  1. TCMprincess, and other illustrious TCM Fans,

I, as a devoted classic movie fan, actually wrote outraged letters to AMC. You see, in some cable subscription circles, AMC was the only classic movie forum we had, with the occasional bright spot that TCM gave us with free preview weekends.( and by the way, is there really such a thing as women's entertainment- what the heck is that? but I digress) They used to be Classic movies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The oldsters like you and me remember the days before they butchered the channel.

Here is what the bright boys and girls at AMC had to say in reply to all the letters that I and my family sent to them. They are not commercials. They are interstitials. It is a biological term that means literally "between the cells". Cells. hah. They think they're making a play on words for movie buffs. Anyway. The truth is, AMC was purchased , taken over, or pirated, whatever term you choose, by Rainbow Enterprises. People that own Fox News networks, and more. You can find them on the net.

They are dedicated to taking the term Classic to new lows.

If people dont stand up for what they want, they're bound to get run over. In my opinion, everyone here that uses these forums and wants to keep their precious movies in heart and view, should stay informed and try to make a difference with these big conglomerations that try to tell us how to think, what to hear , and what to see.

Could you imagine what TCM would be if that same company, or one like it took over our beloved channel?

Thought for the day. Have a good one!

  3. Hello all-

Did any other fans notice that the Ms B.Davis vehicle " The Little Foxes" is now the basis for an opera entitled "Regina"?

Opera's all about passion and fire and tragedy and backstabbing machinations- I love it that someone took this incredible story and gave us another way to see it.

  4. A belated Amen to the remarks on the remake of Cheaper by the Dozen. Own the books, loved the original ( what- in the age of technology we can no longer follow the lines of a family biography?). Even my 17 year old daughter is disappointed at the thought that the remake couldn't do justice to a family we think of as a little like our own since we have 10 children and various and sundry grandchildren about.

Glad my children are aware of movie originals- hope everyone else out there is making their families aware of how many "new" movies are rehashes of older stories... most of the time chewing the story to pieces til it is almost unpalatable.

  5. I recently read "Ava, My Story". I didn't notice anything about Lena, but one thing I did notice in there was the remarkable relationships she had with the men in her life, and the things she put up with.

At one juncture she had a row with George C Scott, she was hit, and had an eye injury that detached her retina and more.

Personally, every time I see Mr. Old George C, I get irritated and tell my kiddos or anyone else who happens to be in the room what I read about the ol' S.O.B.

To be fair, I also tell them that he's a fine actor, and that perhaps it was an aberration in behavior, but that the actors we see on screen are people with lives far outside the roles they portray. Who knows.. maybe it's a good lesson..

but I've still not liked him since
