  1. I am hoping someone here may have recorded Shirley Temple's KATHLEEN off TCM when it was shown during the past 6 years on her birthday on DVD-R?

if you do have this, could you please make me a DVD-R copy of it? I am a huge fan of Shirley's and this movie is the only one I need to complete my collection of her child movies.

If you can make me a DVD-R of KATHLEEN, please contact me at ADORESHIRLEY@YAHOO.COM

Let me know what you would charge me for this. if you want to trade for it,I have many goodies which consist of newsreels and I also have the rare MISS ANNIE ROONEY which is the colorized version but looks very good.

I am begging you, please help me out so I can finally have KATHLEEN to complete my collection of Shirley's child films.

Many thanks in advance and, god bless you,

    Mike

  2. Yes, Shirley did her movies at Fox . TCM each year on April 23rd was always showing THE LITTLE PRINCESS as this is a public domain title and then they would show KATHLEEN which is an MGM film and then they would show her teenage films.

I was really anxious for the April listings to come as I was so much wanting TCM to once again show KATHLEEN and so, I just do not understand why they are not and are ignoring Shirley's birthday, and, since she will turn 80, I had thought TCM would have shown the movies they could of hers. Maybe tcmprogrammer can let us know why they did not schedule some movies of Shirley's that they could have, especially KATHLEEN, on April 23.

  3. Gee, I was looking forward to TCM honoring Shirley Temple on her birthday on April 23rd But this year they are not at all :(

You would think that since this year Shirley turns 80, that TCM would go all out and honor her but, this is the first time that TCM does not show any of her movies they always had done in all the past April 23rds. I was so hoping for them to air as they always had done on April 23rd, KATHLEEN.

Maybe, just maybe TCM forgot about her birthday and that when April 23 comes around, they will air a few of her movies. I can hope, right?

  6. Mandee,

The movie is SPLIT INFINITY and is from 1992. it is a girl, not a boy ,who is the main part of this story and, she is up in the hayloft when she falls and is then back in time and she tries to save her grandfather's farm. She turns the farm into a Fair to raise money. Here is some of what the movie is about:

A young girl redefines her notion of success in the time-travel family drama SPLIT INFINITY. Obsessed with fashion and wealth, materialistic teenager A.J. Knowlton (Melora Slover) resents her middle-class family and blames their lowly financial status on her grandfather's loss of the family farm during the Great Depression. One night, after a fall, A.J. finds herself magically transported back in time to the year 1929, where she meets her then-young grandfather Frank (Trevor Black) and discovers a family secret that changes her values forever.

This movie is on DVD, and I also own it. Very good movie. :)

  7. BD53,

the movie is titled HAND IN HAND from 1960 . Here is what it is about:

Director Philip Leacock, praised for his handling of child actors, does another excellent job with the two young stars in this story about religious tolerance ? and intolerance. Loretta Parry is Rachel, a seven-year-old Jewish girl whose best friend and playmate Michael (Philip Needs) is exactly the same age. Michael has been raised in an Irish Catholic family, but neither child thinks very much about their religious differences. At least, not until certain biases begin to make their presence known. But Rachel and Michael's friendship is so strong that even when they visit each other's place of worship and are wholly intimidated by the strangeness of it all, they still remain best buddies. Interwoven with threads of wisdom that might be a little forced at times, this family-oriented drama is also enlivened by comic moments and good acting and directing that keep the story from slipping into saccharine clich?s.

I am happy to have helped you out :)

  8. Theres a couple more movie books I forgot to mention in my list and they too were published by Crown and they are:

    THE DISNEY STUDIO STORY

    THE HOLLYWOOD MUSICAL

Both of these books are HUGE, like the others and, the Hollywood Musical book does the same deal as the other studio books where it goes year by year, lists each film and has a scene still from it, what the movie is about, the cast, but this one lists of course, all of the songs that are in each of the movies.

A very wonderful book and this too has all glossy pages.

  9. For those of us who love the wonderful movies of the golden years of Hollywood, there were some great books that were published by Crown Publishers from 1979 thru to about 1986. These were HUGE hardcover books that were on a different movie studio and their titles were:

    THE WARNER BROS. STORY

    THE RKO STORY

    THE MGM STORY

    THE UNITED ARTISTS STORY

    THE UNIVERSAL STORY

    THE COLUMBIA STORY

    THE PARAMOUNT STORY

there was alslo another book very much like these from Citidel Press called

THE FILMS OF 20TH CENTURY FOX

in these books, they would have a very nice detailed story on how each studio came into being and there is so much information .

Then, these books would go year by year in listing each movie along with a photo from each movie and description of what the movie is about, who stars in them and who directed. Very well done!

These books are treasures and, I will bet that many of you reading this also have these books or, know of them.

The pages for the Crown Publishers books are all glossy and, these books were well made. nice and large hardcovers with dustjackets.

These books start with the listings of movies from the beginning of when the studios started making movies all the way up till the time the book was published. They are all very detailed!!

These books are great also for using on movies that TCM shows, so you can have a better idea what the movie is about and get to see a scene still from the movie as well.

I just wanted to make you aware of these books, just in case you did not know about them. I got all these books at the time they were first were published .

Now and then, ebay has these books,in case any of you are interested in these wonderful books.

  10. lzcutter ,

Thanks so much for all your time in posting all you did. What a downer it is to know they do not own the films anymore :(

We will just have to try as best we can to enjoy the rare classics they do show and, just put up with the many ,many movies shown so much over and over.

  11. filmlover ,what I mean is, for movies only, 99.9% of the movies shown are the same ones that TCM has shown "a billion times " over!! Yes I know there are SOME new classic films shown, but don't you notice that month after month after month they keep showing all the other movies so very much? it gets sickning because after all don't we all pay a lot of money a month to be able to watch TCM???

So,after all, I am sure and I KNOW I am not alone in feeling this way!!

back in the day, TCM used to show so many movies they DO OWN and have not shown in years!! All they do is show the same movies and its so boring!

We all hope that, when TCM puts up the new month's listings that finally there will be tons of movies shown that they have not shown in a moondog's age BUT, its always the same movies. What needs to be done is have a TCM 2 and TCM 3 because then, there would be so much MORE to be shown that never gets shown of the classic goodies!! And there would be such variety for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Its just all the same ol' same ol'. Month after month, 99.9% of the time its just the same movies shown over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!!!!

It just makes no sense what with TCM owning all the RKO and the early Warner Brothers and the MGMs that they won't show all the tons of other movies they own.

I remember the early years of TCM when they would show so much of those movies. But for some reason, all they do is show the same movies month after month after month after year after year after year!!

I just get so frustrated that they just keep showing the same movies and, they never show any of the movies I and many others request and, these are movies that TCM does own. Being a classic movie buff I am up on all this stuff and know what TCM owns and does not own. I have requested movies for a number of years now and never do they get shown and ,again, TCM DOES own them.

Anyways, I just needed to vent, as I just am so frustrated that once again, its another month of the same movies shown for the billionth time!!! BORING!!!!!!!

  13. These are real bloopers, because the scenes are from well known Warner Bros. movies and the stars make mistakes in their lines or forget their lines. Many times you hear the director yell "CUT".

What Warners did was to collect all the bloopers for each year and would show them at the year end parties they would have.

I have the complete rare collection of these. I also have a number of 20TH Century Fox bloopers too with some Charlie Chan flubs and others. Am getting all this very rare stuff onto DVD-R to preserve it all! Got tons of it!
