I think Constarkel's point was that the modern movies they choose to show us are always movies that are available for rent somewhere, or even for free at your local library. Many or most of the older movies are not available anywhere, so we turn to TCM to watch or record.

Sorry, I've searched hither and yon for comments on those types of actors with no luck, but lots of nice things to read about the great ones.
-
Bravo has definitely gone down the tubes.
-
I'm still wondering why I'm seeing names like Ashton Kutcher or Pauly Shore being mentioned on a TCM birthday list. I guess if they were ever in a movie they will get a mention?
-
Leo, I agree with what you state. He was great in "The Best Years of Our Lives" among others.
-
Thanks Kyle. You were not responsible for the boiling blood. I know exactly what you mean about the Bravo channel. My fiance actually lobbied his cable company to provide the Bravo channel years ago, and now it is NEVER watched. As for the Thursday night anime, my daughters (one of which loves anime) only looked at it for a couple of minutes, and that was it, channel was changed back to Disney Channel.

You are right about the "man dressing up as a woman" theme, that is why I didn't care much for Tootsie, it has been done enough already. I did love Some Like It Hot though.
-
I would have to choose A Streetcar Named Desire. That movie cracks me up in parts, plus Brando is quite yummy and I also love Vivian Leigh.
-
This is your lucky month, as TCM is showing Back To The Future on the 18th.
-
Gosh I remember seeing that movie as a child, it was disturbing to me so I never forgot it.
-
Well that is sad news indeed. I guess I will have to get myself a copy from some shiester on Ebay.
-
When did Tootsie become an "indisputable classic"?
-
Oh dear. First of all the word trash came from the statement "one man's trash is another man's treasure". I would not normally use that word to describe those movies which I find undeserving of TCM, and I DID NOT decide this based upon how new those movies are. I do enjoy some modern movies, but I would never want to have TCM show them because they do not belong here, as TCM was originally a station that showed only classic older movies that one would not find all over the other channels. I know, the next person is going to tell me to change the channel - well guess what - I have to do that way too frequently nowdays, and that is what my beef is.
-
Those movies are of no use and no value to me. They do not belong on TCM, I don't care if it's Oscar month, there are thousands of deserving movies that should have been shown in their places. This is my opinion and I am entitled to state it. Like I said earlier, if some of you are offended please go start a "we love everything TCM shows" thread.
-
Still waiting for The Glass Key (1942) with Veronica Lake. Why doesn't TCM ever show this one?
-
I'm sorry that you find it appalling that I didn't know whether you are male or female. I don't understand why it is ok for you to not like Jeanette MacDonald and say so and not for me to say that I don't like the modern movies. I have never said TCM sucks so don't state that I did.
-
You are right stoneyburke, but it is so frustrating to watch TCM slowly going down the tubes. Yes, there is still quite a bit to be thankful for in TCM, but it is definitely not what it used to be.
-
You people are really starting to boil my blood. I never attacked anyone. When Iloveperth stated one man's trash is another man's treasure, he/she asked for it. I don't care how much a cartoon means to someone, they can watch it all day long for all I care, it just doesn't belong on TCM. I can't believe so many of you posters are in love with the drek TCM is showing this month. You would think a theme like the Oscars would result in nothing but great classic movies, but instead we get the likes of what Constarkel listed at the beginning of this post.
-
GeorgeObrien, I think Constarkel was being facetious.
-
How clever you must think you are. I refer to the 80's and 90's movies they have been showing as trash. Some of the 70's movies they choose leave much to be desired as well.
-
I guess you've been in hog heaven lately watching the trash that TCM decided we need to see. I will be watching my "treasures" on DVD (that have to be recorded overnight from TCM) these next few weekends.

Saturday nights in February BITE. And Nathan Lane is nauseating.
-
Maybe there isn't a vast difference compared with last year, but like Melanie pointed out in another thread, compare it to 4 or 5 years ago.

Constarkel - I agree with what you state.

Now Sugarpuss, FredcDobbs and Constarkel have both made clear what I was trying to point out. I was only trying to state that the modern movies are available everywhere, and for free on every other tv channel or the library if you don't live in the sticks. And by the way, yes, you can record from the DVDs you rent, I do it every day.
Johnnyweeks, none of your points were compelling, the movies you mentioned with the exception of Benji were movies that do belong on TCM anyways.
