Who has totally destroyed ......
sweetbabykmd replied to katyscar11ett's topic in Information, Please!
scarlett I'm with you, I think it is a poor rendition of the song and the guy singing (if you can call it that) has an irritating voice. I'll be glad when that's over, even though I have enjoyed the Divorce Remorse Tuesdays. -
I just got mine and it is hilarious.

I think she was all right as a big band singer, but I have never cared for any of her movies, with the exception of Julie. I especially can't stand Glass Bottom Boat. I never understood why they tried to turn her into a glamour girl, she always looked too old to pull it off - that's just my opinion.

"The thing that intriques me with you and others who like to rant about the problems of TCM is that it seems like it is okay for you guys to criticize TCM, the programmers, and those of us who don't agree with your premise but you guys don't like to be criticized yourselves very often." For the record I don't criticize the baglappers until they start in on me. I do agree with constarkel that those that did the challenge did a great job, there are very few modern movies and many movies that TCM rarely shows, and lots of precodes - the types of movies that are always shown in the middle of the night instead of primetime, so we have to record them if we want to see them. And no one repeated the same movie within the week.

Some of us don't have the kind of time on our hands it takes to participate in the programming challenge, but I don't think we should be banned from making comments that you happen to disagree with because of this. Sure the programmer's job may be difficult, but TCM has a vast library to work with. Besides, who made you the message board god?

if you could get TCM to show 1 Movie, What would it be??

The World of Suzie Wong (1961) with William Holden. I don't think TCM has ever shown this one. -
> Plus, it's really easy to criticize someone's job > from afar. I think one of the overwhelming > discoveries by those of us who took the challenge is > how difficult it is to program one week, let alone a > full month, let alone three months out. You're forgetting that the programmers are getting paid the big bucks to provide us with quality programming we expect on TCM. I will criticize all I want, take tonight for example - Charly and Awakenings - what a couple of snoozers! I do have to say March has been one of the better months of late, lots of precodes. But when we get the likes of Benji, Plaza Suite, Divorce American Style, etc. I have to complain.

What about Joan Blondell in Footlight Parade (1933)?
-
What about the excellent performance by the fly on Anthony Perkins' hand at the end of Psycho?
-
Someone at TCM must have a thing for Robin Williams. I for one have grown tired of his overly animated and gay/transvestite roles.
-
I love the One Reel Wonders!
-
I know it is, but I wish they would show it at night instead. It's a waste of a good theme.
-
I am also glad that TCM decided to do a Film Noir theme in March, but why at 8am on Saturdays? That's 5am for me, and besides those films should be shown at night.
-
I would think TCM would think twice about showing those kinds of movies at primetime, it probably scares potential new viewers away rather than gaining them. Tuesday and Wednesday nights schedules were more representative of why one tunes into TCM.
-
I tried watching each of those movies, and they were just awful. Especially that last one, it looked like a soap opera with the harsh lighting, and they didn't even try to make it look like the '30's with the 50's hairdo's etc.
-
That sounds interesting, I wish I was home right now to watch it. I wonder if this will be on again soon?
-
This sounded too good so I searched and found a place that sells the Dogville shorts on DVD: http://www.matsune.com/wbc/worldsbestweb/tvvideo.htm

Constarkel - I agree with what you state. I too am pleased with the schedule lately - lots of movies from the 30's. I just love the 30's, my fiance and I are planning a 30's themed wedding on the Queen Mary.

Can't stand: Demi Moore Melanie Griffith Jennifer Tilly and Rachel Ray on the Foodnetwork is starting to sound more and more like Brenda Vacarro
-
Then you end up going to the hospital for some emergency surgery and your doctor ends up being Groucho Marx, and the nurse is Louise Fletcher.....

The TCM Programming Challenge

I agree with you Fred! -
I remember seeing this in the theaters and on Wonderful World of Disney in the early to mid 70's when I was a kid.
