went to this too, like the superior GETTYSBURG in '93  Not nearly as memorable in my view, but still worth seeing You'd think one of the worlds best living actors ROBERT DUVALL woulda been perfect a Gen. lee, but fell & broke ribs during filming & doesn't seem into it On the contrary MAERTIN SHEEN was perfect as Lee

There was a third book LAST FULL MEASURE

THERE YA' GO!   Used to go to this-(only a buck then) just about everyday as a kid & JAWS

Most critics always rank AIRPORT (l970) the finest disaster epic of the '70's, but I barely like THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (l972) mainly due to HACKMAN'S dynamic performance!

as kids-(10 or so) we even used to act out the scenes from TI

Agreed.  It was also sort of a break out role for Gary Oldman; don't recall seeing it on t.v. at Halloween or any other time

It's been on cable a lot since, especially HBO, but left unspoken ALWAYS on HALLOWEEN & SCARY MOVIES?

You must be a Jerry Goldsmith fan. 😁 He is my favorite. The Mummy has a great soundtrack. I hear bits of The 13th Warrior, another Goldsmith.

Of all his tons of scores Goldsmith only took home one Academy Award for THE OMEN (l976) upsetting ROCKY in the process  Same with ELMER BERNSTEIN, even more-so, he goes further back & of all his works only won for of all things THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE?

    Alex North never won?

  5. Now-(despite the stupid & out of place huge storm at it's climax) Scorsese's l991 hit CAPE FEAR was very strong, but almost blew it   For yrs they had that boat at UNIVERSAL STUDIOS down here in 0rlando

Hollywood/The Academy only nommed it twice though for DE NIRO & J. LEWIS, it's cinematography shoulda been in there  It did hit $78m. I saw it with a pack & screaming audience

& THAT TREMENDOUS SCORE, adapted by E. Bernstein from B. Herrmann's

    Sound sooo much like HITCHCOCK

I also dislike the last sequence of the 1955 version. In fact I wish Lillian Gish's character was not in it at all. It feels like a phony tacked on ending to satisfy the production code, when I think it should have had a much darker, bleaker ending. It's a film that should clearly spell out what happens when children are not adequately provided for...

They were thinking on JANE DARWELL, but wanted a little lady instead vs him

  7. surprised they haven't also gave EASY RIDER a whack yet, among many? Only reason they aren't really jumping on the Western remake arena is because they don't seem to make $$$$ in this era???

Magnificent Seven a couple yrs ago was flat (**) but hit $90m.

& they obviously did do TRUE GRIT, which not as fun as WAYNE'S Oscar winner, I think exceptional It snagged about ten nods & made about $180m as well
