  1. I remember Gene & even Roger saying that like it was last week They were furious
  2. The 1950's was truly special & to me THE HONEYMOONERS-CLASSIC 39) (1955-56) (CBS) & THE LOST EPISODES OF THE HONEYMOONERS (l952-57) (CBS) Though tv movies/mini-series starting in the '70's are tremendous ala LONESOME DOVE,etc
  3. By far Tinsel-Town has covered THE WAR (WW11) the most of course I already cited my ranking just in my overall opinion of top ten war-cinema, below are my picks on WW2 *Schindler's List Saving Pvt. Ryan *From Here to Eternity The Great Escape & The Longest Day & a ton more
  4. To Sepiatone, that's exactly the point I tried to make with *GWTW Schindler & The Great Escape itself doesn't contain many battle scenes either Even Birth of a Nation had epic battle scenes in 1915 A HINT (11) HAVE WON TO DATE thanx
  5. Like with last yrs Roma never in 91yrs has a film taken both Best Film & Best Foreign Film
  6. It may win BD with the DGA, but right now I'll put my $dough$ n Sam Mendes for 1917 Within the last decade BP & BD have split 5 times though
  7. When I heard they were even making THE IRISHMAN & that Pacino had been cast as Jimmy Hoffa I immediately thought on is 9th nomination Ollywood would be dying to give Al a 2nd Academy Award, then the annual pre-Oscar awards started & most then went to Pesci & now obviously Pitt has the momentum, just goes to show you whats on paper is not the end,etc
  8. (TRIVIA: After All Quiet on the Western Front (l929-30) winning the Academy Award for Best Film how many outright war pix have also taken Hollywoods biggest prize & is Gone With the Wind a war movie?
  9. Know this was on a few nights back but had to say congrats to tcm for re-airing the long version/directors cut of Leone's masterful l984 gangster epic Once Upon a Time in America The chopped up version released in 1984 was 139 minutes, but his full version was 227 minutes, even l0onger then Gone With the wind I went to it that May & it makes no sense chopped up as they did & I think this hurt it's Oscar chances that year, not 1 single nom Especially for Ennio Morricone's all-time great score and a companion piece to his 1969 Once Upon a Time in the West music as well
  10. A mistake, this was meant for General instead
  11. I have not seen the Nielsen ratings for either show-(Jakeem probably posted the Golden Globe rating by now) but who caught either or both?
  12. Thank you, who saw either Breaker Morant or Gallipoli?
  13. He almost got political but kept it in
  14. It's asinine he has yet ton score an Oscar??? Especially for Shawshank...though I predicted that yr The Lion King (Hans Zimmer) would take it
  15. Star Trek, mainly due to Shatner's Captain Kirk
  16. (*-always denotes an AMPAS win) With 1917 snagging 10 nominations & it's close for BP Gold, what are a few of your other war flix? I'll initiate the thing 1. Apocalypse Now (l979) 2. *Schindler's List-(questioned if tis is really a war picture though?) 3. Saving Pvt Ryan (l998) 4, *The Deer Hunter (l978) 5th *Platoon (l986) 6. *From Here to Eternity (l953) 7. The Great Escape (l963) 8. Paths of Glory (l957) 9. The Longest Day *(l962) 10th ranking Battleground (l949) (Runners-Up): *Bridge on the River Kwai (l957) Glory (l989) & of course a ton more What are yours (TRIVIA: Don't know if it's still the record holder but 1980's superb Breaker Morant swept 8 of the Aussie Oscars)
  17. To Jake, is this a top 5 or 10 question or just our #1> My personal favorite to date is a tie between Ennio Morricone's 1969 0nce Upon a Time in the West and his 1984 Once Upon a Time in America (directors cut) Sure you have seen how AFI American Film Institute voted in the non televised survey & concert 1 Star Wars (l977) (J. Williams) lead barely over GWTW (Max Steiner)
  18. Don't knowif it's good or a bad idea but Spielberg's huge remake opens next summer
  19. AFI in 2006 special survey from The Hollywood Bowl & with John Williams conducting voted Robin Hood all-time #11th greatest score
  20. & so far-(momentum with the Academy awards can change quickly) this stands to take home statuettes for Pitt, 0, Screenplay and Production Design
  21. I agree Trevor Jones pounding score was very strong He also had an even more powerful score for 1985's RUNAWAY TRAIN
