I agree ML. It's very nice to see criticism without it turning into a "flame-fest." As someone said earlier, Ben hasn't amassed the amount of wisdom that Osborne has, but that is what research is for. Part of his job is doing research on the films and actors he announces and turning over some of that wisdom to the viewers. With enthusiasm. That's where the need for passion comes in. If you don't really care about classic films, you are going to slide by with as little as possible. Also... yah, he's new at the job, but he's got to realize the competition that is out there (hundreds of actors that would be willing to do the work). I believe that there is probably a better niche out there for Ben than this gig. I could definitely see him doing sports talk more. Or something in that area.

Aaah, the evils of pan and scan strike again!

I do lean a little more towards what Moira was saying about silence. Granted, I love a good musical score and it can lead and drive emotions along with the movie. I just think that these days, most of the modern directors feel that they HAVE to have the score going at all times. It's a bit overkill and often makes the music less effective. Just my 2 cents

I just watched The Bad Seed and was a little miffed with the ending. Although I understood why the director had to end it the way he did. For more recent... I kind of liked the plot twist in The Others.

And on a more humorous note: In Young Frankenstein - Frau Bl?cher (carrying 3 unlit candles): Stay close to the candles. The stairway can be... treacherous.

Moviejoe, I like that site... lots of good movies... my only problem with them is that they had "Barney - Read with me Dance with me" under the "Classics" category. Hehe.

I'm 31. I probably wouldn't have cable if it wasn't for TCM. I'm addicted to it. I've always been fascinated with everything about the past... the clothing, mannerisms, speech, etc.

I was worried about Osborne leaving too. Does anybody know if he's staying around? He does such a great job. He's got a twinkle in his eye and really tells a good story. TCM wouldn't be the same without him. Mankiewicz is ok, but seems a little flat and personality-less (doh, think that's a new word).
