they're running Gypsy this month on movies! whatta horrible film. rosalind russell at her most obnoxious. she is so obnoxious in this movie she makes rosemary the schoolteacher look like greer garson.
there's this one scene where someone insults her and karl malden who plays some schtootz named herbie (he wants to mary her!) comes to her defense to defend her honor and virtue. afterwards russell stomps over to this poor deluded wretch, wraps her arms around his head and delivers one great big rough brutal smooch and this was supposed to charm the audience??? the guy is a mental case. why not marry a nest of hornets.

oh, last not movies! showed Robin and the seven hoods. I actually watched it. some of the most lame musical numbers I ever sat through. you got this one number with frank, bing and dean singing about class. awful! I'd rather sit through russ tamblyn and the yawning man ten times rather than that again.

femme fatale a lovely Barbara rush puts the screws to them and they wind up closing the film as sidewalk santy clauses. bing crosby wasn't too bad with his orphanage do-badder routine. one of the kids is manuel padilla jr. who would go on to play jai on tarzan.

I'm not worried about Meryl Streep overstepping in her role. She looks perfectly restrained in the scenes from the trailer. I'm sure she's smart enough to recognize that Saoirse Ronan could be on her way to becoming her generation's "Meryl Streep" and that she (Streep) would meet her match in any "contest" the two might have. My feeling is that Greta Gerwig chose the project as a way of working with Ronan again, as well as with some of the other most formidable young actors around. And I've never not liked Laura Dern, so I expect to like her Marmee as well. If it's good, it's good; I don't care how many times the story has been filmed.

not only the worlds greatest living actress, but my candidate as the best of all-time too!   Back in the '80's John Cazale triold friends e knew this girl she was the worlds greatest actress, etc

Guess you'll have to watch it and find out.

Incidentally, this thread was inspired by an article I read this past week in USA Today. It mentioned the LITTLE WOMEN remake as well as an upcoming remake of CALL OF THE WILD, which will hit screens early next year.

CALL OF THE WILD was first made by 20th Century Pictures in 1935, starring Clark Gable as Jack Thornton. The story was remade in the 70s with Charlton Heston in the role (renamed John Thornton). Now Fox/Disney is redoing it with Harrison Ford.

Harrison Ford and the dogs are scheduled to hit screens on the 21st of February.

And he has yet another Indy release

I'm looking forward to the latest remake of LITTLE WOMEN. Mainly because Streep is doing a character role as the crotchety old aunt of the March sisters.

It will hit screens on Christmas Day.

    Here's the trailer:

Anyone else eager to see the new version...?

To TopBilled, are you gonna see it?  I personally rate the 1994 WINONA version best  & with a marvelous sc0re by Thomas Newman, same yr he also did SHAWSHANK...
