A couple days ago I watched Red Heat with Arnold Schwarzenegger (I had to look him up to spell his name right) and Jim Belushi. It's an okay buddy/cop movie. Arnold makes a good Russian tough guy and Belushi is the American big mouth.
I saw it when first released, It was an OK action/comedy by Walter Hill, who did the greatest action/comedy movie ever IMO which is 48 Hrs, with the dynamic team of Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy.

He did both in an episode of The Adventures Of Superman. He played a dual role of a kindly rich Texan who wants to donate some land for a children's camp. He also plays a nasty gangster who is the exact lookalike of the nice guy. He plans to swindle him out of the land for himself.

Songs From A Parent To A Child Art Garfunkel -Jun 1997
A good album, very soothing to listen to, Garfunkel's first in 9 years. It is a collection of songs a parent might sing to their child. There are beautiful versions of "Morning Has Broken" and "Baby Mine" which was in the Disney movie classic Dumbo. Garfunkel does a good version of the early Marvin Gaye hit "You're A Wonderful One", aided by some great organ playing by Billy Preston. John Sebastian provides some guitar, harmonica and whistling for a remake of the The Lovin" Spoonful's "Daydream". Garfunkel's 6 year old son does a funny impression of Elvis Presley on "Good Luck Charm'. This is also first time Garfunkel covered a Beatles song "I Will" from the White Album. My favorite track turns out to be one of the lesser known songs, a dreamy "Lasso The Moon".

Much has been written and discussed about the feud Bette Davis and Joan Crawford had during the filming of What Ever Happened To Baby Jane (1962). However I don't hear much about the only time they actually competed against each other for the Best Actress Oscar 10 years before.
Bette Davis was nominated for The Star and Joan Crawford for Sudden Fear. I just saw The Star for the first time, it was just on TCM. I thought Davis was great, playing an Oscar winning actress who now cannot get work since she is now getting too old for Hollywood standards. She gets some great moments especially in one scene where she is forced to work in a department store and tells off some haughty rich women. The film is a bit slight and ends abruptly but Davis makes it worth seeing. I think Sudden Fear is a better film, a well done suspenser and Crawford makes a sympathetic victim to the nefarious schemes of the characters played by Jack Palance and Gloria Grahame, One interesting bit of trivia is that the character in The Star was actually based on Joan Crawford!
I looked in my copy of the book Inside Oscar to see if there was a showdown of the two divas on Oscar night, plus this was the first Oscar ceremony broadcast on TV. However, Davis did not attend, she was recovering in a New York hospital from a jaw operation. Crawford showed up in Hollywood but said that she was betting that Shirley Booth would win for Come Back Little Sheba. She turned out to be right and I also think she was the most deserving.
What do you think of these performances? Did anyone hear of anymore trivia about it?

Songs From The Capeman Paul Simon -Nov 1997
Simon's first in 7 years, it contains his versions of songs from his flop Broadway musical The Capeman, it was about a real life Puerto Rican gang member who murdered two other teens in 1959. The songs are quite good and well performed, I think it is better than Simon's last two more acclaimed albums. It must be taken as a whole, but it has many good individual moments. "Born In Puerto Rico" has a nice Latin feel to it. "Satin Summer Nights" and "Bernandette" are good doo w o p songs. My favorite on the album is "Can I Forgive Him" in which Simon sings in the character of the mother of the killer and the mothers of his two victims, he sings solo and accompanied only on his guitar. There is a good song where he does not sing, "Sunday Afternoon" beautifully sung by Ednita Nazario.

My favorite exchanges were Eddie trying to BS Mrs. Cleaver (and always failing).
It's on MeTV every morning at 8:00 and 8:30AM Mon to Fri.

Eddie was one of the funniest supporting characters in sitcom history. A unique character as well, I cannot recall any other like him. The show is one of the greatest sitcoms IMO, it has often been unfairly maligned as some boring, sentimental dated drivel. If you actually sit and watch the show, you will see that is just FUNNY! The situations and dialogue are laugh out loud at times. It gets some of the messages and lessons in there, but when it seems to get preachy, Wally or Beaver come up with line that makes you laugh again.

The best part of the Naked Kiss is the opening sequence, and some of the creepier sequences with the kids. The whole small town stuff looks heap backlot like the Maybury set from Andy Griffiths Show. Its missing that gritty downtown LA/Bunker Hill "Noir" atmosphere. Which is too bad, especially when you look at the great atmosphere that was achieved in Touch Of Evil, shot around LA and Venice, California.
I actually liked the studio set scenes, since the film was set in nice little town. It was a great contrast to the jaw dropping perversity that happens in the film.

I just saw this for the second time, I also give it 6/10. I agree it is not one of Fuller's better films but interesting. I have to disagree on The Naked Kiss, which is my favorite Fuller.
I agree about the on location shooting, especially the night scenes of very sleazy LA areas. The film is quite short (82 minutes) and a few scenes seem to fade out rather quickly making me suspect that much was cut. This film will mean more to Fuller fans than just average movie lovers. Shigeta gives a great performance as the Japanese American cop, he also appeared in another interracial romance Bridge To The Sun (1961) with Carroll Baker. Glenn Corbett is good too as Shigeta's partner. he appeared in one of my favorite William Castle films Homicidal, though he was a bland leading man character. Anna Lee nearly steals the film as a hard drinking bohemian artist.
Eddie Muller says another Fuller film Underworld USA will soon be seen on Noir Alley, I think a much better one.
