  1. Ah! That explains it, movieman1957. Yes, I can see it now, the big guys and little Gobel. I can just picture Martin dumpting his ashes.

Gobel one-upped him though, with that remark. Here it is, decades later, and I can still see and hear him delivering that line. No wonder Carson almost fell off his chair.

But am I correct, in remembering Douglas on in the afternoon, a la Oprah? Or is my memory failing?

  2. Why? Because he is an odious troll.

path40a, inferior? Who in the holy hell feels inferior? This jackass thinks he is lording it over us with his 'knowlege'. Big deal. You know as much about movies and so do many others here. How about Fred? Who knows more than Fred? How about Larry? Who knows more than Larry?

Nope. I repeat, his latest insult was the last straw.

Irony? Irony be damned. This thread was begun with the intent of turning the other cheek to this miserable human being. Bull.

Have you seen him come here to explain himself and apologize? Thought not.

    My challenge still stands.

Mr. Sage, you do have cojones right? You are a male, right? A woman wouldn't be posting in the style you choose. So do come here and explain yourself and be prepared to apologize to a great many wonderful people.

  3. Nope. Won't wash with me. I'm not religious, I'm not understanding, and I have been on many work boards where trolls enjoy the trouble they start, in addition to imparting information.

Nope, there is NO excuse for what Mr. Sage posts when he corrects people. Whoopie, he is knowledgable about movies. So? So are many others here, and they impart their information without being pompous little prigs.

Nope. I won't back down, not at all. Trolls are not decent human beings. They are the type of person one meets in real life that one steers clear of. Unfortunately, with the advent of the internet and its anonymity, these despicable human beings think they can come to decent boards and insult feeling, valid posters. Just witness the people here who THANKED this slimy individual for his grammatical corrections.

Nope. I challenge him to reappear and explain himself. By the way, wouldn't any of YOU all have come on by now to explain yourself and......here's the kicker.........APOLOGIZED for the ugliness you caused? Damned right you would have. Even I, a person more blunt and caustic than most here prefer, would have done so. The same situations occur, again, at other boards on which I post and trolls NEVER, EVER apologize.

Nope. Again, I value this board, because it is self-censored. At any other board, the little cretin Sage would have been banned by now, because he is a useless obnoxious little snot. Trust me, he wanks off in his room over all this mayhem.

Come on, Cine, mano a mano, you and me. All of the other folks here are more decent than I. Take me on, you little creep. I dare you. You've gone too far this time, you piece of filth.

  4. I grew up with all the talk shows too, GM, and remember the Mike Douglas show only in passing. He was on in the afternoon, correct?

I do remember thinking John Lennon was waaaay too cool to be on a talk show, and yes, I liked Totie Fields a lot. I remember thinking at the time how unusual it was for a woman who wasn't classically pretty to be as funny as she was. I admired her for that, it was a shame she left so young.

But most of all, for some reason, I remember George Gobel's remark on the Tonight show which had everyone in hysterics. I believe I've already shared, but he was there with two or three other handsome (in their day) men and he said to no one in particular: did you ever feel like the world was a tuxedo and you were a pair of brown shoes? Carson almost fell out of his chair with laughter.

I loved the old time comedians who were either trained in or influenced by vaudeville.

  5. Thanks, GM. As an English major and a near-English teacher, believe me it wasn't easy to write. :)

TMN, don't worry, Mr. Sage has been constantly nasty to people on this board and ignored every insult I hurled his way in the interim, which I found especially necessary to write after people accepted the little thing's corrections with grace and humor. He is odious. I'm sorry he insulted your heritage, but he is after all a tiny minded little troll, and no insult is too low for him. Good for you that you said all you wanted to say. I am no believer in being nice to cretins.

Meanwhile, he is still absent, proving he is a troll just like those found on many other sites I've seen in the years I've been on the internet. He can't, after all, defend the indefensible. As has been noted, he incites the boards, then sits back in his little room like the **** he is and laughs at the mayhem he creates.

I like to call his and the style of other trolls: Eats Shoots and Leaves, from the book by the same name.

  6. Your right, Rockey Rode.

I for won apolegise to CinemaVeritaeSaige too. He may very wel have bean drunke, so his typogrephicle, er, typergrapicul, um, typo could indede have bean the resulte of demon rum.

So, yes, let me bee the furst to offer up my apoligee to CinamaSaege, becawse he is never nothing but nice on these boreds. He never correcks anywon's gramer or anithing like that, now duz he? He's nice to evereewon, isnt he?

So come on RockeeRod, lets all try to get along, shall we?

    Ok? Ok.

    :):):)

Come back, tiny little Cine, come back, don't go away mad, little buddy.

  7. Toushay, Rocky. You're obcervayshun about the grate Cinema Saige was ryte on the marke.

Yule no doubt here back, but in the weeee hours of the night, since his insults don't stand up to rebuttal.

Isn't that write, oh great one?

    Perople who need perople, ryte?

  8. a nasty comment like Mr. CineSage Jr.

I find it interesting how the little Mr. Cine never comes back to defend his obnoxious behavior. He simply posts more pomposity and insults and then crawls back under his rock.

    Coward.

  9. I love the Kinsey Millhone character. I can't think off the top of my head who would be good to play her. Any ideas?

Tom Cruise in a dress! :)

Hmmm, good question. I think I'd like to see Jamie Lee Curtis, but I would imagine Ashley Judd would be more to Hollywood's taste.

She couldn't be too pretty (although Judd is gorgeous), but would have to be sexy and tough-ish.

  10. Anne, I thought you meant the Cornwell books, but don't see Ireland in PC's background. Her bio on Wikipedia is an eyeopener, even though I'm not thrilled with her books or her character Scarpetta.

bradtexasranger, I've enjoyed the Grafton Alphabet books too. I was discussing recently with someone about her books not being made into movies. I find this curious. I put it down to the main character being a female sleuth, but the Pronzini books haven't been made into movies either.

Eastwood has made a few good mysteries, I'm surprised he hasn't picked up on the Grafton books...Marcia Mueller, Janet Evanovich (a teevee movie was made on one of her books), Linda Barnes, and Karen Kijewski are some others you might like.

  11. Wow, cinemabuff64, I'm sorry I didn't see this message. This place gets so busy sometimes that messages and threads fall to the bottom. My fault, I should read more of the threads.

At any rate, yes, I have my very first teevee and my very first VCR and except for the remote on the VCR, both still work. The year on both......mmmppphhh (cough-1977-cough). Don't tell anyone! :) I also have a high quality (or it was at the time) NEC VCR.

I capitulated on a CD player/radio and am lucky if I used it a dozen times. What I do like is the ability of the computer to play music and use it almost exclusively, since I work so many hours at the computer.

So it will be awhile before I can finally exhale and watch the movies I, like you, have taped. I have about 400 tapes with approx. 3 movies to a tape...so, doing the math, that will take a LOT of time and DVDs.

What does intrigue me is Netflix, for which, obviously, one needs a DVD player. I should just get a cheap player so I can subscribe for the cheapo one movie a week. That, perhaps, I can find the time to watch!

  12. You mean Warren William, cinemabuff64?

    On a scale of 1-10, I'd give him a 26.......... :)

But seriously, he's a 'type' that I like.... tall, angular, thin, hawkish nose, deep voice, along the lines of Clint Eastwood. The type that looks better at 71 than he does at 31. Not to everyone's taste at all.

Dang. Is it hot in here again?

    :)

  13. Hah! It may have been the same corporate idiots who got rid of Kool 96.7 here in CT and lower Westchester, sweetbabykmd.

Came in during the wee hours of the early morning and shut down the radio station, lock stock and barrel. As had been done to Cousin Brucie (do you all know Cousin Brucie?) and his oldies station.

I called the VP of the company who shut down Kool 96.7 and actually talked to her. When she started giving me corporate doublespeak that made my ears bleed, I knew all was lost and gave up.

What a shame it is that this happens, isn't it? Kool 96.7 was the last station in this area to play oldies from my era. I have to either get Sirius or X Men or whatever it is, or an IPOD.

I'm not ready for either, so for now I'll just change the channel on the TWO remaining Classic Rock stations. Their days are probably numbered too.

    I hate progress.

  14. Thanks, cinemabuff64! :)

Talk about holy hot male flesh, Batman, I was passing by TCM and caught Robert Stack giving Leon Ames (I think) 'what for'. Now there was a cutie patootey in his younger days.

Phew. Is it hot in here?

  15. Hmmmm, jdb1, wouldn't Davis and Brent have been the opposite characters though? As written, wasn't the man a misogynistic prig and Booth a doormat who turned to a runaway dog for comfort after losing her baby?

If it isn't obvious, I didn't see it and probably couldn't even now watch it. Cuts too close to the bone, thanks. EsPECially with the dog that is gone.

However, if the plot is as I've described, then Davis it seems to me would fit the Lancaster role and Brent the Booth one.

  16. Warren William.

    Okay, I'm kidding.

I'd pick Gretchen Corbett, and Warren William can play every man I've ever known, so I can huddle with him and give him stage directions. And I'd have to visit him in his trailer for after hours consultations, and.....

if the trailer is a-rockin', don't come a-knockin'.

Ohhhh.....how'd I get on that tangent???

    :)

  17. And don't forget 'solutioning a problem'. How many meetings have you been at, traceyk65, where the execs say they're going to: 'solution a problem'. Makes me want to jump out of my chair and hand them their hearts...but I can't, more's the pity. X-(

As to remakes, and this may already have been talked about, the non-actor Tom Cruise is involved in a remake of I Married A Witch. Ugh. :(
