Bill's biggest $B.O.$ smash early on was 1956's "Picnic" but that was only a year before *"KWAI" "Love Was a Many Splendored Thing" (l955) (not only a big *Oscar contender, winning 3, but was another financial biggie. & then of course an epic & another disaster epic by Irwin Allen 1974's "The Towering Inferno" (as a kid of maybe 11 at best McQueen was my 1st hero from The Silver-Screen & my best friend used to go to it daily & "Jaws"-(same dumpy theater in Delaware, then as most kids do we'd act out the pts I however had to always be in Steve's role. HIS DEMISE WAS VERY, VERY SAD ALLEDGEDLY COMING INTO HIS SANTA MOINCA APTS & WAS SOOO DRUNK-(coroner when finally finding the actors' body said he had consumned 3 bottles & alone of vodka. & this always bothered me for such a super star, nobody even discovered his body for several days, so & this is gruesome they couldn't even recognize his remains & Osbo said after airing the only fair (**1/2) 1966 Western "Alvarez" opposite Widmark, he really, really started to hit that bottle-(TIP: CHECK OUT HIS INTERVIEWS ON YOUTUBE WITH JOHNNY! (an early debit at just age 21 for the actor that error was taking on 1939's "GOLDEN BOY" (**1/2 at best) Obviously the main problem the too young *Bill Holden, taking a role that the more cutting edge, tough & dynamic performer at the time JOHN GARFIELKD-(l9l3-52) HAD PLAYED ON STAGE & WAS TAILOR MADE FOR THAT NOW FAMED ROLE ANYONE AGREE? & on the top side & his penultimate production was Blake Edwards 1981 "S.B.O." (**1/2-overall & most of the over the top comedy was too much, however *Holden, R. Preston-(maybe his finest hour), & Robert Webber & not 4-0get their dead guest Richard Mulligan-(ACTUALLY BASED ON A TRUE INCIDENT IN H. HILLS W/ W.C. Fields, Flynn, Gene Fowler & John Barrymore-(won't give it all away, look it up, please) These 3-4 were absolutely more than marvelous together at it's final & stick around when the go fishing "A VIKING'S FUNERAL" THANK YOU
  24. On the H. Hughes-(l905-=76) Hughes utterly adored ladies' until he started getting worse with that disease of all & any germs yrs later
  25. & always superior to 1927's ok (**1/2) *"WINGS" (Paramount) the first BEST FIOLM *ACADEMY AWARD VICTOR-(though shared the top honor with much better silent pic. "Sunrise")
