First post. Hi. Dredging up a dead topic, after searching "Ball of Fire", because it is such a disappointment. Imagine the excitement of being selected to talk about classic film with Ben. Maybe this sounds unappealing to you, and honestly it should--what a nerve wrecking experience for a nerd. And then being criticised by the very small demographic of people who share your interest, for being somehow less qualified, less dignified, less articulate, and less intelligent with a more unfortunate voice tonality than some other TCM viewer.
Like many TCM viewers, I've been on board since AMC became something else and TCM took over. But it is a lonely interest, one that I almost never discuss out loud. Personally, I've never met anyone who watches as much classic film as you and I do--it's not even a passion or a hobby, just what I watch. So I found it both an infuriating ("WHAT!? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE THAT HAVE TAKEN MY POSITION IN FRONT OF BENJAMIN'S FACE!?") and enthralling experience to see other normal human beings I might work with or befriend who share the same viewing habits. People for whom old things aren't kitsch. As far as I knew, TCM viewer demographics consisted of just me and remaining members of The Greatest Generation. So, today I decided to see if there was a place where surviving members of the Greatest Generation and I could talk about watching old movies.
Maybe this isn't how things usually go--poking fun of community members with a sense of meanness--and I hope that it is not.
