  4. Most silents just have musical accompanyments(did I spell that right? oh well) and from what I understand Chaplin held out on sound as long as he could because he felt he was just as funny or funnier without which as you can see holds true
  5. They would be her uhhh great aunt and uncle I believe, John was her grandfather.
  6. dizzy good to hear from you again and I haven't seen "Gold Rush" yet either so don't worry. I may not get it exact but film noir is dark with lots of shadows and little light. A few I enjoy(anyone correct me if I go astray) are "The Big Sleep" my fav oh and you can't go wrong with Bogart, "The Third Man","Maltese Falcon", "Lady in the LAke","DOA", "Double Indemnity" and many others.
  7. As for women I think I would like to sit down to tea with Maureen O'hara, and not just because she was in several movies with Wayne but because she is just a beautiful women who I would love to talk with and she seems like she would be so full of life and such an energetic person, and how can you go wrong with that gorgous red hair?
  8. I would haved loved to sit down and have a few drinks with the Duke himself. I love the way John Wayne carried himself and i think he'd be a blast to go out and have a few with.
  9. Sorry but this doesn't have much to do with what you guys are discussing but this past wednesday I saw my first Chaplin movie. I don't know why it took me so long to see one because I've seen other silents but it did. Any ways the first on I saw was "Modern Times" and it was Fantastic! I laughed so hard throughout the entire movie it was great. And as others have mentioned its amazing at how many other things he contibuted than just his acting. I also loved the way Paulette Goddard looked, she's just beautiful. After that I watched several of his shorts that TCM showed and I still thought they were good. So I'll be trying to catch the rest of the CHaplin movies TCM is showing this month and enjoy them with great pleasure. Just thought I would share, THanks Pete
  10. LTL that was a good idea this one took me way too long to figure out
  11. Kinski to Christopher Lee in "To the Devil with a Daughter" Lee to James Stewart in "Airport 77" Sterwart to Simon in "Seventh Heavan"
  12. Yeah I think they should at least start Silent Sundays a little earlier, if not at 7 pm then maybe at 9? Have they always started later at eleven?I really don't think they would lose too many viewers by showing more silents on sundays or just showing them earlier.
  13. The Bloopers are Great! Its actually a reel called Breakdowns of 1938 and has many of the Warner actors messing up and its pretty good, you get to see a lot of the stars swearing. Such as Errol Flynn and Bette Davis.
  14. Has anyone used kevin BAcon yet? Try Kevin Bacon to uhhh Veronica Lake
  15. I think I have it 1. Sandler to Jack Nicholson in Anger Mamagement 2. Nicholson to Dana Andrews in The Last Tycoon 3. Andrews to Cooper in "The Westerner"
  16. well that was quicker than I had thougt. nice job
  17. Welcome dizzy! Movies that you want to start with are the genres you already enjoy, but comedies are always an easier transition. Everybody here has different tastes so theres no few movies that you have to like to be considered a true fan, just keep watchin and check as many out as you can. And remember to give all sorts a try don't limit yourself to one genre or one or two actors.
  18. Thats all right stella, I'm sure not everyone has the answer to their own questions. I know I don't anyway.
  19. *spacial* oops special , but you know what I meant
  20. Stella if you don't have it on DVD get the spacial editon, it has great extras on it with outtakes and a blooper reel, even Mr Osborne appears on the extras.
  21. I'm almost sorry to use this one. Try Steven Seagal to Dean Martin
  22. Bill Paxton and Ben Johnson were both in "The Evening Star"
  23. Hey Mongo you forgot "The Adventures of Robin Hood" I LOVE that movie, lots of fun to watch. Pete
