Absolution (1978) 6/10 DVD A pretty good British suspense film about a priest in a Catholic boarding school, he deals with a resentful student who may or may not have committed murder. Richard Burton stars as the strict Father Godard and he is excellent. The film takes a long time to get going though it's only 95 minutes long. It was written by Anthony Shaffer ("Sleuth") so you can expect some shocking plot twists. The movie was filmed in 1978 but not released in the USA until 1988, 4 years after Burton's death. While it's not great it is worth seeing for Burton and a good ending.

I always loved "The Day The Earth Stood Still", below is one of most "noir" moments in it. Plus it was directed by Robert Wise, who had made one of the toughest noirs a few years before "Born To Kill"

That's my favorite gangster/noir film of all time. There is a great shot of the Hell Gate bridge in there.

I grew up on 8th street and Astoria Blvd, the projects. I'm further up now, rather not say exactly where.

A good movie, but "Into The Wild" (2009) was a better wilderness film.

This was a nice chance for Poitier to do a romantic comedy, Abbey Lincoln was very good. Though my favorite thing about it was seeing Carroll O'Connor as the family patriarch, just a few years before he became Archie Bunker. Lincoln and O'Connor would later reunite on a Season 9 episode of "All In The Family"

The Academy did not, but they did give supporting performance nominations for Seymour Cassel and Lynn Carlin.

That's actually a Lugosi film. He is at most creepy in this one, with many shots of his hypnotic eyes.

9/10 A first time viewing for me, I am sorry now that I waited so long to see this cult favorite. Jeff Bridges is The Dude, a slacker mistaken for a rich guy with the same name of Lebowski. He comes across many weird characters when the real Lebowski's trophy wife is kidnapped. I knew at the beginning that I was going to like this one when heard the narration from Sam Elliott's gravelly, weary voice. Way too many funny lines and scenes to mention. A great soundtrack featuring Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Kenny Rogers And The First Edition. It almost makes me want to try a White Russian, though the thought of vodka, Kahlua and cream makes me nauseous.

I sent some drawings of mine to him and finally got an type written letter from him with his autograph. He said it was good to hear from me again and said that the pictures looked real good.

He created a literal out of this world experience with this film. It is one of the most unique films ever made, some have tried to imitate it but never gotten close.

I loved this Disney attempt at a Hitchcock type suspense film. It was the first time I had seen it since my childhood, but some scenes stuck with me. Hayley Mills (becoming a lovely young lady at this time, no longer a little child) is an English girl traveling in Crete with her aunt. She meets an young Englishman (Peter McEnery, he was Dirk Bogarde's boy toy in "Victim") who is in danger from a menacing criminal (Eli Wallach). The windmill escape is still thrilling, the locations is beautiful and Wallach is excellent. It always makes for a better film when the villain plays it straight, not as comical buffoons like in other Disney films. Hayley's next and last Disney film "That Darn Cat" also had 2 mean and scary bad guys played by Neville Brand and Frank Gorshin.
