Here are my predictions, even though I have not seen many of these films at all.  These are mainly based on things i have heard and studied through precursors. Some in the smaller categories are rather shaky predictions. I have a hunch that The Post will be almost completely shut out due to late screening copies and complete misses at the DGA, SAG, and BAFTAs.

THANK YOU FOR SUBMITTING YOR PREDICTIONS, 4 STARS!

I agree with your choices completely in every other category, but I still wonder if James Franco will get a nomination for The Disaster Artist. I know the scandals have tainted him, but he's won in the category a lot, plus he got a SAG nom. I can see him taking the spot of either Kaluuya or Washington, although SAG omitted Daniel Day-Lewis.

LawrenceA, thanx for fast reply   Love to see your predix as well?

I agree with you about Three Billboards. I hope you are wrong about Shape leading the field. I know the press is touting Shape and downplaying Three Billboards, but Three Billboards and many other 2017 films are superior to the over-hyped Shape, which as I mentioned in another thread, is basically The Creature from the Black Lagoon Meets La La Land.

Shape was such a ripoff (not homage) of other films that I fully expected the mute to begin to talk at the end, a la Dorothy McGuire in The Spiral Staircase.

    thank you for your reply

Willis will be 63 in March (Neeson is 65 and Ford is 75). Contrast that with Charles Bronson being 53 when he starred in the original Death Wish. That film made him a bigger star than ever before, which is ironic since it was intended to help segue Bronson from his earlier, more physical (and often shirtless) action roles into older, dramatic parts. It's highly unlikely this new take will be anywhere near the success of the original, although it would be interesting if they adhere to the ethos of that earlier film, in that the "hero" is an everyday guy driven to the breaking point. No secret kung fu expertise or machine guns in each hand while somersaulting over the bad guys, but an average man, angry and even a little scared, with a gun in his hand. Part of Willis' initial appeal in films like Die Hard was that he was more like an average slob dropped into an action movie scenario. He wasn't a ripped, muscular demi-god like Schwarzenegger or Stallone, instead he was a kind of soft looking guy in a dirty t-shirt and a receding hairline.

    But it looks awful!

It's hard to believe, but it's that time again, when one year closes and another is on the horizon. I'll start off this new year's thread by posting the list of the most anticipated releases of 2018 as voted on by the users of the Internet Movie Database (IMDb).

    1. Avengers: Infinity War
    2. Black Panther
    3. Deadpool 2
    4. Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom
    5. Tomb Raider
    6. Pacific Rim: Uprising
    7. The Predator
    8. Ocean's Eight
    9. Mission: Impossible 6
    10. Solo: A Star Wars Story

That's 3 superhero movies leading off the list, and that's not even all of them. There's also Ant-Man and the WaspX-Men: Dark Phoenix, The New MutantsVenom and Aquaman.

I haven't read much about the next year's films but there are a few on my radar that I'm interested in:

Annihilation is the new science fiction film from Alex Garland, the writer-director of Ex Machina, and writer of Sunshine and 28 Days Later. It stars Natalie Portman as the leader of an expedition into a mysterious alien realm in search of her husband.

Isle of Dogs is an animated film from director Wes Anderson. I like his quirky sensibilities.

God Particle is a science fiction story whose details have been kept under wraps. It's supposedly going to be tied to the Cloverfield movies, but only in a very minor way.

The 15:17 to Paris is Clint Eastwood's take on the thwarted terrorist attack on a French train a few years ago. The actual guys who stopped the attack play themselves.

A Wrinkle in Time is the long-gestating adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's much-loved science fiction fantasy novel. The movie features Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, and Oprah Winfrey.

Mary Magdelene is another look at the biblical character, starring Rooney Mara, with Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus.

Ready Player One is a big-budget science fiction adventure from Steven Spielberg, based on a best seller about people searching for treasure in a virtual reality game populated by familiar pop culture characters.

Sicario 2: Soldado is a follow-up to the excellent 2015 film Sicario about the US/Mexican drug trade, with Benicio Del Toro returning as a lethal secret agent.

As usual, most of the more interesting movies won't be out until late in the year, and as such I haven't heard about them yet.

    SUPERB JOB!

Blvd from "The Pantages"which held them there from 1949 through 1959   "Pantages" was also the place where the very fist awards were presented "Live" on tv in 1953 honoring the 1952 film world. I can see that if all you ever watched of the Coen Brothers were Raising ArizonaO Brother, Where Art Thou? or The Ladykillers remake Their films are not all like those. The Coen's cover a large range of styles

This one reminded me of Blood SimpleFargo. and No Country For Old Men.

I thought it was the best film this year "Three Billboards.,.."

  10. as most already have indicated Gary 0ldman delivers a tremendous performance as Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour" & it's about 99% certain he will win the Best Actor *Oscar in awhile  Overall I personally think it a very fine bio as well, make-up-(which is likely to also win), art-direction, music, etc & a must for history buffs   Amazingly it will only be his 2nd attempt at an *Academy Award too   For me overall the movie  (***1/2-out of four) & of course for him 4 BIG STARS!   Who else has seen it?
