The veteran Willem Dafoe was chosen as Best Supporting Actor of 2017 for his performance as Bobby Hicks, the manager of The Magic Castle Motel in "The Florida Project." The drama was directed by the independent filmmaker Sean Baker, who co-wrote it (with Chris Bergoch) and co-produced it.

The last four actors to win the NYFCC award for Best Supporting Actor went on to claim Academy Awards.

In a surprise move, the critics organization voted the Best Supporting Actress award to the comedienne Tiffany Haddish for her performance in the summer box-office hit "Girls Trip." On November 11, she  became the first African-American female standup comic to serve as a guest host on the long-running NBC late-night sketch comedy "Saturday Night Live."

    Other awards went to:

    • Best Screenplay:
    • Best Cinematography: Rachel Morrison, "Mudbound"
    • Best First Film: Jordan Peele, "Get Out"
    • Best Animated Film: "Coco" (Lee Unkrich, Adrian Molina)
    • Best Foreign Language Film: "PBM (Beats Per Minute)," Robin Campillo (France)
    • Best Documentary: "
    • Best Nonfiction Film: "Faces Places," Agnès Varda and JR

ELIAS of course from *"PLATOON"  He deserved to win the *Oscar for "Shadow of a Vampire" (2000)  But all knew that particular year *Del Toro would take it for "Traffic"-(NOTE: But SAG voted him as leading actor?)

  2.    Yes, I just attempted to post this as a poll, but it just wouldn't work.  That's a fairly new feature on here, huh

Was just curious as to all fellow TCM-ITE'S all-time favorite motion picture-(or top ten?)

PLEASE REPLY & I THANK YOU  & that "poll" feature is mighty confusing, at least to me

If I was to choose basically one it would be-(actually 3) *"The Godfather (l90l-80) Trilogy"-(non-theatrical release)

But, I agree with most historians in the legendary "Citizen Kane"  (l94l-RKO) being the greatest

    THANX

It's currently sitting at a dismal 46% on Rotten Tomatoes. Although not hit with any new accusations, Allen is getting a lot of grief as part of the whole sexual misconduct crusade. Several writers and online social media activists have rekindled the molestation accusations against him, as well as harping on his marriage to Sun Yi. There have been multiple articles denouncing Allen, including a few from actors and actresses (including Ellen Page) that have appeared in his films. It seems that public sentiment, especially among younger viewers, has turned against Allen, possibly for good this time.

Lawrence, is that image of *Kingsley from "Sexy Beast?"

  4. WOIW, it looks pretty good though-(have you seen the trailer yet?)  & I rank *Winslet among the top 3 to 5 finest actresses today.

(P.S. Remember how *"The Chairman of the  Board: Sinatra"-(l9l5-l998) always denied having mob connections

Well, when he heard about the entire *woody & Sue Yi, he asked Mia Farrow if she wanted *Woody's legs broken!

Sounds like something out of his wonderful 1984 comedy "Broadway Danny Rose"

Ever see what Leonard Maltin calls his worst film 2005's "Anything Else" ($5m.) (*)???

    THANX AGAIN

It opens on Friday, which happens to be Allen's 81st birthday.

Knew you'd know this one pal.  But is that nationwide?   Not to correct you but he was born in '35

Do you have plans to go see this one?

(TRIVIA: I'm certain you'll know these *"Woodman" bits of trivia, whats his biggest $hit$

How many screenplay nods has he earned td & his own fav. film that he's made

(P.S. to bad they couldn't get him as a "GP"-("Guest Programmer")   1 & only time he appeared at the *Oscars was due to 9/11 in & for the 2001 ceremonies.

I do know the likely films he'd choose if he was ever a "GP"

"City Lights" "Duck Soup" "Kane" & "Treasure of the Sierra Madre"   OOPS, how could I leave out any film his A #1 idol made Bob Hope

    THANX PER USUAL

  6.   1ast of all  I like *Clooney, but he's only age 56 & is this years recipient of the AFI-(American Film Institute) annual Lifetime Achievement Award.

In the meantime *Duvall, *Hopkins & others have yet to be honored with the award, *Susan Sarandon also stands out

But looking at it's history many heavyweights were also snubbed, most notably-(NOTE: & unlike *Oscar, AFI's recipient must accept it in person, Obviously why some like Garbo, *Brando, *Kate Hepburn, etc were never award it)

I've been a lower-level member since 1992 & back then they sent-(actually around 2001 or so) lots of FREE stuff.

SINS OF OMISSION BY AFI:   (*-denotes Oscar)

*Chaplin, Cary Grant, *John Wayne, *Ingrid Bergman, etc & they waited too long in the case for Peter 0'Toole

Anyway my personal picks for "Essential *George Clooney"

"Good Night and Good Luck" (2005)-(perfect filmmaking!)

    "0ut of Sight" (l998)

"Oh, Brother Where Art Though?-(anyone on here knows that's from the fantastic 1942 "Sullivan's Travels"

& "The Perfect Storm" (2000)-(I got to ride past the sound stage while they ere filming this inside, at the tremendous Warner Bros. Tour in '99. His ever present basketball hoop was just outside. It's said to be the largest on the planet & they also shot "The 0ld Man and the Sea" (l958) inside, after first starting off the Cuban coast)

& he's been nommed 4 times to date for the *Academy Award-(AMPAS)

"Syriana"-(won s. actor) (2005) & was up for BD for "Good Night & Good Luck"

    "Michael Clayton" (2007)

    "Up in the Air" (2009)

& "The Descendants" (2012)-(most critics choose this as his finest work as an actor)

    THANK YOU

  7.    I already kinda' posted this one, just in case though  Has anyone seen & or heard of an official U.S. wide release date for *Woody Allen's latest project "Wonder Wheel' *Kate Winslet stars

Jakeem  seems to see some flix before the get a wide release, so please chime-in & to anyone else

    It's trailer looks good too

    THANK YOU

Why is it "obvious" that jakeem has seen The Post?

I couldn't remember who it was & then he write about it being good but not his favorite of the year

He must live in NY, LA or Chicago, because the rest have to wait until mid January      I'll never forget the year of *"Platoon" it wasn't even released nation wide until almost March of 1987

  9.     Again, Jakeem already touched on this topic.  He's on the cutting edge!

But does anybody have a forecast/prediction of the top winners for the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, to be announced tomorrow?

Some fellow *Oscar pundits said "Call Me By Your Name"   Personally, I have no prediction on these this year, especially after "The Post" swept the NBR  Awards.  I just stick with predicting the *"Golden Boy" & personally I've always liked forecasting the top nominees over  the final winners

(TRIVIA:" For the NYFCC in it's debut year of 1935 they voted for "The Informer" as Best Film-(where the *AMPAS of course went for *"Mutiny on the Bounty")

Ironically *Ford's "The Informer" swept more *Academy awards that year though overall with (4)

Many say-(including Peter Bogdanovich) that in his last years though *John Ford's appreciation of the RKO Radio production wasn't very good anymore?

& NY voted Charles Laughton as Best Actor for that film & "Ruggles of Red Gap"

Actress  Garbo in "Anna Karenina"-(for me personally at least NYFCC got it right w/this winner)

    THANX

  10.   To Jakeem, once again pal you did an outstanding job covering these!

Who agrees with the winners for the NBR-(National Board of Review Awards) announced this morning

Officially they are the oldest film awards only after *Oscar

New York Film Critics Circle started for 1935-(announced tomorrow)

I personally was surprised they went for it in such a big way though, with "Darkest Hour" "Dunkirk" "Shape of water" "Phantom Thread" & others

The National Board of Review today selected Steven Spielberg's drama "The Post" as its Best Picture of 2017. The movie is based on the controversial 1971 Pentagon Papers case, in which The Washington Post newspaper published government documents about the Vietnam War. The film stars Tom Hanks as the late Ben Bradlee -- executive editor of The Washington Post. Meryl Streep plays the late Katharine Graham, who was the newspaper's publisher. Bradlee also was portrayed by Jason Robards in "All the President's Men" -- the 1976 film about The Post's coverage of Watergate.

I couldn't recall which fellow TCM-ITE said he already got to see "The Post" & as it obviously turns out it was you buddy   As you know it's scheduled nation wide in January, so your way ahead of the pack  Which 2017 releases do you rate/like more though?  & were you also surprised it swept the NBR Awards?

    THANK YOU

director, Jordon Peele @Colbert/LateShow last night called it A documentary ;)

    (BTW, Loved it) :D

I saw "Get 0ut" a few weeks ago on cable & wanted to see what all the hoopla was about   It raked in about $175m.

Growing up with the likes of Serling & Hitch, it raises the bar though   For me it was mediocre (**)_ most of the picture & then, it went from that to worse (*1/2)  I think it really will lower the standards of the *Academy if it makes the BP race
