It's That Time Again-GWTW And The Oscars
daddysprimadonna replied to daddysprimadonna's topic in General Discussions
Thank you I never miss a viewing of GWTW, and in spite of my resolution, I couldn't bear to not share the experience with my fellow classic movie fans -
Well, one of my all-time favorite movies-Gone With The Wind-is on again, in all its ante-bellum glory. I adore this movie-the lush music, the gorgeous settings, the characterisations, the costumes, the story, the actors, everything. It deserved every Oscar it won and more. Its one of those movies I can watch over and over and never tire of. Clark Gable was born to play Rhett Butler, and I may be one of the few who thinks that Leslie Howard made a wonderful Ashley Wilkes. The perfection of Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara goes without saying, and Olivia DeHavilland as Melanie Hamilton is a perfect fit. I love her interpretation of Melanie. This movie, in my opinion, deserves every accolade and honor it has received, and is truly a classic.

I've always wanted to see "That Hamilton Woman", I've never managed to catch it. i should see if it's out on DVD.

She's so tiny! Dolores Del Rio, I mean. So was Vivien Leigh. It seems a lot of the actresses were much smaller than they appeared on screen,height-wise.
-
Is that Vivien Leigh in "Anna Karenina"? I love that movie. Her version is my favorite.

I love the sweet little saying in "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" that Phyllis and Van Johnson are always saying to each other--"Why are you so cute?" "I had to be,if I was going to get such a good-looking fella". That is so sweet!
-
Phyllis Thaxter---she was so sweet-looking in "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo". That is a great movie,so inspiring.

I thought Joan Crawford was at her loveliest in the movie "Susan And God". She wore a gown in that movie, that was backless, except for a twisted strap down the back. I later saw that gown on another actress in another movie, but I can't remember who or what movie. I also remember seeing a wide-leg pajama outfit that Dolores Del Rio wore in "Flying Down To Rio",on Betty Grable in a later Fred and Ginger movie,"The Gay Divorcee", I think. It's the one where a very young Betty sings "Let's Knock Knees". She was so cute in it.

In real life,do you mean? They were certainly hot on the screen. Clark Gable is the only one of Joan Crawford's leading man that I can recall, that she didn't dominate in a on-screen. It seemed like she knew it too,and appreciated it.

Poor Larry! I hope y'all made it up. WE definitely want you!

Joan Crawford was really very pretty before the lips and eyebrows took over. She looks very tender here. Clark Gable is his usual handsome self, but I prefer him with the mustache.

That would be a miracle!
