Why the Dislike of the 70's and Beyond?
sweetbabykmd replied to Ipcress's topic in General Discussions
I have to disagree with you allieharding, if any movies were made for a "simpler" audience it would be the movies of today. Where is the metaphor and symbolism in Jackass II and Big Momma's House? -
Please bring back the weekly genre themed features!!!

With all the changes nothing surprises me anymore. -
In my opinion the lesser of those two evils would be Marilyn.

I notice there is another fashion designer for guest programmer this month. What is the association between TCM and the fashion industry (Hermes, Ford, Mizrahi)?
-
I agree with you there, I don't care for the 5am slot here on the west coast. I see Darkness After Dawn is gone after September though, which is not a good sign.

Pert Kelton was a great tough babe.

Well isn't that just the icing on the cake? We got one film noir a week and they took that away? And Syncopation Station? That was one of my favorites as well. -
You and Fred are right stoneyburke. This place hasn't been the same starting with the anime.

Great site, I love the focus on old movies through 1955, right up my alley.

Although I don't pay much attention to Debbie Reynolds I really love Singing In the Rain and I think she did a great job with it. My favorite number is "Good Morning" which I sing to my youngest daughter almost every morning to get her out of bed, which irritates the heck out of her.

10 Films That Everyone Loves But You Don't
sweetbabykmd replied to SalMarz's topic in General Discussions
It has gotten to the point that if anyone makes a comment or gives an opinion that differs from "that group" it is called an insult or you are regarded as ignorant for thinking such a thing. -
> sweetbabykmd, isn't it funny how a little > notoriety and an emphasis on flash rather than > content changes (or brings out the real) people? > > I now find both Rachel Ray and Paula Deen > insufferable. Sorry it took me 6 months to reply to you stoneyburke. I can't stand listening to Rachel Ray anymore, she's over the top, and now Paula Deen has sold out.

What is the best recent film you have seen?
sweetbabykmd replied to BlackandWhiteCharm's topic in General Discussions
I agree, Girl With a Pearl Earring was a beautiful movie. -
You're right mrsl, this one is a must-see. I was able to catch it last month and really enjoyed it.

I'm glad I have FMC in my basic package. Although they do focus on the awful mainstream movies afternoons and evenings, they do still show some great old classics in the mornings, movies that we won't see on TCM. You do have to remember to immediately turn down the sound or change the channel as soon as the classic movie is over and it's time to start showing the modern crap, because the volume goes way up when that stuff comes on.

That is because he can't call anyone that, for he holds the title.
-
I think you need to direct that to him. It is obvious he is not presenting a different view, he is being condescending.

You pompous a**. I don't need an idiot like you to explain anything. I am tired of your long drawn out posts, some which border on sickening when you kiss TCM's ****. I am frequently embarrassed for you. Leave me alone, find another thread where the subject is to your liking. Fred started this thread and I happen to agree with what he says. The cutesy emoticons need to go too. I do apologize to the others for getting nasty but that guy really boils my blood, which is what he wanted.

Good one NortBanba. I think there would be a few people on here that wouldn't know what to do with themselves if that happened.
-
No of course I don't. It has gotten to the point where I rarely even watch TCM in the evenings when I am home because all the good stuff is on during the day or in the middle of the night and must be recorded in order to see. I have discussed this topic many times and don't feel like I need to explain to you why it upsets me that TCM takes away the prime time slots for the "new and improved" programming.
-
No it is showing fewer classic movies in order to insert everything else that is not classic movies.
-
All me? No it is not all me. Many others feel the same way I do. TCM is the channel we turn to for the old classics, that is what the C stands for.

I am one who complains when TCM strays, and yes it is straying from classic movies, but I am not ungrateful. I do not watch tv. There is nothing but swill out there as someone else put it. TCM is the only tv that I watch, so it sickens me when they take away my classic movies to show talk shows, modern shorts, etc. I don't know how you can say we are ungrateful, we are just **** off. Hell, the only reason I pay for cable is so I can see TCM, so you can be sure I am going to complain when I see my old movies replaced with some of this baloney.

> > Isn't it generally the position of advertisers to > convince us that we want what they have? Why can't > TCM advertise more aggressively in non-classic movie > markets, to attract viewers who haven't seen classics > before, rather than trying to attract those people > something other than classic movies. That makes no > sense to me. The whole country is falling into that > dumbing-down mode. I don't want to go there. If TCM > is a classic movie station, why is it trying to show > us oranges, when we want to see apples? When new > viewers tune in to see the classics, why show them > something they can see anywhere else? Isn't there > anyone left in the entertainment industry who is > willing to lead, and set a standard? This is what I have been wondering. pktrekgirl my boyfriend has been recording like mad as well so we will be able to watch the good movies when TCM becomes unwatchable, or barely watchable.

Those sound great, pre-codes are my favorite genre. My favorite is Bed of Roses with Constance Bennett and Pert Kelton.
