I think I'll chime in here too and say Happy Anniversary TCM!

phillygl silents are great and you should check out as many as you can, but i'm 23 and what got me onto the classics was watching westerns with my dad growing up.
Then in high school I really got into John Wayne Movies and from there i was hooked. THrough the Duke i found other actors like Jimmy Stewart(The Man who shot Liberty Valance) and through his movies others and so on. Since I've found many great actors that i love to watch. The classic movies just have this great feel to them that can be so much fun to just let yourself get reeled in.

I missed "King of Kings" last night so i think I'll watch it on Easter, not sure about any others.
-
Hey Pilgrim...oh i mean phillygl24
Your own preferences are yours and thats alright no matter what, but I happen to be a huge Duke fan but i aint mad.
and bggalaxy i think you meant the movie"Jingle all the Way" and yes it was a great performance for Sinbad, he should have at least won an mtv award

sorry to sideswipe ya there coffeedan, and yes us cubbie fans do get a little overzealous.
but hey we've been waiting for a good shot like this!
-
miniverrose i'm not sure about the jungle movies but all of the Road To movies that Lamour did with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby are all on DVD now. I bought Road to Singapore,Zanzibar, Utopia, and Morocco in a box set.
-
I don't know the answer but the cubbies did pull out the opening win today!

-
Oh yeah! one of the Dukes best.
And one of the greatest westerns EVER!

-
its on the tip of my tongue but I can't think of the name
-
"The Ghost Breakers"
-
Harlowkeatongirl mentioned two great ones that I thought were funny too.
WHen I read your post what came to mind for me was a scene where nothing in particular happens but it always grabs my attention.
In " Back to the Future" when Marty goes back to 1955 and he is still a bit disoriented he walks by a gas station on his way to a cafe adn a bell rings as a car pulls up and men come out to service the car. I don't know why but that scene stuck with me.

I'm 23 and like Valvolina none of my friends appreciate the classics but occasionaly I force it upon them so they do get some exposure. Even a few of my brothers friends who visit a lot have watched a few with me and enjoy them, my brother is 20 by the way.

mongo is it "Return of the Killer Tomatoes"
sorry just a guess for a clue
-
are we in another forum again?

-
I happened to see "The Grapes of Wrath" on DVD today, perhaps your info was wrong.
I was at Borders
-
Bggalaxy, you might want to try "Operation Petticoat" with Tony Curtis and Cary Grant. Its a fun movie and I enjoy it a lot.
-
THanks Venerados, I do have IFC.I'll keep a look out.

TCM showed "Seven Samurai" recently which was nice, but does anyone know if they have shown any other samurai movies?

Hey Arslong don't worry, I'm 23 and I have a tough time getting my friends to watch the classics too. I started one of my friends out on later classics from the fifies and sixties and that helped get him interested in some older stuff. He still will only watch every once in a while, some of my other friends just get mad when I want to watch anything older than the eighties.

Arslong you have to remember that many people most likely haven't seen as many of these actors movies.
Such as Chaplin. Before March I hadn't seen any CHaplin movies at all, and I've been loving this month having a chance to see so many of them.
I do agree that some lesser known actors would be great to spotlight though.
