  1. Great thread. WW2 movies are my personal favorites. 1- Without a doubt for star power alone "Longest Day" 2-"Saving Private Ryan" Special effect makes you feel like your there,(no disrespect to those who know the difference) 3-"Sahara"- Bogart is awesome. Jim Belushi did a remake that was good to for those who like this one too. 4-"The Train" This is a great film I can always watch. 5-"Battle of Britain" This has THE best dogfight scene ever filmed. There is no diologue just music and action. 6-"Kelly's Heroes" Is a great and the only War comedy I love. 7-"Battleground"- This shows how rough it was in the snow. 8-The Eagle Has Landed- 9-Memphis Belle- Great Bomber movie 10-Von Ryan's Express- Honorable Mention: Battle of the Bulge Desperate Journey The Great Escape Five Graves of Cairo Father Goose Guns of Navarone Hell is for Heroes 12 O'clock High Dirty Dozen Best Years of Our Lives- Love the airplane junkyard. I'll stop, I could go on forever with these. Thanks to all the veterans out there

  3. Thanks MovieJoe I will take your advice on the tours, thanks for the heads up on them. I am looking forward to them. I really am interested in the hollywood show also. I would love to buy old photos etc. I have gathered some obsure stuff too. I found for example the address of the house where David Nivens wife fell down the stairs to the cellar during a party and was killed. There have been other stars who have owned the same house previous to the accident as well as after. I like this type of stuff for it's obsurity more than the morbid reasons. I read about that in a small article in a movie magazine. Premiere or something similar. "Double indemnity" house interests me allot as I love that movie. One of my great disapointments is that the "Sunset Blvd" house is gone. I would have loved to peaked over the fence at that gorgoues mansion!! Thanks to all that are trying to help me.
  4. Thanks Classic, I hope someone can give a little insight to some helpful movies. Unfortunatly I do know allot of the old Hollywood/Beverly Hills etc is gone but I have done my best to research the historical sites that do still exist. I have used a few helpful books that list allot of them. If it interest anyone, here is a few good ones to check out if you wish to plan a classic hollywood trip. They have lots of hotspots and landmarks listed "Hollywood" by Gil Reavill "L.A. Bizarro" by Lovett and Maranian "The Ultimate Hollywood Tour Book" by William A Gordon "Dishing Hollywood" by Laurie Jacobson I also read lots of movie magazines as well as search websites and always seem to find some address of a forgotten hollywood celebrity and a story to go with it. I don't know if anyone else is interested in these obsure landmarks but I really love searching out these places.I also enjoy photography as a serious hobby and plan to take trips to So-Cal and photograph as many as possible. If there is anyone else who is interested in this type of stuff I would love to correspond and share info. BW
  5. I want to buy classics on DVD and would like to hear from the board which source would be the best to give my money to? I don't mind spending good money for good product and customer service.
  6. I am new to the board and looks like I will be here frequently. I love "Sunset Blvd" and how it shows allot of old Hollywood landmarks. Can anyone tell me of other movies that are good for showing landmarks of the old days? I hope to go to southern California and photograph allot of the older landmarks that aren't the normal tourist destinations. Thanks for the help BW
