I think the English express their anger more viciously, such as Olivier, Hopkins, or O'Toole. When they holler I actually believe them. There is such force in their delivery.
What American actors come to mind?

I'm not a fan of this film either. Kazan is my favorite director, but ...
I was looking forward to seeing it based on ratings and awards, etc., but it was a bit over the top for me. I love all his work, except this one.

Thanks for the info. I already have both, but I was exposed to them completely by accident -- not a movie channel. I'm happy to tape them versus buying DVDs, etc., but I just wonder how many other great films I'll miss because of limited distribution. Dini

Does anyone know why some titles seem to never air on any movie channel? For example, I have never seen Great Expectations (Jean Simmons, John Mills, Alec Guiness) scheduled on any channel, ever. Yet it is one of David Lean's great ones. Or Brief Encounter, also by David Lean? Or have I just missed them?
Many thanks,

If anyone sees All About Eve on any channel (w/o commercials), please post. I have been trying to catch this film for quite a while. (I enjoy George Sanders' role ... he's such a good bad-guy!)

Now that one is easy ... Casablanca. One of the many fine zingers Capt. Renault (Rains) delivered in that picture.

P.S. I'm glad I found this forum!

Thanks for the info. I was way off base ... Mason would have been great in that role!
BTW, I heard that James Mason was not the first choice for A Star Is Born -- but he was the first to accept the job opposite Garland after her bad run prior to that movie. Does anyone know who turned down the role?

Coffeedan,
Wasn't it Rock Hudson?? I remember during Fox Production Notes that it was someone I could not imagine in the role.
I'm new to this board, when do you post your answers?

I agree with bansi4. It demonstrates the wide variety of personalities that have been influenced by Kate. Actually, it made me think of Cher in a different way, how she "grounds" herself with Hepburn movies while she travels. It is the contrast of Kate and Cher that delivers the stronger statement, although I consider them equally strong women in their own beliefs (even though it is Kate I most admire).

This thread was great until the previous six posts that got way off track.... I'd like to get back on track with my five least favorite actors. I agree with many of the ones already posted, such as:
1. Victor Mature (yep, butt-ugly!)
2. George Brent (blah, dry toast)
3. Jeff Chandler (burnt toast)
4. Robert Montgomery (Mr. Magoo)
5. Glenn Ford (don't get his appeal at all)
For me, they had no screen charisma. Van Johnson has shown up on this list a lot; he's borderline, but not as bad as Van Heflin. Where did that name, Van, come from anyway??
Now I can hardly believe seeing Garbo, Brando, Bogart on this list! I know, it's all a matter of preference, but have the anti-Brando folks seen him in Last Tango during the visit with his dead wife? The body language and depth of emotion displayed in those few minutes ... is breath-taking. And Bogie was really funny and sweet in African Queen, and even in The Maltese Falcon. Anyway, I found everyone's comments interesting and crazy-funny and enjoyed reading all the pages.
Hope to see more posts on this subject.
