A few I wouldn't mind tangling with.
Grace Kelley; beautiful blonde
Maureen O'Hara; a fiery redhead
Hedy Lamarr; (thought antar might like this one)
Elizabeth Taylor in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"
-
It's not classic, but I'll start with Michael J. Fox's
"Doc Hollywood"
-
guessing that if "he" were a she,
maybe "Sylvia Scarlett" ?

A couple of actors that crack me up are William Powell, Jack Lemmon, and Bill Murray.
-
I can't remember, was Cary Grant a writer in "Talk of the Town"?
-
I've always liked James Stewart,Cary Grant, and Jack Lemmon, as for women I find Claudette Colbert hard not to like and I've always liked Myrna Loy.

I remember the when I fisrst saw a movie with Katherine Hepburn. It was "Rooster Cogburn" and I disliked her almost immediately,I think it was her voice most of all. But now that I 've seen so many more of her films, some many times, I love her movies and I don't think all her characters are alike. I might not know anything about acting but it's been my immpression that the better actors relate to their characters through their own experiences and therefore put a piece of themselves into every character they play according to how they feel their characters should be.

Was it Marilyn Monroe?

It was a big theater used mainly for plays and concerts but it had to be close to half full, which might have been around two hundred people. Plus or minus. There were also people of all ages which was good to see and a lot more people my age than I thought would come.It was a fun time listening to the crowd react, you could tell a lot hadn't seen it before.

Like a bully picking on someone because everyone else loves them, but no matter what ever comes out, Hepburn will always be great and loved.

Just saw "North by Northwest" on the big screen. It was already one of my favorites but it was better than I thought it might be. The crop plane scene was great, I also liked seeing the scene where they force him drink bourbon, everything was just bigger and better. There was a lady behind me though who in the beginning would say uh-oh or OH NO every other minute or so. Uh-oh uh-oh, I thought she might have the hiccups. I just tuned her out though and enjoyed the movie.

A teacher of mine once showed me a good example of the diference between P/S and widescreen.
In Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey"
There is a scene where two of the astronauts are speaking or playing a game. And the ships computer HAL is watching them the whole time. Well in widescreen you see both of their faces on opposite sides of the screen with HAL's camera in the middle. In P/S you see the camera but not the men, I think maybe you see their noses or something. I just remember this because he really liked the film and said that P/S took a lot away from that particular scene.

Perhaps "My Man Godfrey"?

Thanks minatonga, I'll be sure not to drink to much during the movie!

I'm new here so I don't know if eveyone likes people posting things like this because everyone is so spread out but, for anyone who lives near Aurora,Illinois the next four Tuesdays in February, actually last week too, the Paramount Theater is showing free screenings of four movies.
All movies start at 7:30 P.M.
This Tuesday the 3rd is "North by Northwest"
then in order "Casablanca", "Dr. Zhivago", and "The Philadelphia Story"
The Paramount Theater has its own web site if you would like to check. I'm not sure of the exact address but if you search paramount theater Aurora Illinois you shouldn't have trouble.
Also Dr.Zhivago is the only one I haven't seen and was wondering what others thought about it?

"Lawrence of Arabia" is a Great movie
I love all of the scenes in the desert. They make it look as though no one else has ever been there before.
More specifically I like the scene when he returns to Cairo I believe and he is dressed in his white robes and with one of the boys who chose to serve him. I find it funny how all of the other British soldiers stare at him and react to his behavior.

I'll go for an even more recent film.
"Rudy" with Sean Astin is a great football movie.
-
John Wayne also did a western called "3 Godfathers" and now I wonder if it was a remake? I love westerns though and being particular to the DUKE I thought I might suggest a few.
The Searchers
Red River
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
There are many more great Wayne westerns but I really love these and each I think have an original quality to them.
Westerns without The DUKE
"Unforgiven" Clint Eastwood
"Tombstone"
"Lone Star" saw that this morning with Clark Gable
"Shane"
Sergio Leone westerns

Completely agree with you roldfilm, I had thought of that earlier today. The little emerald green cottage White O'Mornin in Innisfree. That just seems like it would be a laid back place to spend a summer, fishing and what not. I also love the actor who palys the little Michaeleen Flynn
-
I have to agree with skippy about Brando and Mitchum, even though I really like Mitchum in "El Dorado" and "Scrooged" but that could be because I love the DUKE and Bill Murray. Others that for some reason that is often hard to point out why I don't like them are Anthony Perkins, who I just saw in "Tin Star" with Henry Fonda, William Holden, and Doris Day. Perhaps for the final two I just haven't seen enough of their films. There is a current actor who I've never liked and can not watch his movies and thats Steven Seagal, but I don't think to many people could say that I'm wrong there.

Thanks for your help roldfilm, I'll be watching for those serials that are on tape.
-
To roldfilm, I am a big John Wayne fan and have many movies including earlier B westerns, but I'm not sure if any of his were serials, could you help explain, I have an old VHS of the third volume of "Hurricane Express" and I know he did several movies as the same character I think the name was Stony Brook. Are both of these serials? And do you know if they are available on DVD or VHS anywhere?

I would agree that it sounds a lot like "Topper". It does star Cary Grant and I believe the actress is Constance Bennett. After they die in the car crash though they stay as ghosts near the scene of the accident until their friend Topper has a flat tire at the spot driving their car. The movie is in black & white and there is a sequel which Cary Grant is not in. The only other movie were the couple dies and ends up at home is "Beetelguse", don't know if I spelled that right, with Michael Keaton. I'm pretty sure that's not what you're looking for though. Give "Topper" a shot, even if it's the wrong movie I'm sure you will enjoy it.
