I recently watched STAGECOACH, and in the commentary I learned that Orson Welles watched it forty times before making CITIZEN KANE. He said that his favorite directors were "the old masters -- John Ford, John Ford, and John Ford."

In that vein, my three favorite male actors are Orson Welles, Orson Welles, and Orson Welles.

Oscars Debating Whether or Not to Have Host

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and broadcaster ABC are currently exploring a compromise solution

    9:27 PM · Dec 18, 2019·WordPress.com

Jakeem, Isee Feinberg is up to  his old tricks buddy   Copying others for the most pt  Don't know if you happen to see my analysis of my fellow Oscar pundit & how long I've known him  17yrs to date. It's fair &in our unwritten rules to copy others & revise up until that week-(7 days prior the official nods is the norm)   I'd like to challenge him again, we somewhat do in goldderby.com's annual contest, then-(don't if he also enters the biggie of all now that Variety stopped it's Oscar-Oracle Award) which is the official abc.com Oscars site, so we shall see right  I kinda have always enjoyed forecasting the nomations vs. actualwinners it's more difficult (NOTE: Positive your aware of this & it's been awhile but the letters are being eaten again in these forums)

  4. Elvis made (32 films)  Sinatra (58) &not certain yet about Bing & Presley was a Navajo Indian, Frank was Sicilian & Bing was actually Canadian.\\\<took u= some morein facts/predix a sec.  Just for fun plan to also pred8ct the Golden Globe Winners & SAG as well  Hope others        O have rarely if ever in 37yrs attempted t have a field goal pred8ctthe Globes, etc  In my opinion closest Oscar races this year are between

Yop boyes Yopbrrns & Jakeem arethe finest  guys on these boards!!!

    Now it's 2000.

Movie with the most nominations: Gladiator (12)

Movie with the most awards: Gladiator (5)

My choice for the most nominations:  Requiem for a Dream (13)

My choice for the most awards:  Requiem for a Dream (4-Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Original Score, Sound)

Did the actual Best Picture winner get anything: No

Skimpole, your a fellow fan of GLADIATOR (2000) huh?   Please post more on it & your fav films, etc  I predicted it would sweep that year but the verygood Traffic ($124m. ) got in it's way to win more it deserved?  Especially Best Director (Ridley Scott)& editing.

Howeve4, ever see Crowe in The Insider?   Or Romer Stomper?

  6. Most probably & or know of tv's superb series The Sopranos=-(l999-2007) well some cast members told of their idols, fav movies & more & on many fronts  Creator DavidChase idolized Cagney above all and Public Enemy had been his favorite film his entire life. As for star James Gandolfini-(l961-2013)his hero was Bogart, & Paulie Walnutsactor also always idolized James Cagney

Virginia Mayo-(l920-2005) was on the money in a tcm interview, during The Studio-System  Hollywood would never give an Oscar to a Gangster Role-(speaking of Cagney as Cody Jarrett in White Heat) Plus, during that era he always had to die by the finish\

As for Cagney himself personally he was bored portraying bad guys& loved dancing by far. It was his idea to make Cody nuts in WH otherwise he considered it another hack job   Only it's script made the cut come Oscar nominee time, same goes for Little Caesar &Public Enemy

Speaking of Organized Crime & Hollywood  Joey Gallo-(died in '71) he literally based his entire life & persona on Richard Widmark (Tommy Udo( in 1947's Kiss of Death, right down to his own wardrobe

& the infamous Bugsy Siegel-(l906-l947) wanted into acting in Tinsel-Town, even getting a screen test His closest pal & actorGeorge Raft895-l980) was the only person to attend his 1947 funeral at Hollywood Forever, ****-*it borders Paramount)  Raft's was also the only  Cagney called eventougherthen him  when the two started out in NYC's Hell;s Kitchen

Holiday film wise, I’d have to go with Bing. I’ve watched “White Christmas” three times this season. I need to watch “Holiday Inn.”

Movie wise, I’d probably go with Elvis because I love “Viva Las Vegas” so much.

Music-Wise, I’d go with Frank because I like his singing and music the best.

It gets confusing for non moviebuffs in that the title song won the Oscar, but for Hoiday Inn & not 1954's White Christmas

DARN IT, these words are being eaten up again ATTENTIINto the editors!!!

  8. Dig this garbage  they even plan to git ridof the famed RKO GLOBE on the corner of Gower &  Melrose & nowadays has been 1/2 of Paramount Pictures  The original RKO Studios-(l929--l960) shared the lot with that famous studio Dream Factory  They try not to tell tourists visiting on the Paramount tour about Kong & Kane & Fred & Ginger, etc but if your on the lot &step over a crack you go back in time architecture wise t the 1930's & Joseph Kennedy-\(1886-l969) opened the studio in '29 ^ had that globe installed.

On all three trips I got lucky &stayed in exact same motel a stone's throw away

& also very close was The Ravenswood Ats So massive they can be seen from way up at Griffith Park 0bservatory, due to it's ultra red lights  Mae West-(l893-l980) lived there 48rs & also passed away there

  9. Thanks for writing about this unknown topic I did a couple of times & I just keep thinking I visited whats left of M-G-M now only 40 acres & Sony vs Metro at it's pinnacle & was The NY Yankees of The Studio-System(circa 1925-60)

Kirk Kirkorian in '69 being only a buisman & now a film buff like a Ted Turner auction off the lot of Andy Hardy, Wizard of 0z, Singin In The Rain, Meet Me in St. Louis & a ton more of motion picture history  Debbie Reynolds tried to tell Kirkorian he;d have another 'iseyland if he wanted but he didn't, so  bought as much as she could  for her Vegas show

So most people may not even know that Sony also in Culver City was MGM.   But, for now the legendary Thalberg Bldg remains

The 40 is in regard to just down the street Selznicks old Culver City Studios-(which has no tours)  & Lucy bought out his back 40 acres at one time. Tons of classics were filmed at Culver City studios-(Thomas Ince Blvd) is just outside*GWTW-(they say you can still view the façade of the mansion from the frt gates) Duel in the Sun,  (NOTE: To editing team words are being eatin again!)

A few ohers filmed at Culver> Citizen Kane, Kong (l933 version   matter of fact Selznick used it's wall for burning of Atlanta sequence in 0ctober of 1938)  Notorious, Rebecca, Spellbound, Since You went away ('36 version) Little Lord Flauntleroy, Portrait of Jennie,  Bugsy,

Raging Bull, A Few Good Men, Beetlejuice,  The Rock, Legally Blonde & many more recent flix & for tv I  love Lucy, Andy Griffith, The Untouchables, Star Trek, Superman-(& at RKO), Game Shows, etc

David0. Selznick's final yrs were not great for the mogul, highly addicted to drugs by then  A habit he picked up filmingGone With the Wind  He got addicted to speed BIG-0TIME & only lived to b 63 in 1965  Lucy always bragged about moving into his office & the back 40 acres she got from him

Yeah I know I posted this one previously, but thought a new perspective on it would be cool  plus I thought of it this time due to Christmas & all three did a lot-(in Bing's case) of Christmas  music

Of course most that know me easily vote for The Chairman of the Board of all counts & Frank never even took an acting lesson either

There is sooo much on him available ion the net for one check out his last interview in '88 with Larry King-(l933-)it's so long it's in several parts

And Hollywood/AMPAS really missed the boat for 1954 when they overlooked him in Suddenly (***1/2) he woulda eventually then had 3 noms  Plus ironically it would have pitted him against Bing Crosby in The Country Girl   Neither had a chance though that year vs Marlon as Terry Malloy in waterfront  A role Sinatra really pushed hard for, among the reasons it was shot in his hometown of Hoboken, NJ

    Thank You for logging in

(TRIVIA: What 3 songs/,films he sang won the Oscar, though like Madonna yrs later he didn'y personally won for them because he didn't also write the three???)

  12. I've been handicapping the Academy Awards this marking my 38 th year actually & again this may be-(NOT A FINAL PREDICTION)

Where once again Best Picture and Best Director split?

Meaning The Irishman may take the biggie & Parasite Best Direction of the Year?

In the last decade they have split 4 times, something that rarely occurred in the old days

Steve, once again you dug up something special pal,  I was way ahead of the crowd in regard to thinking Blade Runner was something special in the great cinematic year of l982  I  was only 17 to 18 that yr my debut  year going to 36-60 new movies & oddsmaking UNCLE OSCAR. I must admit I did pretty lousy predicting them though that yr. But I gave ten new flix 4 stars for '82   E.T., Tootsie, The Verdict, Sophie's Choice, Das Boot, Diner, Blade Runner, Garp, Richard Pryor Live on the Sunset Strip & The Road warrior & almost wit h the 8 time sweeping bio Gandhi  Now, you rarely find 1 new release excellent.  Question, how did you come o pick that sequence vs Tears in the Rain with the now already late Rutger Hauer, in what shoulda been an Oscar nominated role  That glorious score by Vangelis, Art-Direction & Visuals deserved to win in my humble opinion. It only grossed $33m domestically & I know there are fans of the recent Blade Runner 2049 (**) but I;m not one of them, especially compared to that original   At any rate thanx again & see page 8 or 9
