Sorry, Dt. Jim Mcleod but this is not my last entry.   This was an observation about the trending of playing the same things over and over.  It is the holidays, and I would like to see more holiday themed movies, not  Holiday affair movie with Robert Mitchum 24/7.  People like you haters should stay off these comment boards.  Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas Two Post Wonder! You are too funny! If you make another post, try some more fake outrage, that would be hilarious!

  2. 284 Giant- One of Elizabeth Taylor's best performances,  2 well deserved Oscar nominations for Rock Hudson and James Dean

285 The Three Faces Of Eve - great Oscar winning performance by Joanne Woodward, Lee J Cobb is good as the doctor, I wish the movie was longer though

286 A Child Is Waiting I think this is Judy Garland's best dramatic performance as a kind hearted teacher of Down's syndrome kids, Burt Lancaster is also fine as more tough instructor

  3. Knives Out Poster

Knives Out - current release 5/10

An elderly patriarch of a wealthy family is found dead, everyone is  a suspect.

I was looking forward to this one but was a bit disappointed. The cast was the real attraction here: Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon and Christopher Plummer as the victim.  The real main character is the least known cast member Ana de Armas as a South American nurse to Plummer.  She is very good and Craig has fun as a Southern gentleman detective. However the film is overlong (130 min) and while it is a murder mystery spoof, some of the humor falls flat. While I did not figure out everything, some of it was predictable. I wouldn't recommend seeing it in a theater, wait until you can see it for free and you might like it.

    I finished out my day's movie-watching with The Astro-Zombies (1968)

I have always wanted to see this one, mostly because of Tura Satana. She was so dangerously sexy in Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, I was always hoping to see her in something else. Does she have a significant role in Astro Zombies?

Karloff is sympathetic as the uglified assistant (Irene Ware, upon first sighting him, runs away after first letting out a series of screams).

After that scene, Lugosi tells her that Karloff looks that way because he was captured and tortured during WWI. She then goes to Karloff and apologizes, which I thought was a surprisingly touching scene amid the madness and mayhem. I love this film BTW, my favorite Karloff/Lugosi collaboration.

The first time in a while I've heard of most on the list.  But I had no idea that Violet from the Willy Wonka movie( Denise Nickerson) had died this year.   She was 6 years my junior.  And that's distressing.

I didn't know that either, she was also Amy Collins on Dark Shadows.

  7. These are some of my favorite stunningly beautiful actresses on screen. Pick one movie in which you thought they were the most beautiful.

    Sophia Loren

    Grace Kelly

    Raquel Welch

    Elke Sommer

    Natalie Wood

    here is what I think:

Sophia Loren-Houseboat-she stops everyone in their tracks when enters in that gold gown

Grace Kelly-To Catch A Thief-a stunner in  Technicolor

Raquel Welch- Fathom-in a bikini, nuff said

Elke Sommer-Deadlier Than The Male-she is a dangerous but seductive character

Natalie Wood-West Side Story-if you freeze frame the scene on the balcony when her face is resting on Richard Beymer's hand, you will see her at her most beautiful

I thought this was the funniest one. The original was pretty good too. I tried just the other day to watch the third one (return of the pp) and couldn't get through it. Sadly lacking. They couldn't crank it up after the 10-year layoff.

A Shot In The Dark is my favorite. It was based on a straight murder mystery play and then refashioned as a comedy for Inspector Clouseau. Funniest scenes are in the nudist colony.

I thought the original was OK, the Clouseau scenes are by far the best. I thought the movie dragged when it focused on Niven/Cardinale and Wagner/Capucine.

Jason Robards is one of the finest American actors in my book.  He always seemed to 'bring it' when he was on set, which really surprised me when I learned that he was an alcoholic.

Yes, he is always great. Did you ever see The House Without A Christmas Tree? I think it's on Youtube

  10. The House Without a Christmas Tree Poster

The House Without A Christmas Tree (1972) VHS tape

This is a TV movie about a precocious 10 year old girl Addie (Lisa Lucas) in 1946 Nebraska who lives with her embittered widower father (Jason Robards) and her understanding grandmother (Mildred Natwick). Her father refuses to have a Christmas tree in the house but this year Addie desperately wants one.

I just rewatched this for the upteenth time, one of my favorite Christmas movies. I had also seen it when first broadcast in 1972 and have loved it ever since. It was directed by Paul Bogart who directed sitcoms like All In The Family. This  was shot on videotape so it gives it an intimate feel, more like a play than a movie. The acting is superb, Robards gives one of his best performances as the father, he is stern and stoic but you can still feel he is also hurting inside. Natwick is subtle and touching as the grandma. The real find is Lucas who very funny and spunky as Addie. She did some more acting but did not have a long career, she retired from acting and I read did other jobs such as a chef and news reporter. There were a few more TV movies with these characters which were pretty good too but did not have same impact as this Christmas one.

I hope others love this too.
