Boy, all this drama! It diverts the discussion + obfuscates the entire point. Out the window goes intelligent discourse. Don't you have anything else to do during the day?
Do you define intelligent discourse as only that which agrees with you? Don't you have anything else to do yourself?

What does a John Lennon and Yoko Ono interview have to do with classic movies?
A lot of us like to watch the evening news, so should TCM show it? What about Monday Night Football? Barney? Amateur Videos? American Idle?
TCM should stick to showing the old classics. Those that want to watch old television shows can tune into Nick at Night or TVLand or whatever.

Anything that celebrates Classic Movies belongs on TCM as long as it's uncut and commercial free.
Yes, we should just keep broadening what belongs on Turner Classic Movies Why show old movies at all? Lets just show old TV shows that celebrate Classic Movies! I guess most of you would rather celebrate the old classics than actually watch them.
I like being in the minority here.

Its about time! Now maybe we can get some Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas shows on here too? When TCM starts showing commercials and old episodes of the Brady Bunch, I am sure all of you sheep will be applauding that also.
TV Talk shows belong on TCM? Where do you draw the line? Or do any of you even have a line?

Yes, and Bogdanovich did the same thing with Paper Moon. I don't think that anyone had done that before him. I can't stand modern country music, but I sure love that old stuff. I remember listening to my dad's old Hank Williams and Johnnie Ray 78's as a kid.

I did an exhaustive search and found that it was none other than Phil Harris's "The Thing". Phil Harris, it is interesting to note, was married to Alice Faye, the movie actress. I ended up having to run the credits at the end of the movie where they just list the performers, but not the song... and then head over to Amazon and start listening to samples. I was very lucky to find it so quickly.
That movie has some really good music on it and its unfortunate that they only chose to include the more popular songs on the soundtrack.

In "The Last Picture Show" during the naked pool party scene, what is the name of the song that was playing on the record player when Cybil Shepherd was stripping on the diving board? That song needs to be had!

Message board shill you mean. TCM could show a solid week of Goldie Hawn movies and these same three or four people will be on here defending it to the last. I wonder if TCM employs these people to keep the complaints down?
My stating that the TCM Programmer does not repesct the older classics does not have merit? Maybe not to you, but that isn't saying much. You clutter up these boards at least as much with your sycophantic ravings as much as I am guilty of the reverse. You think the TCM programmer's job is difficult? The TCM programmer should try to sit through "He Laughs Last", "Operation Bikini", "The Karate Kid" and "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids". Now that is hard!

I just checked out my recording of "The Clairvoyant" and sure enough, the movie starts about 12 minutes late. I allowed for 10 extra minutes at the end, as the movie started so late, I still missed the last couple of minutes. I checked the schedule and unlike "Benji", "Good Times", "Operation Bikini", "He Laughed Last" etc., this movie will not be shown again in the near future on TCM. Thanks!
I think this says a great deal about your beloved TCM Programmer's level of respect towards the old classics. They are frequently shown once and in the wee hours where the only way we can see them is to record them, and then they screw up the timing so we can't even do that. The modern garbage movies that TCM Programmer so loves (many of them shown in Pan & Scan) are nearly always shown during the prime time hours and usually multiple times, month after month after month.

How about Cornel Wilde's younger brother? I have the DVD and the audio commentary is by that guy (Darryl Hickman). He had nothing good to say about John M. Stahl, Cornel Wilde, Jeanne Crain and he absolutely hated Gene Tierney. The whole time he was pitching his book on method acting. It was the strangest audio commentary that I have ever heard.

So the fact that TCM shows these movies in pan & scan is perfectly acceptable to all of you? Brief Encounter is a fine movie but is a recent repeat. I could put together a week of programming but it would look very similar to those that have already been posted. And each and every one of them is far superior to what TCM programmer does on a monthly basis. If you think Benji should be given a primetime showing every month, then why didn't you schedule it?

TCM programmer has been able to secure for us lucky viewers, the pan & scan version of Benji (which is a Columbia Picture I believe).

Who else but you would schedule "Benji" in pan&scan for 3 or 4 months in a row? And every one of those showings in primetime!!! Way to go!

You chocolate ice cream eating, film snob! I suppose that the gut wrenching, heart-rending death of the beloved Marky-Mark in "The Perfect Storm" failed to move you as well?
My vote goes to "Plaza Suite". When that one ended, there were tears big as horse turds rolling down my face. Tears of joy.

Hopefully, we will be all done with "Plaza Suite" after next month. I am sure that it will not be missed. These movies like "Plaza Suite", "Benji", "Karate Kid", "Good Times", "Lovers and Other Strangers", "Airport" etc., are not being aired by request I am sure. So why are they on multiple times???
I can only guess that these are personal favorites of the TCM programmer? The TCM programmer should have a look at the schedules made by the members of this board and maybe learn something. He should note, that none of the aforementioned movies are on anyone's schedule. Also, he should note that nobody has decided to repeat the same movie twice in a week like the TCM Programmer frequently does. The clever "themes" such as "Suspended Animation" should not be a justification to show lousy movies.

After reading all of the posted programming schedules, I would have to say that I think EACH and EVERY one of them is head and shoulders above what we have been getting from the pros at TCM on the average.
