I've seen all except the 2 'D's' (Dunkirk, Darkest Hour) and The Shape of Water was by far my least favorite movie of the year..rehashed story mashup, surplus of stereotypes, plot moved by some glaring questions;  Three Billboards...was by far the one you couldn't stop watching, and the best in my opinion (for what that's worth); I also enjoyed The Post and Lady Bird, although it's a 'little' picture, I'm sorry Laurie Metcalf's performance which was really nuanced,  will be overshadowed by Allison Janney's one-note, over the top performance in I, Tonya (but I really did like this film too...)

I totally agree about "Three Billboards..."   "LadyBird" may still take home Greta Gerwig for Best 0. Screenplay though

You really should go & see "D. Hour" as also a good history lesson. it & "Dunkirk" should be on a double bill

  2.   I saw "Shape...' awhile ago & personally think it's very well made but I liked "Three Billboards..." a lot more myself

& this seems like it's now headed to sweep the 90th Annual Academy Awards  including Best Director-(Del Toro) & Best Picture & it's marvelous score by Alexander Desplat-(think he already won for "Grand Budapest Hotel")

But it didn't stick with this viewer like "Three Billboards..."   which I think is exceptional

    overall (***1/2-out of 4 stars)

Anyone else see this yet, or any of the other 2017 Oscar contenders?

    THANX

  3.   I already wrote this but it went bye., bye for some reason?

Has anybody on here ever visited her grave in "Westwood, cem?  It's much more famous as being the locale of the legendary Marilyn Monroe's final resting place though

& has anyone ever drove down the street (603 Canon, Drive in B. Hills) where her still standing-(for now) rather humble house is located?

    PLEASE CHIME IN IF SO

I wonder if it is the state of policing in America to finally have a lead here. I don't know how I feel about the whole thing. Natalie Wood's death is suspicious, and my feelings have always been thinking about Robert Wagner being the prime suspect. Christopher Walken plays suspicious, but I don't think there is blood on his hands, but money in his account to stay silent. I wonder whether Maureen O'Hara asked Natalie what happened when she transitioned into the metaphysical.

So you are a big *KATE fan?   So much of course to go on about *"THE GREAT KATE!"  & for anybody around the area someday, the final house of both *"The Great: Spencer Tracy-(l900-l967)"  & her, is the still standing at  9191 St. Ives Drive in Beverly Hills/But there is a lot of foliage surrounding it.

I have always wondered what really happened to Natalie.  I just don't think she would have voluntarily gone into the water or at the edge of the boat where she could fall in, especially at night and with her fear of dark water.  I don't care how buzzed she may have been.  I don't know if Robert Wagner had anything to do with it or not but it's certainly worthy of a more thorough investigation.

Well, she always joked that even though most involved on each project, were well aware of her ultra fear of dark water, somehow they still would get her into the water for sequences i.e. "Splendor..." "Daisy Clover"  the tv movie "Mystery of Eva Riker" the epic 1979 tv mini-series "From Here to Eternity" & more

NEW: Investigators say Robert Wagner is a "person of interest" in the drowning death of actress Natalie Wood.

@48Hours correspondent @EFMoriarty has covered the case for 6 years and has a preview of Saturday's @48Hours.

4 BIG STARS AGAIN BUDDY!   This topic is an incredibally personal one with me, I had just turned 17 when this

horrific event occurred. It really rocked me to my core!

However, I am no fan of Robert (RJ ) Wagner, but never felt as though he actually killed her. A long story involving

    her, Wagner & *Christopher Walken

& it's unlikely this latest police investigation will turn up any new items

    IMHO, Natalie was simply drunk.

The REAL villain in this story is Natalie Wood's stage mother, who was totally psycho.

No wonder Lana is a pain now.

Most also don't know about this horrible woman & virtually all you read/hear about her mahd-(Russian for mother)  & her father was actually Ukrainian.

is likely accurate or understating her. & she truly is what the term "Stage Mother" was invented for

As for her stunning death on November 29th, 1981.  Her sis Lana wood is on the $$$ this time out

Check out Natalie's awful accident dating back to the early to mid 1940's  when she was just but a tiny little girl ^

Robert Redford had the best idea of all -- a foot race.

Hello Jakeem, I agree with most of what you wrote, but it's like any sport &  horce racin'  it's still fun to attempt to outguess what they may vote for & study it's history

It's sadly-(because it takes the fun part our of it), already looks as though we can see in what direction Hollywood is going for overall & "Shape.." sweep., &  with OLDMAN, McDORMAND, ROCKWELL, JANNEY & DEL TORO strongly coming out as victors come March 4th

Chalamet deserves the Best Actor Oscar. Oldman's performance is overrated. Day-Lewis is brilliant, but the film is a bit too odd for many people.

Swithin, we split BIG-TIME on Oldman's work in the picture! & at present you & I seem to be among the chosen few that actually saw "The Phantom Thread"

So, Spence, you're predicting another year of the rare split of best director and best picture. I like it when that occurs. The more it happens, the more interesting the last half- hour of the show becomes!

To sagebrush, thanx for replying.  Yep, as I wrote  it's a running tally sheet of my own forecasting of the final winners  (NOTE: I already made a couple (revisions)-( and as it stands right now & with Del Toro just winning the DGA Award, it propels the film to be a slight & ultra-close leader for the overall *AMPAS race)

(P.S. I had hoped more would throw in their own 2 cents though?)

Best known as Dr. Henry Frankenstein in 1931's FRANKENSTEIN and 1935's BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, I always wondered why he never appeared in 1939's SON OF FRANKENSTEIN, until I learned he had died 2 years earlier of tuberculosis!

Sad end to what could have been a very promising career. Who can forget his "It's alive! ALIVE!!" line in the original FRANKENSTEIN?

Of course he was also great in MAD LOVE too (as was Peter Lorre).

He was a big time alcoholic & ended up passing away in '1937 ate age 37

So far I've managed to see 50 films from 2017 which include all of those nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and BAFTA.  One of the criteria I use to judge films which comes in handy when comparing low budget to blockbusters and films of different genres is how well did they accomplish what they set out to achieve.   Here are my top picks....

    1.  Detroit

    2.  I, Tonya

    3.  All That Money Can Buy

    4.  Beauty and the Beast

    5.  Blade Runner 2049

    6.  Wonder

    7.  Darkest Hour

    8.  The Death of Stalin

    9.  Star Wars: The Last Jedi

    10. Journey's End

Runner Ups in order: Loveless, Lady Bird, The Party, Get Out, Dunkirk, The Big Sick, Coco

A well rounded list/compilation!   Did  you see all of these in a theatre as well?

Plan to see "THE POST" this week & have been able to see half of the BP race

I really hope Guillermo wins the Oscar. He and Cuaron and Inarritu came up in the Mexican film industry together, and they're all close friends. Del Toro had success before the other two, but they won Oscars first, so I'd like to see him join their ranks.

To LawrenceA, I think the BD race has been over for awhile now, Del Toro has long been the favorite.  I think Jakeem would agree, the only important Pre-*Oscar Awards now are The BAFTA'S-(British Film Academy)

Last year was such a total given the the wonderful "La La Land" would sweep a huge bunch of "statuette's" &  it mostly did except for "the biggie' Best Picture, in what is arguably the biggest upset in it's 89 years! It's much, much closer this time

  15. Now that the DGA has announced it's winner (Del Toro) which was no big surprised though, except that the film also win the PGA-(Producers Guild of America) this years *Oscar race has really gotten tighter for which sweeps & takes home the coveted Best Picture *Academy Award, of course mainly meaning between "SHAPE OF WATER" & "THREE BILLBOARDS...?"
