daddysprimadonna, I know! I thought (make that think) the same thing. I know Viven Leigh worked with Olivier in "Hamlet". I am confused. Do you think IMDB cast list for "Hamlet" is wrong? Okay. I just did a "joint venture" search of Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh: 21 Days (1940) Darlings of the Gods (1989) (TV) Fire Over England (1937) Golden Gong, The (1985) (TV) Larry and Vivien: The Oliviers in Love (2001) (TV) Laurence Olivier: A Life (1982) (TV) Prince, the Showgirl and Me, The (2004) (TV) Sir John Mills' Moving Memories (2000) (V) Tales of Helpmann, The (1990) That Hamilton Woman (1941) Vivien Leigh: Scarlett & Beyond (1990) (TV) Wonderful Wizard of Oz: 50 Years of Magic, The (1990) (TV) I feel like I am in an episode of the Twilight Zone! daddysprimadonna, Quote: "I also saw her play Ophelia in Lawrence Olivier's version of "Hamlet". She was good in it,which had to be difficult, playing in a film with the likes of Lawrence Olivier. From what I've read, she wasn't shabby as a stgae actress, though she'd never have been what's considered a "great" stage actress." I spent a lot of time trying to think of the Vivien Leigh performance that was notably different than her performances in "GWTW" or, "Waterloo Bridge". I knew I had seen Vivien recently in some movie that 'fit the bill'. I read your message and thought, "yeah, that's it--Lawrence Olivier's 'Hamlet'". I looked up "Vivien Leigh" on IMDB. No "Hamlet" for Vivien Leigh's filmography?! I then looked up "Hamlet". Oh, Jean Simmons played Ophelia! daddysprimadonna...Vivien Leigh and Jean Simmons? Those two are swap-able! Rusty

normandie7, I've posted my recommendations on this forum before but, I'll do it again: I have a particular fondness for the two David Niven memoirs--"The Moon's A Balloon" (1971) and "Bring On the Empty Horses" (1975). If you like David Niven's screen persona, I bet you will be entertained by his books. Rusty BTW: I apologize for my first sentence. I have a lot of 'hutspa'! I know no reader (of course, except me) remembers what I have posted past times.

MattHelm, "Ride The Pink Horse"? BTW: After reading what I read--"Women In Revolt" might be the catch-all answer for any oddball clue.

MattHelm, Quote: "I saw that movie and I'd say it's culp-able of putting anyone off of that culp-rit." and Quote: "...Kanamit ... I wonder what they'll call the figure from B.B. Mountain." "Nancy" Culp? Rusty

allieharding, I did not see your message before I posted--my writing was in process. I hope the dvd-ram option works for 'copy once' source material. I have not hooked the thing up yet so, I will see. BTW: The Toshiba is highly rated except for that crappy TV Guide thing. Rusty

FredCDobbs, Quote: "My Panasonic will not record commercial movie tapes. It stops after a few seconds and says on the TV screen that the tape has some kind of electronic protection on it and it can’t be recorded. This is a system established by the film industry with a detector built into my recorder to turn it off whenever it detects a certain non-copy signal. But I can record other tapes, such as tapes I made off TCM, that don’t have the electronic protection." I received a Toshiba combo hard disk/dvd recorder this morning. Reading the first few pages of the 160 page manual, I notice this thing will not record copy protected material including, 'copy once' to dvd-r disks. It will record 'copy once' source material to dvd-ram disks. I think source may have to be recorded to hard disk then to dvd-ram...I don't know at present. Fred...does your recorder have dvd-ram capabilities? I think dvd-ram disks cost about two times dvd-r disks. That may be a solution to recording of 'copy once' source material. Rusty

stoneyburke, Quote: "Oddly, What's Up Tiger Lily, which I thought was soooo clever and funny a hundred years ago, was recently a meh film." I have wondered the same thing about two films I saw theatrical first run and thought were very funny: Woody Allen's "Take The Money And Run" and Mel Brooks' "The Twelve Chairs". I have not seen either movie since the first run. Maybe, I don't want to have the the memory 'sullied'. "Take The Money And Run"--it has been copied so many times. Rusty

Gone With The Wind-THIS Is What TCM's All About-Yaaayyyy!

lzcutter, I agree with sandykaypax...more information regarding editing film. If you are interested, please explain how you got a job in the 'cutting' business. I have wanted a career as a sound engineer since I was...12 years old. Well, too late now! Sniff... Rusty -
Huntress, Robert C...Robert C... Robert Culp stuff is on hold. I watched "A Name For Evil" (1973) and that...thing, put me off the Culp (so to speak). However. Looking at Robert Culp's filmography, I notice (I had forgotten) he starred in one of the best things ever produced for TV--"The Outer Limits" episode "Demon With A Glass Hand". I am a BIG fan of Harlan Ellison! Okay, Robert Culp is now off my 'oh, so bad' list. Why is the Culp thing on hold? Two reasons: 1) Since subscribing to Netflix, I have been watching edifying fare. Movies like "Casque d'or" and "Children Of Paradise". 2) A couple of years ago, I sat through "Zabriskie Point" (1970). I think I had a 'sensitizing' reaction towards bad cinema. After the experience, I simply cannot sit all the way through a really bad movie. Aww. Huntress...I understand you like to take the 'high road' regarding what you spend time watching. If you have not already seen "Zabriskie Point", don't! Of course, only my opinion. Rusty

vallo13, I wish I hadn't read your message regarding "Jack Wild". I watched "Oliver!", uhm...last Tuesday? Depressing news. Rusty

Huntress, Quote: "What was the apartment number??..." While I was composing the message regarding "Trivia Bowl", I searched to make sure the episode was "Assignment Earth" (my memory frazzled). The first hit was "Assignment Earth--Excrutiatingly Detailed Plot Summary". I've copied and pasted a relevant bit: "Just after Seven learns from the Beta 5 that agents 201 and 347 were killed in an automobile accident on Highway 949, 10 miles north of McKinley Rocket Base, Kirk and Spock (who have beamed down in an attempt to locate Seven) barge into the office. However, Lincoln stalls them long enough to allow Seven to escape into the safe/transporter, and also manages to call the police to the office (which is located at 811 East 68th Street, number 12B). When they arrive, Kirk beams them...". Isn't it strange that the author of the summary included Gary Seven's apartment address? Hmmm...I wonder if that has become a standard "Star Trek" trivia item? Rusty

MattHelm, One of my favorites..."Split Second"? Sidenote to MrWriteLa please: I looked up "Women In Revolt"...have you seen that movie?!

stoneyburke, Yes. The people who regard nature as an amusement park ride. Oh...that's right, extreme. Unh...huh. I don't know...I will never know. I do know that I won't waste my time trying to understand their extreme death wish. On the other hand, I have never had the experience of--spending big bucks for a helicopter ride...flying hundreds of miles...getting dropped on top of some mountain...intentionally causing an avalanche...and skiing the thing! Oh...boy! BTW: It is a shame that bear was shot. Rusty

stoneyburke, I think a lot of folks like "Grizzly Man" are wandering around Alaska. Because the state has over 500,000 square miles...they go about their business and little notice is given to them by authorities or residents. Only when, for instance, a couple of them get eaten do they 'make news'. Why my opinion? 1) "Grizzly Man", the movie, interview with "four trash bag man". 2) Timothy Treadwell and Amie Huguenard--"Grizzly Man" and girlfriend of "Grizzly Man". 3) Christopher McCandless--protagonist of the book "Into The Wild". 4) Three high school classmates. Went looking for...something in the Alaska wilderness during the 1970s. Luckily, did not go missing. Unless, working on the North Slope is regarded as 'missing'. Rusty

deadpandiva, Great line--made me laugh. Maxine (Ava Gardner) say it in the movie? If "yes"...perfect. Rusty

if you could get TCM to show 1 Movie, What would it be??
jarhfive replied to Victor's topic in General Discussions
Chauncey, I was flipping through an old "Movies Unlimited" catalog this morning and noticed the listing for "Flim Flam Man". I thought, "that would be a great 'Suggest A Movie'"! I believe synchronicity is merely my attention 'tuned into' something, but...strange, eh? Rusty -
MattHelm, With deadbeat patrons? My house. How about..."Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman"

MattHelm, Quote: "Your wish has been granted, however they'll be showing at 2 AM, 4 AM and 6 AM." Unh...unh. Between 2 AM and 8 AM is my "SHABBY Tribute" schedule. "She's Having A Baby", "Babycakes" and "Yanni Tribute". bubba
-
sweetbabykmd, I have had a little time to think over this schedule thing. Submitted...for approval: BOFFO! day. Back-to-back-to-back showings of "Ball Of Fire", "Fury" (1936) and "Oliver!". bub
