Seriously? After all that has gone on here recently?
No, really, I hated DiCaprio that much in the movie and his presumption to think he could act along with the jackass Cameron to think he could improve on A Night To Remember with that piece of crap.
Good thing you don't read I Hate Falsone, a board wherein people wished things on Jon Seda for what he did to Homicide.
No, sorry, I can't state too many opinions without being tasteless. I applaud your ability to do so.
Rock on.

DiCaprio's Titanic -- soooooo glad he became a Popsicle
Most 'feel good' movies
Most Robin Williams movies
Most Jim Carrey movies
I love this topic.

Bobbert, listen to Things Have Changed by Dylan if you doubt his genius. Walk a mile in his drugged moccasins before you judge.
As to Forever Young, wasn't it Rod Stewart who had the definitive cover on that song?

SusannO, while we're waiting for other folks to weigh in, I have to smile at TCM exposing me to Muse....life is funny, isn't it? I'm playing the song over and over.
I'd have to look back at the song I liked years ago which was apparently 'techno' music...it was used in a car commercial wherein a girl did strange physical movements and was a big hit. I can't remember the name of it.
Before that, I didn't know I liked this type of music.
Yes, I have a point. While we here have been justifiably angry lately, I have to say that we never know what we have within ourselves. Towards that end, I implore GarboManiac to return. I think of him quite often and the fact that he came to this board for companionship and we all turned ugly. Very ugly.
Well, beCAUSE of the fact that we are uncensored (no, we should NOT change that) we all went off on personal tangents. I don't advocate what A&E did nor what Television Without Pity is.
I know I am rambling. But I like that we have returned to being the embodiment of what human beings really are.
Rock on, SusannO. This board is a gift and we should realize it as such.

Funny, if I went to movie theaters, I would go to see these two movies. If I had Netflix, I would get these two movies. If I had premium cable channels, I would watch these two movies.
As it is, since I don't do or have any of the above, la di da.
But they do look interesting, for sure.

Cool....thanks, 2007phd. Can anyone in the know suggest more songs/bands like this one?
tcmprogrammer, anyone, IS that promo downloadable?
Sorry, I really like it.

Anne, do you like Steve Colbert as well as Jon Stewart? I am one of those who gets all my news from the faux news channels. The others are too too for me, if you know what I mean. I get enough news on the internet, I don't need to spend even more time listening to the talking heads.
When Jon Stewart shows a video of some politician being an idiot...wait, that's an oxymoron...and the camera comes back to his deadpan face, I love it!
Do you guys who like chocolate know that Hershey's now makes a truffle kiss??? It's apparently a new product that I just found out about this week, so I haven't gotten to the supermarket yet.

P.S. Hmmmm, I thought you meant Oreo I never heard of an Aero! Seems they don't have them in the States.

Any nine Charlie Chaplin movies.
The Sound Of Music.

Wonderful memories, Larry.
Christopher sounds like someone I would have liked to know.

Thank you for sharing all that very personal information, inglis.
It is brave when someone shares of themselves on boards such as these.

Don't twist my words, Bbunny1940, you know exactly what I mean.

The little guys who work there might actually get paid more money with more viewers tuning in.
You've hit the nail on the head. It is, after all, all about money.
Who? Who is lying?
Consider yourself lucky...you must not work for corporate America.
didn't have quite so much cynicism, not to mention fear, ya know?
Couldn't there be a little more faith in tcmprogrammer and his/her colleagues?
Cynicism? Exactly, these are most assuredly NOT the good ole' days.
Fear? Not me, I don't care, whomever likes the station the way it is now is welcome to it.
Faith? Not me. Unless tcmprogrammer owns the station, he/she does what he/she is told to do and say. Have faith in the corporation behind TCM??????
Not on your life.
-
Now Dolores, let's not discriminate - - - it's men and women, who aren't scum.
You're right, Larry, of course!
Have a wonderful trip.

Thanks, tcmprogrammer. I imagine TCM, like IBM, outsources all sorts of things these days, including the production of videos.
We all will just have to get used to the fact that everything is going global and there is no more room for an aw shucks little Atlanta station that played the classics.
The niche station, witness A&E, is dead.
I agree, I liked the video too.
It's not that I don't believe you, tcmprogrammer, I don't trust your bosses in suits. They lie through their bonded teeth.
-
Absolutely, KathleenT. I said that early on. I still like some things on MTV and outrageous videos and South Park, so in and of itself, I found the video cool and well produced. I'd like to see tcmprogrammer's take on it and the backstory on its production.
However, and I will say this until (not if, when) TCM turns into AMC....this promo doesn't BELONG on TCM.
And now those will come on who will say I am all wet and how can I NOT think that Dick Cavetta and Cher and Anime are 'classic', yada, yada, and I will say back you are welcome to them, I have just about all the tapes I have taped that I can possibly need or want, with the exception of all of Warren Williams' movies.
No matter, hopefully the rudeness will end here but the strong opinions won't.

Good idea, SusannO.
People who are what they seem; manners; honesty; animals - dogs especially, bless their little sycophant hearts; food; ice cream and more ice cream; men who aren't scum; gardening; continuing education; breathing; the four seasons; classic rock and roll; mystery novels with a female PI protagonist; promises kept -- especially re corporations who change the rules midway in one's career; classic movies in black and white from the years 1930 to 1951 not one year more not one year less; British television mysteries that have gone into the ether from the 1980s which I will never see again unless I get NetFlix; internet message boards that are uncensored and the good people that populate them hell I'll even accept the nutjobs until they get out of hand; did I say ice cream?; and oh, almost forgot, driving reallllly fast.
These are a few of my Favorite Things!

March's Divorce Remorse promo with "I Will Survive" and the December 2005, "Make it Home" promo ring a bell
Are these available here? I looked under 'Videos' and don't see them, or, I could not be searching correctly.
Thanks.

KathleenT, I can appreciate your sharing such a personal hurt here, but I have no decent advice. My advice would only be from my perspective and cannot take into account your personal situation.
However, it makes me sad that a human being can do this to another human being, much less a husband to wife. It is inexcusable and indefensible (my personal opinion as a female).

fasteddie, thank you for the advice on the chicken pox vaccine. I had heard of it, but as someone wrote, I don't trust it. My brother got the CP as an adult and fortunately there was medicine to help him through it.
As to the uproar here, Snarfie is most assuredly not our leader, he was instrumental in a nasty turn of events with a most genteel board member, but turned ingenous in the fight -- is there anything worse?
If I recall, didn't you join this board armed for bear, so to speak? I thought that curious at the time, but as you can see, your worst fears were realized.
As I've also observed, this board has taken a curious turn for the combative. I'm not one to walk away from a verbal sparring, but tempers and feelings do seem to be on edge lately.
I don't have any sane advice, since I don't like rude people, so my opinion would be to just post as you feel. By the way, you haven't seen shabby until you've had your spelling corrected by the insufferable board grammarian. It's just the nature of the Internet, the condition of anonymity allows for rude behavior that hopefully wouldn't be utilized in a face to face situation.
Then again, I could be wrong and the world really has gone to hell.

By all means, MovieGal.
Listen to the name calling SamTherapy.

mrsl, I have to offer up a mea culpa. I used the term 'old ****' about myself, sarcastically, as I am more than a little weary of the assault by the media to polarize those over...well, over what today? 25?
I admit it, I miss the 'good ole days'. I never dreamed I'd be associating the 'good ole days' with a time that had a dearth of technological advances, but did have manners.
I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s, as I've said, and those days had their share of horrors, to be sure. I was party to the generation that said 'don't trust anyone over 30', and now that is coming back to bite me, because what goes around does indeed come around.
I resent the media's disregard for anyone over 50, even though this strata of society may have the disposable income that might be attractive to them. The media is more interested in the pocketbook of the 'tween and the teen and the young adult who doesn't care if Beyonce is selling Prada tampons or Paris Hilton is wearing Gucci underwear, they gotta have it.
I don't care about Rob Zombie, hell I don't care about 85% of what is on television or in the movies. When TCM is showing a day of shorts as they are on the 15th, well, that's great and I have to figure out how to tape around the clock. When they show Night of the Living Dead, I will give my VCR a break.
This place has gotten ugly lately, but again, I applaud TCM for allowing us to speak on and on without interfering. Trust me, that is a rarity on the Internet message boards.
I'm sorry I threw out the terms 'old ****' and 'good ole days'. Some of the people on these boards, even newcomers, seem bent on divisiveness and I don't have the class to leave, as GM did.
I meant no disrepect to true old ****, Anne, I meant it with all fondness and camaraderie.

mrsl, you are quite correct. Posts are getting out of whack here lately, for sure, so I'm not sure if I misunderstood you or someone else.
No doubt, parents are no longer setting limits on their kids, they want to be their kids's FRIENDS. Why? Because THEY are refusing to grow up.
I am convinced that the post War generation THOUGHT they were doing well by us, but they created a spoiled...yes, even we were spoiled...generation that, for the most part, created a monster generation of self indulgent, spoiled brats who are in turn raising a 'time out sweetie' crop of even more horrific babies.
There are the exceptions, grandparents and parents who have 20 year old kids with manners, but they are the exception as far as I can see, judging by the rudeness in supermarkets and restaurants and stores and on the highways.
But let's face it, the 1940s are dead, and heaven help us all in the next 30 years.
Fortunately, someone will be putting a pillow over my face in the nursing home, since I imagine I will be ranting and raving there just as much (if not more) as I am now.

mrsl, IF you are not easily offended, on the topic of 'Mommy Lets Us', take a look at the French advert for Hansaplast Condoms (as I said, open mind required), I think you will find it hilarious:
Sound may be very loud on opening the site.
dolores
P.S. Good for you in setting limits, so few parents do so today.
-
Bbunnny1940, as I've noted, those with feet firmly entrenched in 1935 will argue with those happily ensconced in 1980 and never the twain shall meet.
Nor should it. My parents were aghast at my Beatle lurve (then again, I chose Paul over John in the beginning, what WAS I thinking?) and I hate, despise rap. And so it goes.
So I can understand both sides of the argument, since I have one foot planted in each century, well almost. I am a child of the 1950s and 1960s and have a list of dislikes about the current media as long as your arm.
However, I am open to most new things. This video suprised me. However, as I've noted, it does NOT BELONG on TCM, a point which the 1980s crowd will debate. They too won't mind commercials when they finally come to TCM, either.
The old **** here will mind commercials and will turn away, as we have done to AMC.
If viewers 'reject' the Marx Brothers based on what is written about them or how they are presented, then those who are rejecting them don't have the brains God gave a gnat. Accepting new things is all about having an open mind. You are castigating the old people here for doing just what you are saying the 'younger audiences' would do, or don't you see the irony?
The Simpsons are already the good old days, or haven't you seen Anime?
Since Anne was talking to someone else, I'm not sure anymore who is someone's Segal, a hack if ever there was one, so what is that all about??
