  1. "Oh... i don't even own an Ipod and hate gum. And yes, my school does have a film class and the local college does too, but if its like anything that they show on tmc that that discurages me from taking it. I say that they sould make some changes and start to modernize their line-up." It's called Turner Classic Movies. If you don't like the classic movies you need to watch the other hundred or so channels that cater to your tastes.
  2. Memoirs of a Geisha and Good Night and Good Luck. I enjoyed both movies, rented them from Netflix. I don't go to the theaters anymore either.
  3. Stoneyburke some of us look forward to your outbursts.
  4. TCM does show pan and scan movies now and then.
  5. "There'd be even more trains." I'm with you on this, it is a pity the train system has just about disappeared.
  6. My vote would be no, TCM already did this. Try Cartoon Network or AMC.
  7. I would like to see TCM focus on getting all the old movies from the 20's and 30's into their library. A prime example is all those 50 or so Clara Bow movies, I think TCM has shown 2 of them. They need to forget about getting the modern movies that we can all see on DVD or other cable channels and put their money into getting those movies that no one gets to see anymore.
  8. Thanks Fred, I've been waiting for this one and plan on recording it.
  9. Larry you couldn't have said it any better. I wonder what his homely daughter will do with all those extra millions? As for Linda Evans, I always thought she and Bo Derek were the same man in drag.
  10. lzcutter do you work for TCM in some capacity? You seem to know a lot of their inside business.
  11. daddysprimadonna I wholeheartedly agree with you. Others say that movies from the 70's and 80's are now classic, but that is just not true. There are maybe a handful of decent movies from those years but they can all be seen on other channels and are on DVD or VHS. TCM is our only source for the good old movies from the 20's to 50's many of which are not available on VHS or DVD.
  12. I know TCM can't please everyone, and just because Bill Holden had a day last year isn't enough for me, I'm sure many of this year's stars were part of last year's programming anyways. I just think TCM gives Matthau and Day more airtime than they deserve, since they really are not the best actors.
  13. That's because I only mentioned those who could have been left out of the August lineup. I'll bet you are beside yourself in anticipation of The Wiz which is coming up in July.
  14. I guess they had to give a day to Walter Matthau so they could show Bad News Bears and that awful Plaza Suite yet again. Once again someone more deserving of a tribute such as Bill Holden doesn't get a day in Summer Under the Stars. Walter Matthau? Doris Day? David Niven? Lee Marvin? Give me a break.
  15. I would choose Sinatra over Bing, and I have never cared for Elvis.
  16. I'm with Stoneyburke. You are not alone in noticing that TCM "feels" different. I don't care how many times someone brings up a schedule from the past, it is not what it was. I too am recording all the good movies, and when they decide to show even fewer classic movies I won't need cable anymore.
  17. Have to agree with you there. I always wonder how she got so popular, I can't stand her.
  18. I'm wondering if you counted by decade as well? I'll wager that many of those 83 movies were between 1960 and 69. Currently it really does seem like TCM is showing more modern movies because they now fill most of the prime time slots with them, where in the past they must have shown them during sleeping hours. I used to turn on TCM and could leave it on all day and nothing but classic old mostly black and white movies would be on all day. In the last 2 years I have not been able to do that.
  19. No, it is not. Nor is Karate Kid or Mask but they like to show us this drek instead of the old classics that we come here for.
  20. Unfortunately someone at TCM really likes this movie so they show it regularly now.
  21. I think it has already started. Just look at any given Friday night on TCM. Tomorrow night's schedule isn't as bad as they have been, but we do get Hook again.
  22. I am one who does not give a hoot about the personal lives of the movie stars, that is why I won't be watching the Dick Cavett shows when TCM starts that up. I prefer to remember the stars as they were in their prime, not 100 years old talking about their latest hip replacement.
  23. "To imply that TCM can maintain their original mission by chipping away at the 24 hour programming is ridiculous. But hey, someone will come here with a 'TCM still shows 234.7 b/w films a month' and all will be okay." You are exactly right stoneyburke. Soon they will say "what are you complaining about? TCM still shows the "gold mold" between midnight and 6am!".
