  1. You would think 31 days of Oscar month would be an excellent month, with all the great movies from Hollywood's golden age to choose from, but the last few years we get an overdose of post 70's. Looks like I won't be the only one watching DVDs of previously recorded movies from my favorite era.
  2. constarkel who hasn't posted in a long time once posted the words to the idiotic song in Glass Bottom Boat. I also **** when he posted this: It should also be noted that the late, great Los Angeles Ram's helmet logo was modeled after Doris Day's hair style.
  3. I normally can't stand Doris Day, but I did like Julie.
  4. Thanks allieharding , I see that it's on the 29th on IFC so I will be recording it.
  5. I don't think any of the movies after One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest were deserving except Amadeus, A Beautiful Mind, and Chicago. I didn't see Schindler's List or The English Patient, but I'm sure they were quite good.
  6. Well I know everyone had hard wood floors and hotels probably had nice marble but I wouldn't stamp a cigarette out on them.
  7. I'm sure it's part of the "let's get the kids watching TCM" philosophy. I thought I had the tv on the wrong channel.
  8. Funny you should mention the cigarettes being dropped to the floor and stamped out. I started a thread quite a few months ago on this topic. I was wondering why in these older movies they seemed to just drop cigarettes on the floor in their homes, apartments, hotels, etc., sometimes just flicking them without a care as to where they land, and sometimes stamping them out on the floor.
  9. I wonder if TCM will ever show this movie?
  10. I have Comcast and nothing happened when I was watching. I do have to say that last night was one of the best nights TCM has offered in a very long time. I actually watched TCM from 5pm to after Red Headed Woman!
  11. lzcutter, what's the story on Louise Brooks movies? I see that they are not all Paramounts or Fox, and some have been released on DVD. I don't think I have seen any of her movies on TCM.
  12. "It is a much different line-up for 2007 but I wouldn't necessarily call it an aberration. If I was to offer a guess, I think TCM is going to put an emphisis on many of the technical categories - for the first time - during the primetime hours. I expect Special Effects, Cinematography, Set Design and Costume Design to be given the Robert Osborne treatment this year (along with the usual Actors, Director and Picture categories.) And I think that is new to the "31 Days..." evening schedule and theme-ing this year." I'm pretty sure they did this last year as well. I remember Fred joking that something they were showing was nominated for longest sideburns. It seemed like they were digging up any kind of nomination in order to show some of those movies. Looks like they did it again.
  13. As much as I love Holiday Affair, do you realize this is on 3 times this month?
  14. In one of the old threads on this topic I posted the website where I bought my Dogville Shorts DVD, but I don't have time to hunt for it.
  15. Tomorrow is a gold mine of movies TCM shows too often - Cactus Flower, Airport, Coal Miner's Daughter, and one of the worst movies ever made Plaza Suite. They also threw in a Jerry Lewis movie, making it 8 hours of "must not watch" tv.
  16. I still don't understand why TCM doesn't show Louise Brooks movies, it's not like they are all Paramounts or Fox. A few are now available on DVD too.
  17. I was going to say Holiday Affair with Robert Mitchum, but I just checked and it is playing 3 times in December. I think that is a bit excessive even though I really like that movie.
  18. My problem with these movies made in and after the 70's is that they are all available on VHS or DVD and all the other stations play them. It is the older movies that can't be rented or seen on other channels, so TCM is the only place to find them. I don't feel there is a need to show those (newer) movies, but I guess it all boils down to the almighty dollar.
  19. Detour is an excellent noir. Wasn't Ann Savage great as that horrible Vera? I wish TCM would show movies like that.
  20. Definitely a "must record" since I won't be up at 1:30am pacific time.
  21. That is very interesting. DOA is one of my favorite movies.
  22. "My point was that those who regularly complain about how prime time on TCM is filled with stuff they don't like might want to consider getting a device that makes the concept of prime time irrelevant." I already do that, but I feel it is unfortunate that I have to do this and can't just turn on TCM after a day's work and sit and watch it. Luckily I have many hundreds of movies recorded and will be dropping TCM in the next few months. Back to the topic, Brief Encounter, Plaza Suite, and The Producers get quite a bit of play in my opinion.
  23. > > You keep asking for it. They said you > > weren't a troll but I beg to differ. > > > > I've read quite a few implications on these forums > about trolls. And it seems to be a popular thing that > if someone disagrees with anybody that they must be a > troll. Sort of reminds me of the 50's when everyone > was calling everybody else a "Communist" like in the > McCarthy hearings. Just one persons observation I > could be wrong but I may be right. > > Bartlett Just so you know, you are wrong. I called "him" a troll because he follows me around and whenever I post my opinion - which is the opposite of his- he makes snide remarks. It is the camp that can't handle anything being said against TCM that flies off the handle when something is said. I love TCM since it is the only channel left with my old movies, but I am not happy with the increase of modern movies, and I should be able to say so without being told that someone is tired of my posts and that I should get a new screen name because this one isn't fitting. I have decided to ignore him from now on.
