  1. I happen to love the hair and makeup from the 30's and 40's, and some 50's. I am learning to do my hair in the 40's style rolls. I am also buying vintage 30's and 40's clothing and would love to dress vintage all the time. I found a cosmetic company that sells vintage style makeup - Besame Cosmetics. I think everyone looked classier back then.
  2. I just watched Scarlett Street a couple weeks ago - great movie.
  3. One of my favorite movies of hers is Bed of Roses, she and Pert Kelton are a riot.
  4. Yes, it is helpful. But I still wish there was something to tell us if TCM actually carries the movie or not.
  5. I still don't understand how to tell if TCM carries a movie in their library. Just because a movie shows up in the database doesn't mean TCM has it right? I am looking for The Powers Girl (1943). Does anyone know if TCM has ever shown this?
  6. I don't usually care for Tony Randall but I really liked this movie, we recorded this one last time it was on Fox.
  7. My fiance has a collection of almost 1000 DVDs mostly recorded from TCM but some purchased, and everything is in an Excel document. You can sort by year, title, actor/actress, genre, production company, or director, maybe more. All the movies are filed by number so it is easy to retrieve whatever movie you want to watch.
  8. Did anyone catch the name of the short just on this morning right after Midnight Kiss? It was a musical dental office number.
  9. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, that is what makes forums interesting. I am not old (well, maybe you think 39 is old) and I don't think anything worthwhile came out of the 70's and beyond - with a very few exceptions of course. I happen to believe that a bad movie from the 30's or 40's is not as bad as a bad movie from the 60's and beyond, there are others who think the opposite. I will continue to holler when I don't get my fix of pre-codes and film noirs.
  10. Fred I always enjoy reading your posts, especially when you share some of your life experiences with us.... I agree Grapes of Wrath is depressing, and for me Midnight Cowboy is too.
  11. It is nice to finally see some movies from the 30's being shown on a Friday night! Is there some kind of rule against showing the pre-codes during prime time?
  12. I have to agree with you there.
  13. "They could show The Kentuckian, Bigger Than Life, King Creole and Face in the Crowd of Mr. Matthau's and never leave the 1950's... " They could do that, but they never would. Somebody there is really in love with Bad News Bears and Plaza Suite.
  14. It is unfortunate that stars from Hollywood's golden age are overlooked, but 70's actors like Robert Duvall and Walter Matthau are given a day during Summer Under the Stars. Message was edited by: sweetbabykmd
  15. Almost anything is better than Doris Day IMO. I think we get quite enough of her as it is.
  16. > Oh Karl Malden's great, and this is certainly a great > chunk of a role for him to chew up. I just end up so > confused when Mr. Williams gets translated to the > screen. For instance, can you tell me if Baby Doll > had sex with Silva (was that his name) or not? I can > make a case that of course they did, but then - oh > it's confusing! What do you think? Maybe I'm just too > unsophisticated but I find this kind of plot > murkiness very annoying. Are we supposed to not know > if they had sex or not? Is it supposed to be left up > in the air? I think it is supposed to be left up in the air, but I don't think they did it. I don't think Baby Doll would give it up, even to Silva.
  17. Well, I think they ought to work on getting the rights to those movies - instead of Sonny and Cher and anime for the love of Pete.
  18. Most overrated movie? Anything with Walter Matthau. TCM seems to just love him though.
  19. Too many people think GWTW was meant to be a history lesson, which it was not, it was a movie based on a book which was fiction. It happens to be my all time favorite movie.
  20. I happen to love this movie. Karl Malden is hilarious.
  21. Thanks nyoka1, we sure don't get anything on Clara Bow from TCM.
  22. Although I'm not a fan of June Allyson, I am very glad they are replacing the junk that was originally going to be shown tomorrow with her movies.
  23. I wouldn't mind so much if they waited until then.....
  24. I would also like to see more film noir. Once a week at 5am is not enough.
