wmruffin, "Not of This Earth"(1957). Roger Corman liked the story "Not Of This Earth" so much, he re-made it twice. Roger Corman disliked the movie "Not Of This Earth" (1957) so much, he never allowed release on video tape, or DVD. Note that my last sentence is based on second hand information. I have a DVD of "Not Of This Earth" (1957). Not from bootleg material. How can I have a DVD of a never released movie? Not bootlegged, to boot? I bought my DVD from someone having a "limited license" agreement with source material owner--I guess, Roger Corman. What is a "limited license" agreement? I investigated the question, asked the question and had my question answered. I could write about the 'ends and outs' of "limited licensing", but "limited licensing" is not relevant to this topic. Was my DVD purchase of "Not Of This Earth" (1957) worth the few bucks I paid? Well, the source material for the DVD was circa 1957 (not restored) film. Hard to see what was happening in the movie, even harder to hear the dialogue. Based on what I did see and hear, it was a pretty darn good "B" science fiction film. I don't understand why Roger Corman did not want the thing released to video. Oh yes, a big plus...Beverly Garland has a starring role. Rusty

George Sanders 100th Birthday July 3 - TCM Marathon??

MattHelm, First I get all 'verklempt' thinking about Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams" (another thread). Second, reading your Sander's quote. It is all so sad. Rusty -
wmruffin, The Monolith Monsters (1957). Not on DVD (according to IMDB). However. I could purchase "Monolith Monsters" on Laserdisc. Rusty

Hello, Neville Brand. Last week, watched Neville Brand as a 'nasty piece of work' in "Where The Sidewalk Ends". Yesterday, watched Neville Brand as slimy and creepy in "D.O.A." Creepy-slimy Neville Brand--worlds away from the irascible, but lovable, Reese Bennett in TV's "Laredo". Rusty
-
filmlover, I agree. I have watched "Field Of Dreams" many, many times. I am amazed every time I watch the thing at Kevin Costner's ability to convincingly deliver the line, "You wanna have a catch?". That moment just "get's to me"...sniff. Rusty

Kyle, Thank you for taking the time (and interest) to provide me with so much information--it is what 'kick started' me to do my schedule last Friday. How did I gather "magazine to movie" information? I had read coffeedan's message last August and I had remembered the 'gist' of his post. The steps I took to find appropriate movies follows (you may be familiar with this search routine): Using the "advanced Google search" option--type in the name of a source magazine (coffeedan mentioned several in his August message) and the words "user" and "comment" in the "find results" field. In the "domain" field--type in IMDB.com. Using the search terms "user" and "comment" focuses the Google search (ignores a lot of not relevant IMDB material). With a list of movie title 'hits' displayed, it is simply a matter of grinding through the movie titles. First, find how the magazine name is used (e.g. does it mention"Saturday Evening Post" as source literature). Second, determine if the movie title 'fits' a TCM schedule. You might be able to tell that my last programming day (sort of) ran out of steam. I was having a hard time finding appropriate movies. Note that I added "A Christmas Story" because I was surprised at the "Playboy Magazine" source...not because the movie fit with the June holidays. Rusty

MattHelm, Yeah...and stepping on their 'stuff' is not a concern. Rusty

MattHelm, "Alpaca farm on the side"--isn't that a more recent version of the old Chinchilla money pi...uh, opportunity? How is business? Rusty

allieharding, lzcutter (whoops, sorry about my last message...this time I spelled screen name good) and path40a, I thank all of you for the kind words. Thinking about the "awards" references bandied about earlier in this thread, I picture myself (amongst your company) the "running naked guy inviting a David Niven bon mot" sort of fellow. Rusty
-
MattHelm, Sorry. Thank you for the kudos. Most of my brain has 'checked out'. Rusty
-
MattHelm, Thank you for the thank you. Yesterday's 'work' was fun, despite my employer's computer 'locking up' on all the IMDB "flash-in-your-face" ads. My, ahem...business computer still runs Windows 95! The software simply can't hand all that s***. Believe it or not, I have watched the John Wayne serial--independent VHF station, broadcasting from Denver...many years ago. Rusty
-
Hello, BTW: The June 7th 7:30 pm listing? Don't try to find the thing--it does not exist. Aww. Rusty

Hello, I thank coffeedan and his post dated 8/1/05 "Re:Whatever happened to good movies?" Coffedan's information was the 'kernel' of my programming. Find the thread and Coffedan's message...very interesting. I thank Mongo--"Birthday" thread. I thank lzutter for the programming 'template'. I thank hlywdkjk for lots of information and tips. I thank MattHelm for the "serial" idea. Matt...honestly, I did not remember you placing your serials Saturday morning. I was ready to 'upload' my programming (I was checking for another "Ben Hur" essential) and viewed your programming. Your idea must of stuck somewhere in my head. I thank path40a for the challenge. I worked on this all day Friday and left all my 'other' work for Monday. Briefly, June 1st--my wedding anniversary. I programmed 'wedding' fare. June 2nd--more Tarzan than anyone needs (or wants). June 2nd--I programmed movies based on stuff appearing in Collier's magazine. June 3rd--I programmed all 227 minutes of the John Wayne serial. I know that the episodes would normally 'spread' over several weeks. My programming all episodes Saturday morning is...I don't know...to 'fill in' several hours. June 4th--Joe Pasternak...need I say more? June 5th--Edward G. Robinson and Robert Taylor...my guys! I took some liberties with 'have to lease' movies. I marked the Robinson programming that may be TCM premieres with an asterisk. BTW: The one movie I listed that requires a TCM broadcast is the wonderful 'kids' adventure film--"Sammy Goes South" (aka "A Boy Ten Feet Tall"). I saw that thing as a boy, uh...40 years ago! June 6th--I programmed movies based on stuff appearing in The Saturday Evening Post magazine. June 7th--I programmed movies based on stuff appearing in various magazines. I listed source magazine with the movie. Rusty

lzcutter, Thank you for the information. Guess what? I finished my "challenge" schedule! I am printing the thing out for a final 'quality assurance' look-over. I will post tomorrow. It took most of today (Friday) to complete, but doing the thing was a lot of fun! Again, thanks for the info. Rusty

sandykaypax, So, how does your mother 'feel' about "The Shmenges"? I will clear up a little confusion: The stuff (SCTV-wise) that has been released on DVD are 39-ninety minute episodes. The two years of 39 episodes are titled "SCTV Network 90". These have been broadcast umpteen times on television. The first three seasons of "Second City TeleVision" are 78-thirty minute episodes. As far as I know--broadcast one time on American television. The thirty minute shows are a lot less scripted (more 'off the cuff') than the ninety minute shows. BTW: The thirty minute shows are pre-Martin Short. According to an IMDB message board thing--the producers of the thirty minute episodes included music without concern for legal rights. I guess a producer could do that sort of thing in 1976. Anyway. The legal wrangling may have been settled--the thirty minute episodes may be released on DVD very soon. All right! For more information (and a little bit about each thirty minute episode) check out sctvguide.ca Very Funny Show! Rusty -
Metry Road, Borrow the book? Sure. I must add--I read stuff slooow. I also have a history of breaking books and, uh...staining the pages. In fact, the people working at my local library hate to see me enter the library building. I don't know why librarians hate me. The last time I had a library book 'incident', I gave them twenty dollars for a book they said I ruined with coffee stains. I bet the same book would sell at the annual "friends of the library sale" for one dollar. IMO: The "you ruined our book...pay up" is a public library scam. Rusty

pktrekgirl, Oh, f*** movies. I tell you what I am NOT reading--my (just arrived in the mail) Errol Flynn auto-biography. Why? My wife is reading the thing. I got to page three (Errol Flynn recounts the 'dying words' of his business manager, "...tell Errol I'm sorry") and 'good-bye' book. Oh well. My wife is a very fast reader. I will get my hands on the book...tomorrow. Rusty

Hello, Oh that dirty, dethpicable, SOB--Gene Lockhart. Screwing over my man, Edward G. Robinson (several times!) in "Blackmail" (1939). Oh, I hate him...I HATE HIM. Lockhart, that is. Rusty

Which Star of the Month would you like to see?

JeffH, I totally, utterly and completely agree with your comment regarding Gene Tierney. Not only one of the most beautiful stars to appear on the silver screen, but projects a one-of-a-kind screen presence. Unfortunately, I think Gene Tierney worked for 20th Century Fox and her movies are broadcast on that other movie channel--FMC. My cable only carries FMC as a digital thing and I don't 'buy into' the digital channels. Alas, I have to rent DVDs to watch the lovely Gene Tierney. BTW: I highly recommend the movie "The Razor's Edge" for more Tierney. Rusty -

MattHelm, I've watched several of the Comedy Central "Primetime Glick" shows. The Glick shows I've watched have been broadcast at Comedy Central's other "primetime"--6:00 A.M. Saturday morning. I know...the shows I've seen must have been re-runs. Very funny stuff. I particularly like the reactions of his guests--whether scripted, or not, Glick's guests appear to get pretty **** off at the host. I hope Martin Short's "Glick" does not run out of steam after one-half hour, because I am going to rent the "Jiminy Glick" movie. BTW: Do you know where I might purchase a Sanyo 6400 Housing? Rusty -

brian34, I want to see the original three(?) seasons--1976 to 1979, Canadian broadcast, of "Second City Television". I wish they would get all the problems with music rights cleared up, so SCTV (Global Television produced) would be released on DVD. Reading the synopsis of the shows on sctvguide.ca brought back fond memories. The Global Television produced SCTV was broadcast one time (in the United States) on PBS affiliates. Rusty
