Dont Look Back (1967)
The best Bob Dylan documentary, he is just on the cusp of changing over to electric rock from acoustic folk. One memorable scene has a British female fan telling him how much she loves "The Times They Are A-Changin' but doesn't like "Subterranean Homesick Blues". He says "Oh you're that kind, I understand right now"

the Black Sheep was a horror film that marked the end of the line for Bela Lugosi (unless you count his snippet in Plan 9)

I love the cast but one of the worst films of the 1950s. Basil Rathbone has the lead but I am sure he just needed some money. Lon Chaney Jr and Bela Lugosi are both cast as mutes so they have no lines. They had co starred in several earlier films and were not on good terms. They argued on the set and it nearly came to a fight, according to the director.

Not as a Stranger was the directorial debut of Stanley Kramer, a cross between a crime film and a medical film, starring Robert Mitchum, Frank Sinatra, Olivia De Havilliand, Broderick Crawford, Gloria Grahame, Charles bickford, Lon Chaney Jr, and Lee Marvin.

It's not a great film, but definitely one of the best casts ever.

Battle Of The Sexes (2017) 4/10

I had high expectations for this one, Emma Stone and Steve Carell are both highly talented actors and the directors had made one of my favorite 21st century films "Little Miss Sunshine". It tells us about the events leading up to the exhibition tennis match between current female champ Billie Jean King and former male champ Bobby Riggs.
But the writing is poor, it's soap opera with a lot of preachy "Lifetime movie" moments. Stone (as Billie Jean King) and even Carell (as Bobby Riggs) underplay their parts but they are OK. The supporting cast is mostly one dimensional characters. I recall the real match and hype that went on back in 1973 and it was a lot more fun than this movie.

Ford could never be accused of typecasting his two leads in this film, anyway.
Every time I watch this great western, I wonder if Ford had indeed typecast those roles and switched them, had the final product been lessened.
Perhaps the rigid martinet character would have been TOO rigid played by Wayne, and the more sympathetic officer under his command played by Fonda instead perhaps too ineffectual or soft than how Wayne played the character.
(...guess we'll never know, but as it is, Ford's film is one of the greats of the genre, anyway)
I have often thought the same thing. That Fonda would be cast as Captain York, the one who wants to reason and negotiate with the Apaches, while Wayne would be Colonel Thursday who looks to do battle with these people he considers savages. It might have been a warmup for Wayne to play Ethan Edwards in "The Searchers".
I think "Fort Apache" is a good western though I wish we more of the Thursday/York conflict and less of the Shirley Temple/John Agar romance.

Sorta makes me wonder how the real life Mansonsites got past those gates
according to Susan Atkins, they avoided the high metal gates and picked a spot in the fence and climbed over one at a time.

I own 6 of the Criterion Collection I will go over the extras since I believe that is the big selling point for these:
Fanny And Alexander (1983) the greatest extras on this , my favorite foreign language film. It has the 3 hour theatrical version as well as the 5 hour TV miniseries, in both subtitled and dubbed versions. A "Making Of" documentary, new interviews with some cast members.
Nashville (1975) a great package, has both DVD and Blu Ray versions. New documentary with cast members Ronee Blakley, Keith Carradine, Lily Tomlin. Several archival interviews with director Robert Altman. Altman also does audio commentary.
The Most Dangerous Game (1932) a good restored print. Only extra is an audio commentary by a film historian, which I haven't even listened to.
The Night Of The Hunter (1955) one of my top ten films of all time. The extras have some archival interviews with Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, Lillian Gish. The best thing is a full length version of the film where we see and hear Laughton directing the cast and crew on every scene, an absolute gold mine for film buffs.
Ride The Pink Horse (1947) a good 2K digital restoration. There are some audio and new interviews with film historians, I had heard and seen them but can't really recall anything about them.
Sundays And Cybele (1962) I had waited a long time for this to be DVD, well worth the wait. The digital transfer is beautiful. Some new interviews with director Serge Bourguignon and actors Hardy Kruger and Patricia Gozzi (who played the little girl in this).

This was my favorite of the lot. George Sanders is one of the clever and evil villains in film history here. Barbara Stanwyck is also excellent.

Joe Kidd (1972).
Competently made western in which Clint Eastwood plays Joe Kidd, a man hired by a landowner/rancher (Robert Duvall) to find the leader of the Mexican-Americas who are fighting being cheated out of their land claims (John Saxon). Kid realizes that his boss is evil, and switches sides.
Entertaining enough, with nothing particularly wrong and nothing that will make it particularly stand out from a hundred other westerns. If you like westerns and/or Clint Eastwood, you'll really like it.
7/10.
This was OK. Don Stroud plays another one of the slimy creeps he portrayed so often in the 1970s. My favorite scene is when he is blocking Eastwood's way up a staircase, but Clint just tosses him tumbling down the stairs!

Rumored for the past several years, director Guillermo Del Toro's remake of the 1947 Tyrone Power film Nightmare Alley is finally moving forward, with cast announcements made. The new version will star Bradley Cooper, and he'll be joined by Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, Willem Dafoe, Rooney Mara, and Michael Shannon. The film is eyeing a late 2020 release.
Sounds first class. That is one remake I might see.
